such a toxic community!!!

  • Are you really complaining about the PvP mode is full of players who kill you...?

If you know how the naval battles work in the Adventure mode, so why are you complaining when you just launch a PvP game mode in Sea of Thieves where EVERY encounter will be that kind of fight ? I mean... What's the point ? Just play in adventure if you don't like PvP, seriously...

  • @grievous32 sagte in such a toxic community!!!:

Just play in adventure if you don't like PvP, seriously...

    Why so dishonest?

    @clumsy-george

Founder too, but when i partaked in rechnical alpha's and beta's later i weren't around in the forums that much and i also changed my GT december last year to have a more funny and piratish Name :-)

I remember some of the early days.
I sometimes wish this would be a niche product and would have never become something for streamers and achievers and serious gamers.
I would like to remove all of the progression!!!
Make it gold to earn and all cloth available easily for everybody.
Remove any meaning of grind and all that.
Make it a boring game to gamers.
Seriously make it boring and meaningless as hell to these gamers.
I liked it in Alpha/Beta when there was only random loot on islands, no gold hoarder NPC, no NPC at all.

It's not Rare or Microsoft it's the gamers of today who spoil almost every online game for me. And i'm playing games since 1984 on computers.
    I'm getting old :-/

I will take a break, the whole thing soacked me into that treadmill.
I should have given nothing about doing Tales 5 times.
I/we had a blast doing them the 1st time without any spoilers or help, we didnt even know there were the coordinates on the back of the sheet of wood. We recognized islands by pictures in the books, we broke our brains for some riddles, but made it and were very much pleased.
I then had a lot of time because of a little disease and helped others to do Tales and finally got the curse (unique) and were so happy. And very a much disappointed when they took it away again. But it shouldnt bother me. It's not the cosmetics or any form of progression play for. Not in the slightest, but i admit i was infected the last 2 weeks.
I started to get the Killer Whale and recognized how grindy it is.
Exhausted already after a night of fishing.
I also did some Arena Matches.
All fun, all good, but then time and time again i meet jerks and i recognized i got upset for nothing.
I read the forum and the ....
postings very often let me despair.
I really dont want to play with or versus people of that attitude.
    It destroys my experience completely.
    I'll take a break.
I need to come back to that stance where nothing matters, but the fun playing it and completely separate from the "community" i dont want to be part of anymore.
I am a singleparent man with a daughter 13yo and a sweet dog.
    I cant stand this anymore.
The performance focussed aproach, all the seriousness and ego trips, all the violations to others dignity.
I'm gulty too, i here and there already lost my patience.
    The whole thing is contagious.
You need to be very conscious and self confident to be immune to this.
I need to step back and cure myself.
Maybe just a few days, maybe a week or a month ot two, i dont know.

I also wanted to find likeminded people, who....
Ah forget it... I'm searching for 20 years of online gaming for this person or players.
Players who roleplay and immerse, but not the way roleplaying has become. No Excel warriors, not achievers, no keepers of the rules and such but players playing games playful and only for fun.
There is nobody until, everybody is gaming the system, everybody is telling me no it's not worth it, let it be. No Cargo's, but speedruns, nothing to gain from, but quicker, higher, faster, further.

I think it's over. When xboxers opt out, guess who's left on PC?
It will become my worst nightmare for me.

I know them all, i played CS 1.6 i played UO, Darkfall and other open Sandbox PvP games like Legends of Aria and also as a red PK. So i know both sides of the medal.
    But....
    No, just no!
    Not anymore.
Gamers haven't even changed that much. We had the min maxers in the 90ies already and that was the moment playing starts to die for me.
I had 2 pen and paper groups.
1 was roleplaying the other were min maxing achievers and reward hunters. Guess what was more fun?
It was the moment when all and everything needed progression and nobody was able to use it's fantasy and the tools/ environment to create player content anymore.

