This game is missing integrations with others.

  • At the heart of Sea of Thieves has always been player interactions, no matter bad or good the social aspect was clearly the main focus. I know steps have been taken to improve social interactions within the game but it is still far from perfect in fact it’s almost nonexistent in a sense especially good interactions.

Typically players shoot first and ask questions later. But this suggestion will hopefully help.

Like I have previously suggested, a social hub imo is very needed, I would love to see the Sea Dog tavern turned into a social hub, this hub can be accessed from the main menu, instead of setting sail straight away you can visit the hub first then set sail from there. The hub could support the same amount of players as would be allowed in adventure, some expansions need to be made to the tavern to fit us all.

Allow crews to partake in challenges, events, and voyages together launching from the hub, this gives players the opportunity to meet new players and work with would be enemies to achieve the same goal.

Some of you will disagree, a lot of you hate the idea of alliances, PVE etc, but the fact of the matter is, that is precisely aiding in SoT’s demise. I love a good PvP battle, but if all we do is fight all the time everyone gets burned out, there needs to be balance.

We are currently in a loop, every session feels more or less the same, we need a breath of fresh air and I think we will get that with interactions outside of our crews.

  • I love the idea of a social hub in the menu to help with the open crew issues.

However, this does not help with in game interactions and communication.

The problems in game stem from the varying communication platforms that people are using and a poor systems to switch to in game chat on the fly.

I've said/suggested this before, so I'll just copy and paste it...

The number of times I've had to play "tech support" in the game when just trying to have a conversation is hilarious.

You've got people using Discord, people in Xbox parties, people with no mics, people who are using in-game voice, people who are trying to use in-game voice but have some setting screwed up, people who are trying to use in-game voice but it's bugged, people who knowingly or unknowingly have communications from other crews turned off, and all sorts of other scenarios...

These communication variances often lead to silence on the seas, whether intentional or not...and the result is fight or flight...

I think part of the solution would be to enhance the IN-GAME communication and make it a platform that people actually want to use...and it wouldn't take much, honestly.

1). A simple, front-page menu setting of "Crew Chat" or "Open Chat" would go a LONG way to making crews want to use the in-game chat.

2). Make the chat icon (the one that shows up in the top right when you talk in game) be a TWO-WAY icon. If it's showing up in your top right, it should show up in everyone in your proximity's top left. Simple and would go a long way as far as troubleshooting goes.

There's plenty of other things they could do to enhance communication within the game, but those 2 would be a really good start.

  • Agreed, we need an actual pirate tavern in game!

  • Typically players shoot first and ask questions later

"typical" players sure, but not all. Some run away and avoid each other. Some sneak on ships and wait around messing with crews. Others will stop to chat.

  • The main thing in anything they decide is to remain committed to it even through the fire.

With the heavy pop in and pop out reality of gamepass and a portion of the community that puts on a production every time they report something there is gonna be heat in a more social in-game environment.

At this point in the game there are more pros than cons for expanding social options to try to keep people around more often and to try to incentivize investment in the environment by supporting and encouraging those connections, for newer players and other players without connections specifically.

  • the fact of the matter is, that is precisely aiding in SoT’s demise.

    Source? You made it up.

SoT’s fine, it doesn’t need what you’re looking for. It was horrendously toxic when we were all stuck in a lobby together in Arena, this would be no different. And if you say it would be, you’re naive and clearly never heard the abuse that came out of those mics…

    No thanks.

They implemented ship names and have been dealing with that pretty well.

They have been keeping up on toxicity reports well and changed their policy to make it more clear that certain types of communication are not welcome in this environment.

Bickering is gonna happen, the theatrics of it all are gonna happen, but years are long enough to sacrifice connection resources to avoid it.

It'll take some effort and commitment to get through some form of community building effort but the opportunity of it has value.

Open crew gets a bad rap in the social areas but the reality of it is that many many people use it and have used it as a resource for years, even with all the unfortunate parts of random interaction.

Rare has a strong enough record on taking it seriously and enough works well enough around the game to where I think they could do alright if they wanted to try.

    Correct.
But then I've enjoyed a lot of good interaction lately, simply by rolling up slowly on a crew with my cannons up, launching a firework to announce myself, then try to communicate from there. Sure, some will immediately try to roll you, but there will be some crews who will be happy to alliance up.

If your proposal for joining a hub to find people to join on the same server with, makes it easier for tasks that require multiple crews, like the Shrouded Deep adventure or Glitterbeard, it sounds like it has merit.

  • I'd love to have a less toxic player community in SoT, and the people I have met in game, the last time I was able to speak to people in game without it being mostly just in between PvP having slurs thrown at me, were pretty nice. I never really want to have a social interaction with the forum regulars but what can you do. I think this would be a lot of fun and as they already have a ton of the assets in game, IE the tavern, and a working (if poorly) in game chat and crew chat function. I don't want to have to work so incredibly hard to have a non toxic player interaction, hell I have better player interactions in games that are just PvP. This would make a great filler update like season 12 or 13, and could help to get new people a reason to stay in the game, and games that are just social hubs already succeed very well, so one with that and all SoT has to offer would do amazingly, I already use it as a game to keep it touch with long distance and close friends who can't always get out, although we are looking for new games to play now seeing how SoT is going.
