Tall Tales Toxcicity and Ship Spawning Problems

  • Let me start by saying this; I've loved Sea of Thieves ever since it came out. I've been playing since about day one, and I've enjoyed every second my friends and I have had on the seas. The game itself wasn't very popular when it was first released, but recently, there has been an influx of players, new and old, sailing the seas. I never really had a problem with this. When I first got SoT, the islands and waters of the game were deserted; not a ship in sight. I was quite happy attention was being drawn to this awesome game, but deep down I knew that if more players swarmed to the servers, the game would be changed.

Anyways, with the recent update, I decided to get back into the action, and what better way to do this than a Tall Tale. So, this morning, I sailed my sloop towards the call of adventure. In about a thirty minute span, I had completed almost every step of "The Shroudbreaker" all by myself. I was feeling pretty proud. There was just one problem; all morning my luck was nowhere to be found. Every time I anchored at an island, skeletons blasted at my ship. Another time, I was carrying an Ancient Chest back to my ship when, suddenly, I was randomly despawned. But despite all this bad luck aside, I was having fun.

My last stroke of luck ran out when I reached the final destination of the quest. I was lucky enough (sarcasm...) to have been given the crab totem for my quest, which meant the cave I was looking for was underwater, at an unmarked island in N-13. Lovely. As soon as I neared the island, the trouble began. A one-man sloop, equipped with the Reaper's set, began circling me. I called out, but there was no response. Eventually he sailed far enough away from me, and so I went on my way to finish the quest. I did the puzzle room without any problems, and I was on the search for the third and final crab medallion when the real trouble began. While I was underground, depositing the second crab medallion, a two-man sloop had sunk my ship. Furious, I swam back to the surface, and killed both of them. I told them that what they did was pretty petty (but it is SoT, these things are supposed to happen). I went to their ship, in hopes of stealing a rowboat, and sinking them, but they killed me as soon as I stepped onboard.

What gets me is what happened after this. If you didn't already know, once your ship is sunk, it is respawned in a random part of the map. Only for me, when I respawned, my ship was being attacked by and extremely aggressive Megalodon, and when I finally loaded in, I was upside-down, and under water. After that, I was respawned at another random part of the map. It was at this point that I quit.

So basically, I guess I'm just asking for better spawn conditions. In my opinion, enemies shouldn't be able to spawn right next to a newly spawned ship. Additionally, It would be really nice if there was some sort of no-PvP zone around the quest areas. I get that this has been requested before, and I understand that Rare is trying to create unique experinces for it's players, and I think a great way to do this would be if multiple crews could work together without the threat of being back-stabbed. I'm positive that players would enjoy the Tall Tales a lot more if they knew that they could actually complete them.

With that being said, thanks for listening. I'll see you on the seas.

  • @dc061497 That's odd because Megs don't go near islands and haven't for some time. They only spawn in open waters and I know for respawning it doesn't dump you in the middle of the Ocean.

  • @jc-yukaze To be honest, I couldn't tell where the game had plopped me. When I loaded in, I was in the lower deck of my sloop, which was upside-down and under water. But I do know that I should have respawned next to an island. Perhaps the Meg was already there.
