Hard to say what's 'copied' though. Many things in SoT were taken from real sailing: wind direction; control of the sails; cannonball trajectory; hell even bailing water with buckets was something that sailors used to do.

Looks quite goofy though, definitely not tempting me at least.

It has only attracted players to the game, that want different gameplay and combatmechanics that imho are not good to have for the main, the adventure game.

I promise you Arena did not attract a single person who wasn't already playing SoT. It was implemented as an answer to the whiners who kept getting owned in PvP (such as yourself, as per my personal observation). But it still does not fulfill its purpose completely - at least in EU there's shortage on players in Arena.

Additionally, Arena feels out of spot. Without MMR and rating systems it's kind of 'just there' without any actual purpose. Besides, people in SoT are hungry for piracy, not fair PvP.

I've seen you in multiple threads already, you always do one of two things. You either complain on DGE, or you complain about people who try their hardest to win when playing.

Furthermore you refuse to admit you're getting owned by pure skill, as that's what DGE actually is, despite it being an unintended mechanic or not.

I bet you haven't even faced a single DGE user in the past 10 hours of your playtime (a real one with animation cancel, not just a double gun wielder). There just aren't so many people using it due to the amount of effort and time required to learn to execute it, let alone practice it fulltime.

Yeah, I guess I just said it huh? But please allow me to elaborate. I'm talking pure mechanics. So to put it in other words:

1. Morally - it's wrong. I am also against exploiting.
2. Mechanically - it's a skillplay. And I guarantee you, because I've done DGE successfully on practice, without real opponent. But when I tried it in real fight I got owned in 9/10. It's quite hard to nail.

Exceptions can occur if it improves gameplay, such as with the sword dash across the water, but when something like the DGE has an overall negative or detrimental effect on the game, then it's patched out as much as possible.

I love reading your comments and chatting with you brother, but I'm afraid you're not right. Not this time.

I'm not talking about intended mechanics, exceptions to gameplay, exploits, and so on. I'm talking about pure skill here. The reflex, the mobility. You are able to aim better and have quicker reactions than me? It means you're more skilled than I am. That's what I'm talking about.

In this same regard DGE is pure display of skill, as it requires a lot of precision, combined with a complex combination to properly execute. And when you add the pressure of PvP combat, it makes a hell of a hard-to-pull-off cocktail.

@greengrimz Maybe, but it will only get you so far. Proper knowledge and execution of other mechanics and strategies can still be used to defeat the DGE. Remember skill is an umbrella term - it covers a lot.

For example: if I'm running sword, and you have a gun, I should know not to stand in front of you, so in the moment you try to shoot me, I'll dodge to the side and a bit forward putting me closer to you; in that moment, you fire, sprint forward and fire again. But because I dodged, you missed your 1st shot, and because you were too focused on attempting the DGE, it works against you, and you also miss your 2nd shot. Even your forward movement exposes your back to me, even though you wouldn't be able to block anyways. That's when I cut you down.

You're totally right, and that's exactly why I say proper DGE is pure skill. Because the player scores a kill, despite your maximum efforts (counter-movement against guns).

It's also why I've said numerous times to @Bugaboo-Bill that DGE shouldn't be something to worry him, as it's often more hurtful to the user than it's gaining for him - it's actually THAT hard to be successful with it.
