Are hitboxes bugged on the ladder?

  • We had a player board our ship with a keg and then they proceeded to climb the ladder to our crows nest, so then me and a friend both shot the keg on his back while he was climbing up and we both got hit markers but it did not go off, is this a bug or something else?

  • @judgment88 The gunpowder's hitbox remains as if the barrel were still in front of the player while climbing a ladder. As far as the game is concerned, they are still holding the barrel in front of them as they climb.

  • I shot someone on the crows Nest ladder 4 times to prevent him taking our keg and blow it up.

    He didnt die.
Was a little bit frustrating, but we managed it in the end.

Hit registration is weird sometimes, but i dont know if it is a bug.

@Kat-Truewalkerr recently posted/quoted something about combat where they said it should feel and simulate the lack of accuracy of the fireweapons of the age of sails and all that.
Also to overcome a powergap between console and PC.
They didn't want to develop a first Person Shooter thing, but a fun game where sometimes bad luck and rng etc. let you loose control.

  • @judgment88 What gun were you using? It takes a few shots from the blunderbuss to set off the keg unless you are right next to it.

  • I think there may be. My crew mate shot my barrel twice yesterday while I was climbing the ladder to the crows next, and it didn't explode. He doesn't miss. So there may well be a bug?!?

  • Yes, hitboxes are bugged on ladders. Yesterday I was hanging on another Galleon's ladder, got shot in the face with a Blunderbuss and took no damage, the shot only knocked me off.

  • @ghostpaw Eye of Reach

  • @judgment88 That should certainly have set it off.

  • @judgment88 Hitboxes aren't bugged, it's the hitmarkers themselves that are wonky; granted, kegs don't give off hitmarkers when shot like players, but it's the same principle.

You see, hitmarkers are registered on the client side, meaning that if you shoot someone, you may get a hitmarker even though the server didn't register it. This is especially common when playing with bad internet or on foreign servers and it constantly works against you. Much like Battlefield One, the game forces you to lead your shots more just to hit someone on the server side.

There have been both times where I definitely have hit someone and definitely have not hit someone but they will either walk away unscaved or die a metre from where I was aiming. Similarly, it's quite easy to tell if I'm not on Oceanic servers (which is 99% percent of the time) because I'll literally watch a bullet be shot where I was standing a second ago, and mysteriously die behind a wall.

    Hope this helped :)

  • @spunkus-skunkus It was helpful in regards to hit markers. I'll have to adjust my play style to take this into account.
