After latest update FPS dropped to 1-3 and ping raised to 200-1000

  • Hi,

After lastest update of SOT, i havent been able to play. FPS dropped to 1-3 and ping raised to 200-1000.

    I have tried everything.
Changing setting, reinstalling all from drivers to game.

Support site just redirects me to xbox site before i can make ticket???

    I have NVIDIA® GeForce® 1050 with 3GB DDR5 in Lenovo ThinkPad T15p.

Game just dont use the graphic card(s) or cpu. All show allmost no usage during game.

All other games (server based or not) Work just fine. Good ping or good fps. and they utilise GPU and CPU.

I am getting desperate. Cant get help from anywhere.

    Thanks,
Fellow pirate in need of help

  • It works fine for me, that's very odd.

Did you try DDU for your gpu drivers?

  • @personalc0ffee

No, but i tried clean install with older drivers and newest driver. And there was no updates on drivers or windows.

  • @personalc0ffee
No help from DDU. I removed all and reinstalled all. No help.
    And everything else works.
This is so sad. Thing that i have waited the most. That i can play with my both sons. Other one all so started to play. And now i cant.

  • I wonder if maybe the laptop for SOME reason, is trying to use the integrated graphics instead of the dedi gpu

  • @personalc0ffee

I have ordered from all settings to not to use integrated. And integraded GPU is all so at max 2% load. Like SOT is not using GPU:s at all.

    Perhaps, try this

  • Oh and also don't forget to install the latest Nvidia driver package after you used DDU.

  • @personalc0ffee

First of all. Thanks for helping me.

I have now done this and added to SOT in every where i can that it should use correct GPU.

I even disabled integrated GPU for awhile. But what ever i do, GPU load stays at 1-5% and FPS is 1-3.

Cant help thinking that Rare broke something at that last update.

Ps. And after DDU i installed the latest drivers. No help.

I just wish i could do Ticket to support. But i cant cos it redirects me to xbox site. 0,5 sec i see the ticket screen.

  • @virtual-jesus-6 Try this support link

    https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new

I hope that link works, as it seems support is the only one that could probably help you now. I've done all I can think of that's normally the cause for low fps, other than some kind of thermal issue but you said other game are fine.

  • @virtual-jesus-6
That actually happened to me too, I was searching, asking people, but it looked like I was alone with this problem
At that support link there is no way I can report the problem, it's just FAQ page

  • @m00sepsycho
Hi! i Was able to do ticket when i chose "Bug report". As horrible this is. It is relief that i am not alone. I have searched over 20 hour now for anwers. It looks like they must have changed something. There are other games too that have similar problem. When you do the ticket. Refer to mine too REQUEST ID: 343721
If i find something, ill tell you here.

  • @m00sepsycho
First guides they gave didnt help at all. I have literally tried everything i can find. And i have programmer 21 years. Not graphics based software, but i got some understanding how these work. It must be the latest update.

  • @virtual-jesus-6
I actually managed to create ticket too, and I have some answer: 343834
I always turn my antivirus ESET into game mode when I play online games
For solution 1 - there is no reset option on my game
For 2 - I actually have no idea how date/time can affect fps, but I look into it
For 3 referred service: "IP Helper" is on, so it's not it
    4 and 5 haven't looked yet
I'm still on my work hours so will try later

  • @virtual-jesus-6
    Here what I received:

Are you using a VPN perhaps? That is also known to cause conflicts when attempting to connect to the game.

    Other solutions to try:

    • See if any Windows Updates are available on your PC.
    • Run a malware scan on your PC (this differs to an antivirus scan)
    • Provide the name of the antivirus software you are using. Sometimes the antivirus is so secure it can prevent connection to our game.

    Solution 1
    Press the Windows Key
    Type in Apps and Features
Find Sea of Thieves on the list
    Select Advanced Options
    Select Reset

    Solution 2
Right click the clock on your start menu
    Select Adjust date/time.
Untick then retick Set time zone automatically. (If this is already set to automatic then toggle it back to manual and then to automatic once more)
    Reboot your PC

    Solution 3
Press windows key and search for "services", open it.
Locate "IP Helper" in the list and check if it is running - if not, this is the issue.
Right click "IP Helper" and go to properties, then dependencies tab.
Look for each of these dependencies in the previous services list and check each one is running and set to "automatic" startup type. You can check this by right clicking the service and select properties. Whilst on this page there is a startup dropdown. Make sure it is set to automatic. (Most common one that is not running is the "WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery service")
Once you find the service that is not running, right click it and press start. If start is greyed out and you cannot restart the process then continue to the next step. If you can start the process, do so - restart your computer and check "IP Helper" is now running, you should be done.
If the process is still not running follow on to part 2 below.

