New anti afk detection is BS. alternative solution

  • How about Rare take a hint from other game industry GIANTS and add report features? In other games you can just mark a team mate AFK and it will either do a check to see if they are AFK or just straight up kick them from the game.

I am sure I am not the only solo slooper who either bought a second copy of the game (due to not knowing about family share) or setup family share so we could log in a 2nd character to our own boat to insure if we get DCed that we don't lose all our stuff. So basically a good amount of your players have paid you a second time for your game to try and work around not having a rejoin feature and now we are getting shafted hardcore.

We have been begging from day 1 for a brief window to rejoin our own ship if the game crashes or we get lagged out. So we have had to come up with our own alternatives to your lack of willingness to code a rejoin option where our ship is temporarily held in reserve for us.

From day 1 you guys have shown you don't understand how online games work, not allowing players to have a closed crew thus 1 crew mate had to use the restroom, they get disconnected do to being idle too long now we have a random on our boat who refuses to leave. No option to vote kick a crew mate so we have to brig them and hope they get bored enough to leave, problem is they noticed we were on an athena and only had 2 stops left. Yea you think they are gonna leave? So to prevent this was when my whole crew first started using anti AFK macros. We didnt care if our friend went to use the bathroom and was AFK for a bit.

This AFK problem is more an issue for random crews than crews of friends. But the anti AFK detection is negatively effecting acceptable AFKs. Like you cant even go throw some food in the microwave and use the rest room any more because simply returning to the keyboard and hitting spacebar to jump isnt enough for the game to consider you there. Heck I just got disconnected 30 seconds after I turned to my laptop, ran around the boat, shot my gun, reloaded my ammo, ran around the boat a second time..... Nope the game still considered me AFK after all those actions. Perhaps my laptop is just such a laggy POS that they anti AFK also so that and was like get this fool out of here.

    TLDR
Add a vote to kick option for crew mates and remove the AFK detection. You have a lot of solo players who just use a 2nd character to prevent them from losing their ship upon DC so we use anti AFK methods as you refused to give us a rejoin option. OR add a vote crewmate as AFK and only run the AFK detection if the player has been reported as AFKing

  • While I sympathize with your distress, a vote to kick option isn't the way to go, and the reasons for that have been discussed ad nauseam in other threads.

  • The game should introduce a "Are you still there?" pop up notification before it just slams you out of the game if you ask me.

This would be absolutely nice! Previous to the current AFK detection (which is a wee bit too strong but I get what Rare is trying to stop) I would go to the bathroom or to make a sandwich and would usually get back in time but sometimes I would be picking up my controller when just before I could press something the dread black screen appears. It would be nice to get a warning at least a min or two prior to the kick so that way in those situations where you on in another room peeking in you would see that warning and know to run over to nudge that controller real quick!

  • @contentzilla I think it would have to be a bit more than just a nudge... A rubber band can mimic a nudge.

Well currently the anti-afk detection can now detect the rubber band method on a controller. So now the only way to go AFK is with a very good macro on PC. So with the current update it would be really nice to get that warning so you know hey I've got to get back to my game or else I'm gonna be kicked!!
