How do dark relic voyages work?

  • Are they gold hoarder voyages with oos stuff, or are they something different? I just want to know whether they have potential to become a new soul voyage type(like cargo runs)

  • @blazedrake100 Ahoy matey!

In essence, they are a mixture of Order of Souls And Gold Hoarder maps - but with a variation in the items that you can dig up!

There's some valuable treasure that you would not expect to be able to dig up, not to mention the new relics!

You pretty much answered your own question, it's mostly Order of Souls mashed together with Gold Hoarders.

  • Man, I was hoping it was something like you have to stop a ritual. Guess I won't do them then

This update is again targeted towards Non-legends and Non-Athena-10 Pirate Legends. Besides some new exclusive cosmetics, there isn't much to work towards.
Collecting Reaper's Chests might be fun if you are into PvP and it will land you with some more doubloons.

Even if you're not interested in repeating them for commendations, you only have to do 3 of them (one in each original region) to unlock the Mercenary Capstan, Wheel and Cannons for purchase from Duke... So worth doing if you want to complete that ship set.

  • @realstyli
Maybe if I feel like gold hoarders when I log on. I already have ship cosmetics that I like, but I can check out the new ones

  • I might be alone here, but, I quite enjoy the chilled, more relaxed commendations this time. Far less taxing than the last lot, and far more obtainable through natural means. Gives me time to get ‘em done, and mop up some progress towards ranking up as a PL.

    Question though...

Dark Relics can only be found through Duke’s voyages, right? Even then, you’re not guaranteed a lot. I just did the Shores of Plenty and walked away with just two dark relics. Am I right in assuming that if I run out of doubloons before completing the commendations, I’ve no way to finish these?

    I’m running pretty low...

I read that Duke now pays for Reaper Chests, does this prove true even after you earn the chest-specific commendations?

  • @kaloudz
I believe each reapers chest gives you a couple of doubloons on turn in.

Another question, how long are the voyages? As long as last time, or longer?

  • @blazedrake100

Phew! Least I know we can pull in the doubloons no matter what. It’d have been a pain to be cut out of these due to lack of blue coin.

Voyages are not long at all. Four phases: one skelly quest, one x map, one skelly quest, one x map. Done :)

Takes about 20 minutes due to how close the islands are that they take you to. Watch out when you’re going to reaper chests though...

I was in a crew when one popped up nearby. Two minutes later. I was in no crew lol People change, fast.

  • Is there a story line? Talking NPCs?

  • @dislex-fx Nope. It’s the usual voyages we tend to get from Duke. One the better though imo.

    :s

Did Rare give up on awesome events that brought everyone out to play?

  • I prefer not having the in your face storyline and voice acting everywhere... there is a deep sub-narrative running through all the updates and they all do piece together. They are just designed not to get in the way of players' own stories while driving interest and wonder at where the story is going.

That's an interesting way to look at it. I can appreciate that idea, but, man, how fun was the original Meg?

  • Yeah, it's all feeding into the lore of the game. I like these voyages more than last month's event. I know they were more explosive but they just felt like a rehash of the old Reaper's Run voyages but with gunpowder kegs.

The new Dark Relic voyages are a lot more varied and the Reaper's Chest is a nice change and bound to be a lot more engaging than the Reaper's Runs - when we did the Reaper Runs, we never had a single ship come after us, which was kind of boring. The chest feels a lot more tense as you "know" there are other ships going for it too.

  • @kaloudz Exactly why doubloon cost should be removed from the voyages

15 Dubs per chest, plus about 100 dubs extra for handing in 5 chests.

Tip: You can hop game servers until you find a Reapers Shipwreck close to your outpost. Everyone should be a Pirate Legend within the next four weeks easily.
