Gunpowder Keg Hit Detection issues

  • Since the update I've had two kegs blow up while harpooning them out of the water. It's as though the hitbox of the keg is still active and exploded once it reaches the boat. Seems to be if there is any forward motion of the boat the hitbox is active rather than registering it's been pulled out of the water.

    Can we please revert the kegs to how they were before in terms of interacting with the Harpoon?

    They always blew up when harpooned.

  • @d-jaguar Not true, with Dark Relics they made them "hookable" again, they even did it live on the weekly stream if you don't believe me.

    To the point; Seems to be an issue when you have the harpoon aimed rather low and hook the GP it will explode since the game thinks someone dropped it infront of you.

  • @itz-majman It was updated in Dark Relics, which is why I linked that update (Dark Relics), and not the new patch notes - Smugglers run. I went through the current patch notes to confirm they didn't change it, you're correct - was nothing in the new notes.

    Appears to be a bug with the updated gunpowder physics and possibly the Harpoon Hit Detection.

  • @itz-majman Nah all good, just happy it's not just me seeing the issue. Scared myself sailing today and was confused with what happened lol.

    On the plus side it's pretty easy to replicate. Seems to be relatively fine when not moving. Any sort of boat momentum and BOOM.

  • This update changed the harpoon to make it easier to pick up objects. Its possible that it is picking up this object but the hitbox is "detached" (or offset from the harpoon based on how far you were from it when it was picked up) which could cause collision with the ship when its reeled in.

    Does it explode every time, or just sometimes? Can you 100% harpoon a keg dead center while not bobbing in the water and the keg is on a solid surface and not have it explode?

  • @d3adst1ck I've noticed the harpoon changes, it's much easier to pick things up. Kegs seem to blow up as soon as they are reeled in though. I'm 2 for 2 on harpooning them now. One time was in motion, the other was stationary.

    It's almost that the hit box for the keg registers it as an active water keg and the boat is too close - therefore it explodes. It registers a hit on the boat even before you can try to offload it from the housing. It's immediate when it happens.

    I learned not to harpoon a keg and never tried again. Good to know.

  • I can confirm this was also an issue during the Dark Relics event, so harpoon aim improvements have nothing to do with it.

  • @hisdarkestfear Personally didn't have any issues with it in Dark relics, that's when I started doing it.

    Doesn't mean it didn't happen though! I just notice it's frequent now - hence the post!
