Not good to be bringing us political correctness to our fantasy pirate game

    I woke up, later I visit the forums, I saw a new patch notes thread, I saw a new event and some new features, everything was perfect until I saw the rainbow flag being added.

    First, this is not about discriminating, I respect this “proud” community of the rainbow flag, but freedom speech should be respected too.

    It's all right to support the minorities but this is a pirate game, for example, I’m mexican but I dont ask for a mexican flag even that there’s discrimination against mexicans, Mexico’s flag wasnt even created by this piracy time period that is in this game, rainbow flag neither.

    I know it’s just a rainbow flag but that detail affects the essence of the game, of a pirate game, I know it’s not a really really big deal, but why do we bring political correctness into this game? There’s simple no need, it’s just a trend of people to support it on this unnecessary occasions

    It was a stupid idea. Now we will have all types of non pirate flags in the game. So if Rare doesnt start adding flags of every religion, race ,and nationality then those ppl will feel left out. Its totally non immersive.
    We are all welocme before today. This flag did nothing but bring the real world to our seas.

    If it's a big deal to you fine, I just can't see it honestly. Fly it or don't. Problem solved.

    This is not a historically accurate game in any way. I don't recall a time or place where men and women shot themselves out of Cannons and summoned sea beasts with drums.

    Point is... if it's 2018 or a Cartoon version of the 17th century... The sea of thieves is big enough for everyone. If one is reminded of that on occasion, it's of harm to no one.

    I'd argue there's a big difference between adding a new cosmetic and choosing to raise a complaint about it over bugs or true content additions. We're sitting here discussing what amounts to maybe 30 minutes of work from one artist on the team.

    I think it's about time games start including things like this in their game. It's a positive message of inclusivity and respect and nothing more.

    People's reactions are giving the flag way more power and game implications than it actually has. Be proud that the community and our society has taken such a positive step forward and move on.

    Im with you on this. Trans and don't want multi-colored flags in a game focusing on piracy in the 1700s. Even if it wasn't political i wouldn't want a multi-colored flag in a game about plundering the seas.

    Reality is you can’t even see the Flags lol.
    So tiny you would have to stop down in the middle of the battle when your really close to one another and pull out you telescope just to see what the ship is flying.

    I don't see any issue here. We have flags of all sorts of colors and now we have them all combined into one. No one is forcing you to fly said flag and it is 100% up to the devs on what they want to add to their game. Let them do what they feel they want to do for LGBTQ Pride month.

    Agreed that it needlessly distracts by injecting politics. Rare themselves highlighted the meaning in the patch notes. Inclusion and celebration are not the same.

    It's remarkable that game companies are so eager to antagonize half their players and potential customers. But if the flag remains, we are accustomed to such gestures by entertainment industries.

    Jasus, really? It's a flag. It offends you that they included it? Why?

    I mean it'll mean the game gets banned in Russia but apart from that if people wanna fly a flag then let them fly a flag. The meaning of the rainbow is to be inclusive of ALL sexual orientations and gender identities, including heterosexual, the flag is inclusive rather than exclusive by nature, that's why it's ok and the p***s swastica that you want as a flag isn't.

    I'm more concerned about you wanting to prevent people flying a flag than anything else. Since when are you the moral authority on how other people should be allowed to express themselves?

    Well im not gonna force them to remove it. Whats done is done. But rare if you actually care about politics in games then im gonna state this. Ill be waiting for my trans flag and many other religious political flags as well. (Not really.)

    It's a sad day when Reddit is presenting more mature behavior on this topic. I still can't believe I live in a world where every sexual preference but one is considered a political issue, much less one that people would feel antagonized by the mere reminder that sexual preferences other than their own exist.

    I got to be honest. This rainbow flag nonsense has actually gotten me interested in finally using the flags. Not that I care about any perceived offensiveness, it just makes me want to fly it just to p**s people off.

    I just love how some of these people have never provided any actual constructive feedback about the game. Yet they are bothered enough by a flag and don't want the inclusion of political ideas into the game, enough that they will respond to political discussion.

    Have you considered that it wasn't about politics but just about having a rainbow flag to go with the checkered flag that also makes no sense in a 1700s pirate game?

    Maybe it was added for fun rather than any serious political statement. This "it's about politics in games" angle reminds me of a certain stripe of 2014 bad faith arguments regarding ethics in games journalism.

    @lifewcoke I’m almost positive the ones flying this flag will be the ones crying & ticked off. Try doing a skeleton throne on my server whilst flying that flag. It’s nothing against LGBT flag specifically, it’s the inclusion of it & not other political based flags. Why should only one class be allowed this “self expression” if this is in. All flags should be in Maga, confederate & swashstika. If others can’t be offended by your flag why should you be offended by theirs?

    Again, if I am being honest, who cares if only one class be allowed "self expression"? These flags have no meaning to me, therefore, I do not care.

    Also, I will gladly try doing a skeleton throne with you while flying that flag. Fair warning though, I have been around the block a few times in this game so if you are going to come at me, it better be with everything you got.

    The only thing here is this fact.

    People, recently, asked for that flag they added. Okay. Don't care much if that has meaning or not. Everyone is equal here. But that's not what I want to point to.
    What I want to point is, why is this flag added and a lot of other simple things asked not?!

    What are the priorities of the devs in this game?!

    @dave-plunder well the title says "fantasy" pirate game. This should be left out of the game to leave real world issues out of it. If this is the plan i want my confederate battle flag and give the germans the n**i flag
