THERE IS NO SKILL in coming up to someone from any side.

Yes, there is. If you're stupid enough to let someone close enough to your character to one-shot you, it is your fault and his accomplishment. Your entire rant is useless as you could also argue that the sniper is bad because you don't even need to be close to your target to shoot them. A shotgun is effective on close range. That's how it is. Want to avoid that? Don't allow players to come close to you.

  • @l4chsfps what are you talking about? It doesn’t matter if the person is right in front of me and I am ready to battle. I have full health. They come right up and bang in my face and I’m instantly dead . Did you understand anything I said?? It was a rant you are correct. But you aren’t speaking on behalf of the players. Your speaking for yourself and it’s that down right negative response, is exactly why it’s pointless having a opinion when people like you out there think your always right as long as the game goes your way!! Stop it. And get a grip. Jeeez!

  • I understand your frustration and I wouldn’t really mind if they lowered the damage but I don’t really care if they don’t. The problem I have with it is people with better ping get one shots way more often than people who have higher ping like me. That’s why I use a pistol most of the time. Hopefully Rare will tweak it and make it more consistent.

  • @britishmango05
I can accept that totally. I understand that my first post sounds frustrated but genuinely. It doesn’t matter if I’m a good or bad player. If I’m “stupid enough” as the first guy said to let someone get so close to me. (I mean really). 1 hit kill with a blunder is worse than double gun. That’s my only issue.

  • @capt-k-janeway
Its basically a shotgun. These are usually one hit in almost every game since the dawn of gaming.

Its really easy to avoid being one shotted. I use a pistol. When i see a guy with a blunder commin at me i walk backwards and shoot him. Easy mate.

Havnt died to a blunder in a long time. Then again i dont let players board me either.

If its not a one shot its useless. U need to land all 10 pellets. And be right next to someone. Pistol is mid range. And EoR os long. Seems balanced.

  • Also, you need to be very close to your target... if not you will not have a one shot kill.

I don't know exactly how the blunderbuss works in this game, but i assume there is a fast damage drop, and therefore the weapon is balanced in the game.

(Perhaps someone knows if it uses damage drop off, or does it have multiple pellets that add damage.)

Just my couple of cents to the discussion.

  • I have never used the blunderbuss in Adventure prior to Arena.
Nobody did until they revamped the firearms a while ago.

Then the Sea Dogs opened Atena with a huge emphasis to use the weapon early.
Why? Because Rare wants this weapon to be the close quarter option. Making the blunderbuss the best option for ship defence, pretty critical in Arena.
It is also great for pirates interested in learning how to kill other pirates.
It's a great equalizer for newbs versus more experienced pvp'ers.

DeMarco and Lisedi offer the title High Caliber Sea Dog for two-hundred kills.
Sure it's going to be in the back of some enemy repairing a hole, or target locked on a cannon, trimming a sail, or otherwise unaware they're about to get one-shot, but two hundred kills are a dedicated undertaking.
I'll take all the cheap kills I can, these aren't innocents in Adventure, these are Arena spawncampers, or AFKers.
So there are rewards with a pirate killcount for this weapon.
Now that I earned my title, I know what the blunderbuss is for and how to use it.

It's not infallible, or overpowered, it's working as intended, and fulfills a role.

  • @barnabas-seadog
I wanna add it takes more skill than the OP claims it does. I know, cause i fight against it all the time. And i can tell when a noob pulls the trigger to early

  • False. It is intended at close range it is 1 hit kill. It does take skill and has its draw backs. It involves to get close to that person. Swords are one of the best weapons in the game. Having to get close to somone to kill them makes it tricky. Specially when people are using snipers all they have to do is stay away and snipe.

Each pellet deals its own damage. I'm pretty sure its 10 pellets at 10% each. Regardless, you have to connect with every pellet to one-shot a pirate at full health.

  • @bactatankbill

    OK, good to know.

Well if that is the case, and with the current spread... i think the blunderbuss is well balanced. One shot kill at extreme close range, and after that "random" damage.