    Part 2
If the process cannot be started with the right click menu, you likely have a registry issue causing it to not function properly.
Press windows key and search for "Regedit", then run as administrator.
A quick google search will tell you where to locate the particular dependency service that is not running.
Find the default values for the service and change them in the properties.
    Restart your computer
    Check "IP Helper" is running

    Solution 4

    Solution 5
    Port forwarding
    https://beta.support.xbox.com/help/Hardware-Network/connect-network/network-ports-used-xbox-live

  • @m00sepsycho
Same as mine. But no help from those.

  • @virtual-jesus-6
Well that sucks, but I haven't had much hope either way
    It's gotta be the update
Although we have same graphic card, may be it have something to do with it too, idunno

  • @m00sepsycho
Did you have earlier problems like i did?

FPS might have been like 60 and youre standing in game same place nothings happening. Sudden drop to lets say 30 and about 30 sec and it climbs back to 60. And this happened during game many times.

I am sure that this is something they changed. Only guestion is that are we so small amount of people who suffer from this, that fix will come next christmas or summer... :(

Sure that its something they changed and that change was not good for our graphics card.

  • @virtual-jesus-6
What you talking about sometimes happens when galleon crew joins the server, as I heard - everyone get high ping for small amount of time, fps drops accordingly, but it goes back to normal shortly after. That is not game breaking.
What happened after update however is. Even in start menu I have 3-9 fps, and it is constant

  • Please keep us posted. I am experiencing the same issues with my Geforce 1060.
    Last week 3 things happened:

    Win 10 Updates KB5006670 & KB5005539 were released
Geforce Game Ready Driver 496.13 was released
Sea of Thieves 2.3.1 was released

Since then my GPU load ingame is below 3% and Fps 1-5.

I have tried the following things so far:

    • Rolling back KB5005539 (Security Update KB5006670 cannot be rolled back)
    • Removing Game Ready Driver 496.13 via DDU and trying the following versions 442.74, 471.68, 471.68
    • Overriding Power Management Mode in 3D settings of NVIDIA Control Panel to "Prefer Maximum Performance"
    • Disabling V-Sync
    • Disabling G-Sync
    • Disabling any other GPU in device manager
    • Checking via 3DMark that my GPU and CPU (Intel i5-8600K @ 3.60GHz) are able to provide usual performance in DirextX11 (Time Spy score 4400 vs 4436 average)
    • Updating Sea of Thieves to version 2.3.11
    • Verifying the Game integrity cache in Steam
    • Re-Installing the Game via Steam

Right now I am at loss

  • Well I have tried all of the suggestions with no results
So I don't know what to do

  • @m00sepsycho

I think there has been some changes to grapichs engine or something. I dont think its nothing we can do?

  • @p3pp49720

do ticket to support too. and refencence our numbers there.

  • @virtual-jesus-6
Apart from wait and hope for quick resolving, pretty much nothing yeah

  • Are you all running 1060's?

  • @p3pp49720

    FYI:
I had to bite the bullet and freshly re-install Windows 10, now the FPS are back to normal for me.

  • @p3pp49720
    Really? Windows update?

    @ PersonalC0ffee
    Mine's 1050 2GB

  • @m00sepsycho Take it with a grain of salt (sic!). My fix might not be the solution to your issues.

  • @p3pp49720
I hope that might help. But i am pretty sure there was no windows updates on my computer prior the problem. I am starting consider buy new gaming laptop. So mega anoyed that i cant play.

  • So yeah, I tried windows reset and it worked
Have not spent much time playing, but it is something

  • Actually, something not right!
Now I am seeng that sea of thieves using integrated video card, instead of nvidia
    Fps however is 60

  • Managed to make it run properly, that's a win I suppose

  • @m00sepsycho
    What you did? reinstalled windows?

  • @m00sepsycho

in my case, Rare informed that this is solved case. Even i havent been able to get it works with their instructions. Well, i bought a new laptop and now i have maxed graphics and 120-140 fps. So problem sorted...

  • Same here, 60 FPS cap when normal is 120, and 4 FPS in menu and cheking barrels =(
