[Suggestion] Option to switch island names to English/different languages

  • This is something that would help native and non-native english speakers get along if they set their console or pc in a different language (for example, because they prefer their Tall Tales like that).

  • I’m curious tho. What is Sea Of Thieves called in other languages? What are pirates called?
Do they have a different way of writing “Reapers Hideout”?

  • @burnbacon sagte in Option to switch island names to English/different languages:

What is Sea Of Thieves called in other languages?

    German/Deutsch:

    • Sea of Thieves = Meer der Diebe
    • Pirates = Piraten
    • Pirate Emporium = Piratenbasar
    • Sloop = Schaluppe
    • Emissary = Botschafter
    • Sovereigns = Herrscher
    • Reapers Bones = Schnitterknochen
    • Reapers Hideout = Schnitterversteck

some Island Names (when translated in game) would be:

    • Snake Island = Schlangeninsel
    • Lonely Isle = einsame Insel
    • Lookout Point = Aussichtspunkt

There are also bad and confusing translations in the game,
like for example the translation of "well played!" (from pirate chat wheel)
is "gar nicht schlecht!" which translates to "not bad".
But it should be translated "well played = gut gespielt!" ...

Yeah, that would be the translations. Though "Sea of Thieves" of course isn't translated - at least in the title. Can't confirm if they translate it in any dialogue.

  • I would've thought this would've already been a thing... maybe they should check the translations they have made then start coming up with translation to different languages. of course, translation is probably expensive (like I know).

  • I do know I switched mine from Portuguese to English because I felt like the translations hurt more than they fixed, they used a Portuguese-Brazilian translation for "Tall Tales"-"Grande Lorota" that means "big lie" instead of "huge story".
Didn't help that I'm Portuguese so I never heard the word "Lorota" before Sea of Thieves.
I also felt some translations on the "Tall tales" conveyed different meanings than they were supposed to, it was mostly because of tall tales and the usual Brazilian-Portuguese discrepancy with Portuguese that lead me to play in English instead of "Portuguese".