I'm thinking for a long time to make a thread, searching for people who aproach it playfull, roleplayish, funny, not serious, who play all aspects of the game , who never tap a chest, never refuse doing a cargo, never left something behind, because it's "not worth it" and all this.
People who are allways nice, even when attacking others and caring for thein fellow players, even when attacking or especially when PvPing.

Sorry for beeing sentimental, but i allways liked your posts and know you are an empathic player and no "gamer".
At least i dont think you are.

    Have fun.

  • Anytime I've run into people who give me instant stage 4 brain cancer they've been from Xbox. Even I have begun to desire that promised opt-out crossplay.

The toxic behavior itself obviously isn't limited to the xbox base, but I say with confidence that majority of this behavior falls squarely there.

Lastly I believe this behavior is symptom of the game itself. For a long time it had no bars to entry, and while playing nothing was gain, nor lost. Unless you place high value on the cosmetics. So what do you have to lose that's of any value? Dignity, respect, self esteem. That's what the toxic players want to steal from you, not your loot.

@upwardbasket992 Eliminating crossplay will fracture an already dwindling community, increasing wait times for the Arena even further. I rarely see anyone on Voyages as it is. It sounds like you're looking for a single player pirate game, I'm sure there's some good ones out there for you.

Why do people keep perpetuating this myth that servers are gonna change much in terms of population when Optional Crossplay is finally implemented? How many times does Rare have to tell us all that the servers literally don't work that way before this stops?

There is not 1000 ways servers work...
You get people together, you fill a room, if the room gets too empty you merge 2 rooms.

Who do you think has more players Call of Duty or Sea of Thieves...
Go on the Call of Duty PC forums, main complaint
    "dead game, empty servers"

If there would be a healthy population in SoT I shouldn't be getting server merges. Arena Matchmaking should last less than 12 seconds. But I get at least 1 server merge per night, and matchmaking is 5-10 minutes...

The Anniversary did get a lot of people back and IIRC that's when Rare said the population was healthy... however like all games, population bleeds down
I can almost bet that the concurrent playerbase is in the 5000-6000 range... which is VERY LOW
and maybe... just maybe Rare hasn't implemented this crossplay opt out because they know that splitting the community in 4
    ARENA PC
    ARENA XBOX
    ADVENTURE PC
    ADVENTURE XBOX

drives it down to unplayable levels.

  • @headstrongk1llr said in such a toxic community!!!:

SOTs has the most toxic community/people i have ever encountered in my playing Xbox for over a decade.

What games have you been playing because sea of thieves is far from toxic when compared to FPS games.

  • I agree the community is horrible. I was sick stuck at home last week and gave arena a go. The crew I was with called me the most horrendous names because I wouldnt talk with my mic. .
I had lost my voice due to the flu. I was able to type and keep up because I was on a PC so there was no reason for the slue of hate filled words they threw at me.
I ended up leaving when they were repeatedly calling me a useless C*#T.
How do you avoid this when its your own team mates. I cant block or report these people from in game? (that I know of)

Also based on this experience unless I could go in there with friends I will never play this game mode. Not even for the skins

  • @headstrongk1llr Then go and do your homework because the community of Sea of Thieves is one of the few communities that are truly friendly and yes of course alot of people are toxic but what do you want? RARE are doing every possible thing to fight against it the rest is just human race if you dont want to hear it just mute players but again compared to other communities Sea of Thieves is a great one.

  • @anath0re I understand that you replied to someone but i dont understand what you said "I understood that there is often "bad language" specialy for women, but removing crossplay don't make the your community better"
two diffrent things and in GENERAL its console player who are more toxic.

