Thought's on the current streamer discorse

  • I'm not making this post to flame or hate or anything, I just genuinely want some honest thoughts and opinions.

It's come to attention recently that one of the top streamers for SOT is a level off legendary, but the issue is they've cheated their way there. From what I've seen (since they're streaming actually cheating) is they're using their fanbase to do all the work, waiting till they have chests and hopping into their game to stand about while they cash it in, get the rep and leave to another crew and repeate.

Honestly if this is put into a positive light and their applauded for this as being "first to legend" I think this will be extremely unfair to everyone who's putting in hours and hours into the game and working through the rep properly. The issue is, they're such a big streamer it's hard to voice any opinion without a wave of hate from their fans :/

I know people have been server hopping for skull forts, but at least with that you still have to actually do some work beating the fort, fighting off players, cashing in, you know, actually playing the game but this seems really really unfair and just...not worthy of being put up there as "the first one"

What's everyone's opinions? This is coming from someone who's neither a fan or a "hater" I've never watched one of their streams apart from today, but doing this and putting it under the blanket of "community effort" is just wrong in my opinion.

  • @pokepaws hmmm... well, some people love to have "slaves". Couple that with some people loving to "serve others" and... you'll understand some of the hierarchical systems in place since cavemen :)

There's "wins" without the glory. Some don't care how they reached "the top" as long as they reached it.
(and streamers/youtubers, it's basically mostly or all about the views, no matter what)

So... maybe this will end up as an example of "FIRST!!!" without any glory other than being able to "move the masses" to get the job done, which in itself, is also a skill to respect, uh... I guess, though not exactly the spirit of SoT... oh wait, IT IS the spirit of SoT! He's just validating the #BeMorePirate the best way he can.

eh, that's what you get with a game for pirates ;P

  • @pokepaws Streamers dont really care about the game. they just want the content for their channel and views.

  • @pokepaws My opinion is I don't care. Who gives a rat t**d if someone is the first to legendary. Congrats dude, you are a video game pirate legend. I am still going to try and sink your butt when I see you.

  • I'd rather actually see someone get to pirate legend to see if there is actually any "tangible" content that some people are promising is there.

  • I couldn’t care less. If he’s first, that means that we finally get to see what this seemingly infinite grind will accomplish. Most likely, as most of the “hype” Rare has spread during the beta and alpha, it will be lackluster and unfinished.

  • well in case you did not noticed by now, that's how company's work, one or few bosses sitting in a "too" big office and watching how other do all the hard work and then they get the rewards and fame. :D

  • What about legendary pirate captain will that then require level 100-100-100 or even get all the commendations?

  • Let him get his legendary status. Just don't immortalized him as the game's first.
Or reset his progress under Article 7.

Thats not cheating. Thats a community working together to get a person to the required state faster than if everyone worked alone.

    MFW Youre calling TEAMWORK cheating.

  • fairly sure this is how cults start haha...someone with a superiority complex convinces gullible folks to bring them stuff so they can reap the benefits themselves...with the promise of some form of reciprocal 'love'

Instead of promises of eternal life blah blah blah it is the much more appealing 'shout out' from a random person on the internet! :O :O wooooooooooooow!

just more proof that 'big streamers' couldn't give the furry crack of a rats behind about the games they play, just as long as they get enough people to watch to top up their accounts.

    I will never understand.

  • @sausijxzal teamwork would be beneficial to all, not someone bouncing from group to group.

It benefits one far more than the rest

It benefits everyone. Said streamer is going to learn of the location of the hideaway, and if the content is in or not.

Information will disseminate naturally and may even spur more people to group together and hit the mark.

And he will be able to share his quests and the hideout to other players.

  • @JetOrchidee97 @SausijXzal they are not doing it as a humanitarian action, they are doing it for themselves. THEY get the 'kudos', attention/extra viewers/cash

They are not a philanthropist. The only reason they would share anything is for their own ends and to satisfy their need for validation and attention.

Like I said, I will never understand...but then I have never been convinced to live in a comune either...

  • If its not a hack or exploit then its not cheating you may not like how they are doing it but if they game allows it then its not cheating its just bad form.....If you complain about this than complain about people abusing the mermaids! those things should only spawn when a ship goes down... force people to be left behind or picked up......

    Still not cheating.

  • Can’t wait to see what changes after the ridiculous grind to pirate legend.

  • @pokepaws This should be a bannable offense.

  • @pokepaws While distasteful, it is not against any rules and therefore not cheating.

  • @triheadedmonkey "just more proof that 'big streamers' couldn't give the furry crack of a rats behind about the games they play, just as long as they get enough people to watch to top up their accounts."

There are many big streamers who do care, and are playing straight up. 12-16 hr days grinding with their own crew.

  • Will be nice to see if pirate legend just means you get a basement and more fetch quests or if there is more to it.

  • @pokepaws I think it's perfect and is not cheating. He gamed the terrible system Rare designed and I am happy for him.

  • Thank's everyone for the replies so far, it's just nice to get a judge on what everyone thinks!

  • @pokepaws which streamer is it?

  • Been watching it today whilst working.
A: It's not cheating - he isn't breaking the game mechanics or using any kind of exploit.
    B. He has said multiple times today that the community - his fans and followers were the ones that suggested they help boost him.
    C. He doesn't just stand there - he is getting stuck into quests and forts and is actively participating in all aspects of the game - he isn't that bad either!

yeah, I'd like to add the Gamertag to my block list :)

  • I personally don't care.

I care about the first pirate legend that also lives up to the title, and makes guys like this streamer s**t their pants when they sail by.

That will be the true first pirate legend.

  • @triheadedmonkey @Xx7heFiremanxX I don't want to callout names as I don't wanna cause trouble, honestly just wanting the general community opinion atm!

If C=true Then I don't see any issues with this way of playing.
Ok, it might be a bit more organized, landing yourself in crews already with loot which could happen to randoms anyway, but if he plays as any player would and not standing there, just waiting for the deliveries and rewards, I guess it's morally ok'ish since game-mechanic-wise it's perfectly fine, IMHO.

  • I'm more looking forward to the first Pirate Legends within our community.
People that actually play the game for the sake of playing the game and their love for it.
Streamers like that will come and go.
He may be a Legend in Title, but he will be forgotten quicker than you think.

  • I just wanna watch and see what happens when he gets the title.

  • @sshteeve he doesn't know the basic things mate....
Jumping on multiple sessions just for the loot is not ok.
Where is the fairplay in being boosted like this?

  • I've been watching for a few hours now and I think people are making a big deal out of nothing. He's been running with a regular crew and contributing to the journey. There's maybe 2/3 other crews who invite him to cash in with them when there's downtime on his end and a stockpile on theirs. Not like he is just going from crew to crew endlessly cashing in. If you look at his channel you can also see he has around 100 hours of gameplay since the game launched.

Nothing too egregious or against the spirit of what Rare has intended imo. Just a small community working together and sharing adventure to achieve a common goal.

  • @inflickked you were probably afk during the entire stream.