  • @bugaboo-bill
Sir , you wrote a very Open Hearted post that almost makes you defenceless to those that see the oppertunity to bury you with this post...But i will tell you this , the Forum can be addictive , the fact that there are still people that like to play this game in order to meet, talk and help others and also trying at the same time to alter an old and vile attitude behind the PC or Xbox, is something that got and sometimes get's awarded with praise…

That does not mean that you can't have an opinion but if i see the hundrest and one post about Pvp/Pve or make Crossplay optional , i don't read it anymore…
Those things have been discussed over and over again and some are pure baits to make people that have a Heart for this game , make them angry…

If you do love this game ,then it doesn't matter if we have to do a Tall Tale 5 times , i will do even more than 5 ,just because i love a whole lot of the voiceacting and the accompanieng music from Mr Beanland that you can only hear when you trigger or progress in the Tall Tales…

Forget those commandations, don't grind them please...In all honesty , i think that Rare added the levels as a compensation since Microsoft demands those things...i never cared about levels , i played because of my love for the game , for my Friends , for the stories and i don't mean Tall Tales , i mean our own adventures made by the decisions that are made in a second on the feel of panic , coincidence and so on...

i'm a Legend , hihihiiii,; but what does that mean? i played a lot , that's all...A toddler of three can kill me, and if i hear that kid cry out his/her fun ,then that has made my day , not those 10.000 gold coins , they won't make me happy...

The knowledge in the back of my head ( * Yow, yoker, in the back of yer head lies my toilet and i can assure you , it stinks in the back of yer head - In the front, he stinks too, Sunshine * Wow, Captain tearface , be careful with yer jokes , your mouth could tear since you aren't aquanted with humour - yokel * Pffft, Captain on slippers), that i made one person laugh can keep me smiling from laughing…

Last night , we played Arena and i pretended to be an old man ( * Wich...he doesn't have to pretend, he's old) from the USA. Multiple people thought i came from Texas , one of them was a 8 to 12 year old ,that called me "Cowboyman " and who always said " don't kill the cowboyman, he's funny"...Well, this little lad will never know , how much i tried to make him and his crew laugh everytime they killed us….We simply didn't care , and when Mr Musicmee fell away by connection problems , we helped them repair their boat in order to let them finish in first place without being verbally agressive towards any other ship in that game...

All went well , and many had fun, but a servermerge brought a few new ones and one of them needed to have a "go" at the "cowboyman" ...He didn't get one, NOT ONE , of the other crews to help him to verbally bash me , on the contrary , he didn't even, recognized i wasn't even a USA person, he called me a "farmerboy, but i use this word since the real word became censored, hippy" but that was all, we kept goofing , we gave him a verbally, humouristic sneer and he was gone in the next lobby...

i'm telling you Mr BugabooBill, we can't change the Forum nor a complete Community ,but we do can alter a mood in a Lobby...It just takes a strong mental chin to take the few punches but if you let them feel they can't hurt you than they simply leave and the lobby is filled with laughter once again….

When it comes to the Forum , read if you want and count to ten before you answer something that triggered you , you will see that you will answer more ...tranquil than normal and you will have said the same thing in milder words…

When it comes to the game ,one more thing: Play this game because you love it , not because of the trouser or shirt you want, it will come , don't grind because grind is the first step on a road that will make you hate this game...And for your little girl , let her play and play together so you can mute a few and move on with those that do can have a normal conversation…

You both will see , that there are still people who you love to play with….i know how depressing the online Community can be , but who leave depressed behind? Not them, only you … Pretend they don't excist , some will never change , and play and have fun in the way you always had in this and other games....Life is way ,way too short to waste on bad feelings of other persons behaviour...

  • I have only played arena a couple of times but every time either no one spoke or if they did they were friendly with one guy telling very cheesy jokes. However I have had people send some unpleasant messages in the adventure mode but I have been gaming for a long time and remember playing MW2 so I know what a real toxic community is like. Generally I would say the SoT community is actually pretty good. Yes you will always get some people be spiteful. Whether you decide to react (which I don't recommend), ignore and mute them or report them is your choice. I do agree however you should be able to play any game on any platform without the verbal abuse but unfortunately that is life however that doesn't mean you should have to put up with it.

  • @headstrongk1llr Was going to turn in an emissary flag I'd gotten during my voyage before logging off today. There was a ship on Reaper's Island so i went to clear it and ended up killing two guys. When I killed the first guy he was obviously super upset and somehow I had destroyed his ego. Went back to get my flag, but since I was at the end of my journey, I had no food so I couldn't heal. I basically gave them the flag, but then in the death ship he starts calling me low skill, fgg** dogsht, and said "You're just mad you got sh*t on" and that "I'm a sad excuse for a gamer" because I basically let them have the flag knowing I wouldn't be able to 1v3 again with no food. I don't understand this mentality. Some people's brains just haven't evolved past the ape phase I guess lol. This isn't even my main game, so it's not like I'm good enough to really be frustrating people that much, and the fact I get treated this way just for killing people in a PVP game is ridiculous. Sometimes I think they are just not used to dying to solos, and their pride takes a hit and they try to bring me down with them. I just don't understand that, though. About 90% of the time I die/get sunk in this game I give the other dude a GG. Especially if I'm in a crew vs a solo because that's hard to do. I play a lot of video games, but I have never understood the overinflation of people's pride, which is a result of them thinking they are so good, but instead of accepting they're not that good, they just tell every one else that kills them that they're bad. It's such a bad reflection of them as a human being in general. Don't get me wrong, once they break that barrier I am going to right back at them, call them trash too for dying to a solo and being so mad they're being toxic, but damn it kinda ruins my attitude regardless. Don't understand why people who have been gifted this life decide to use it to try to make everyone's life as bad as their sorry excuse for what they call "life". Anyways, done with the rant. Talking about it will help me sleep better tonight. To all the good pirates out there, which I've met a lot, thank you for not letting your primal pride get in the way of you enjoying a video game. Cheeers :)

  • I think its not just SOT. IMO any online game that has pvp and you can hot mic there will be lots of toxicity.

  • @kirstie-72

Arena has Cross Play Option , however if you are on Xbox and you can't find any Matches, it will Merge you into Crossplay for Quicker Play. This has been like this for a while and was intended by the Devs.

Arena is not a "PvP" Mode. It's a seperate game mode who people who don't have hours to sail around that is thrown into fast paced action.

Adventure mode is the majority of where PvP Takes Place. All it's gonna take is for one PvP Encounter for them to come right back on here and complain all over again.

It's a Lose Lose Situation for a lot of people...

  • @nefrit-od said in such a toxic community!!!:

Its about people not about community - mute - report - forget.

That is how you handle it.

Sadly there are toxic people on the seas, but then again there are toxic people everywhere on the Internet. To be honest i would even say that there are less toxicity in SoT, compared to certain other (usually FPS) games where adrenaline flows faster.

To the OP, just ignore the idiots and try to enjoy the rest of the game. Most people are quite nice, and many also play the pirate role... which can be quite fun if you happen to see (and hear) them.

  • @headstrongk1llr

Sea of Thieves is NOT a Toxic Community. What makes it Toxic, DEFINE Toxic?? IT'S A VIDEO GAME. YES There ARE Toxic People EVERYWHERE in Every Game. I've been playing this game for 2 Years and maybe come across a HANDFUL of people who Hot Mic Talking Trash because they got sunk and lost loot. It's part of the game, it will always happen.

You wanna talk about Trash Talking and people calling you every name in the book? Let's go back to the Xbox 360 Days of Call of Duty Modern Warfare when everyone had Thick Skin.

How are people messing your game up on purpose??? Please Explain, you need to have specifics. If it's because you don't want to listen to a bunch of people screaming into their Mics or Blasting Music in the Arena Lobby (I Don't Blame You On This One) Just Go to Other Crews and hit MUTE OTHER CREWS VOICE CHAT, and that solves all your problems.

If you are playing a Video Game and you are having Stress and Anxiety, then well maybe there is something different going on and I hope it gets better for you. I mean I play video games to RELEASE Stress and Anxiety.
