Got an SSD, and OMG!

  • I can load back in from the ferry in less than a second once the door opens! The advantage it provides is staggering! The game runs so much smoother/faster, tools and weapons get drawn out quicker, rendering is perfect and gorgeous with virtually no artifacts... I could go on!

Used with an XB1X and 4K HDR TV.

  • @galactic-geek Yeah! SSDs are a gift from Merrick!

  • I'm hella confused, what's an SSD? lol

  • @xix-zeno-xix o.O

    You poor lost soul...

  • @xix-zeno-xix a solid state drive, which is a replacement for a hard drive with faster read and write speeds making it ideal to boost loading speeds

I'm not really sure if that is true...friends tried this also...the loading at the start was faster, yes, but the mermaid- and ferry loading was just the same...same as the microlags, didn't change anything because it seems like this is all happening from the serverside...

I can confirm what @galactic-geek said. Initial load to main menu is 25 seconds, and used to be about 90 seconds. From 'set sail' to tavern is about 15 seconds, used to be at least 60 seconds. All other black screens are 5 seconds max, and they used to be anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 seconds. The only time its not instant is if you blackscreen after losing your ship, you are black screened until it finishes sinking and despawns. I have ship mates tell me when it despawns, and i respawn as they are talking.

Its a huge advantage, especially if you can respawn 20 seconds faster during pvp, while your hdd enemy is loading. Basically game over if you have 4 competent ssd players vs 4 competent hdd players.

Rare should really address this imbalance. Off the top of my head, i can't think of any other game with unintentional varying spawn timers.

  • Using X1X and Samsung T5 the difference is amazing. Best investment for this game improving load in and respawn times by A LOT! Can confirm!

  • Use only solid states in all by devices. My PC has a stack of them. Difference is like driving a Ford Granada or a Porsche 911. :)

  • @schwammlgott true for me for the most part. Mermaids and ferry are usually instant. There is the odd time where I get the spinning wheel, though.

Fake news. You're not loading back in 1 second, lol. You've exaggerated a bit bud. Post a video or it's not happening :). I run a i9 9900k with a M.2 Samsung 970 Pro. My rig eats your xbox like it's a Scooby Snack, and while I load back faster than anyone I have ever played with, it's still mostly about a 5-20 second wait time depending on whether you lost your ship or not.

Having said that, the SSD or M.2 is going to help over a spinning disk for sure. When looking at going from an SSD to an M.2, the difference is within about a second (even though by specs the M.2 is like light-speed compared to SSD), that's when you are getting more into processing power as your bottleneck though.

Samsung T5? We are brothers in arms! 😄

I knew the loading times of my games would get better, but I had no idea it would help speed up inputs, animations, draw distance rendering, etc. I've also tested it with Minecraft, PUBG, Halo 5, Battlefield V, Grand Theft Auto 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, Rocket League, World of Tanks, and more, and all have seen improvements in at least 1 way or another - for example, when spawning into a lobby for PUBG or WoT, I'm always the 1st to load in. Now all I need is good Internet... 😅

  • I take pride in my original Xbox One Horse n’ Buggy. Those long load times remind me that just because the game isn’t fair and balanced towards all players, it is still a good game.

crouches behind object cringing in anticipation of tomatoes being thrown

  • The only downside to an SSD is the price-to-storage ratio is almost always worse than a HDD - that is to say, you're paying more for less storage.

  • lol@fake news.

I don't care how many 9s your PC has or what it eats, I know what i am seeing on my screen! :-P

  • @sexyjeep lol ok... my pc has GTX 1070 with i7 and I load like consistently 5 secs max from respawning and mermaid, also no need to boast about your pc like it makes you cool lol "eats your Xbox like it's a Scooby Snack" 🙄

  • @a-double-deagle So let's review some facts...

Fact: You're not loading back in less than one second from the Ferry, and neither is the guy who created this thread.

Fact: You're also not loading back within 5 seconds "max" when respawning from the Ferry. There are circumstances (like when you're on the Ferry while your boat is sinking) that will delay you in upwards of 20 seconds until the boat can respawn into the world first. Additionally, they have had loading issues from both the Ferry and mermaid that have been made known publicly for a long while now (PC and Xbox).

Fact: You are correct about spawning back within 5 seconds consistently from the mermaid, but that was not what this thread was about. Thanks for randomly throwing that in there though to try and distort and divert the conversation from its original purpose. Fail.

Fact: Any reasonably custom built PC and/or retail purchased "gaming PC" is going to beat any xbox in Graphics, Performance, and speed. My comment regarding my PC eating his xbox like a Scooby Snack is a fair analogy to prove my point regarding how even the fastest gaming PC's don't even load back within a second from the Ferry.

Fact: I have still not seen the creator of this thread post a video proving that they always load back within a second from the Ferry. Therefore, his claim is still Fake News and anyone who has spent a great deal of time in this game would know that. Newer and not as observant players should not be reading this post and upgrading to an SSD in hope of loading back within a second from the Ferry because that will not happen. Will they most often load back within 20 seconds under most circumstances, yes.

  • @sexyjeep obviously he won't upload video proof because it's blatantly exaggeration, you can never have guaranteed one-second loading. Also, the original post never specified the type of loading. Obviously, it will take longer to load into the game, than to respawn from death, so my comment was not irrelevant. And I never even said that I can load in one second, that was the original creator of this post, so idk where your first fact came from. the irrelevant part is when you randomly threw in your pc specs to show you are some kind of pc lord above all of the console peasants in a thread talking about SSD's making your game run faster... there is no point of saying that you pc eats Xbox like a scooby snack lol

    sigh This again.

Okay first off to point out the blatant obvious discussions players are going to have in the beginning.

SSD has no significant advantage over HDD. The only thing that it has a clear advantage is going from "set sail" to loading into the game. Other than that all other timers have been balanced server side.

SSD - When you die, you load into the ferry usually within 3 to 5 seconds. HDD - You load into the ferry usually within 10 to 15 seconds.

A lot of you believe that when you load into the ferry, that means you get to respawn faster. This is false. The respawn timer starts when your characters HP reaches 0.

SSD - Loads into the ferry in 5 seconds, takes 20 seconds for the ferry door to open. Total time spent, 25 seconds.

HDD - Loads into the ferry in 15 seconds, takes 10 seconds for ferry door to open. Total time spent, 25 seconds.

Does not matter whether you have SSD or HDD for respawn timers.

Next mermaids and loading FROM the ferry to the ship.

Computers and consoles both go through longer than usual load times from time to time.

However if everything is optimal than the load times from mermaids and ferry to ship are about exactly the same, give or take a half second or full second. Sometimes differences can be as much as 2 seconds but again there is not definitive way to say if its hardware or server that is causing this.

SO AGAIN - There is no clear advantage to have SSD over HDD besides the time it takes to load into the game at the start of your session. Thats it.

@Galactic-Geek I would also have to call shenanigans on you my friend :). Not saying you probably arent really happy with your new purchase because I know you've been on the fence of wanting to upgrade the drive.

My PC is significantly more powerful than your xbox and even I don't load in at less than 1 second :).

I'm glad you are happy with your upgrade though man. It'll help game loading times in your others games when you are going from loading screen to loading screen. Almost instant practically.

Good luck man and have fun :)

  • @xultanis-dragon 9 times out of 10 there is no loading when leaving ferry and mermaid with an xbox x and ssd. No shenanigans.

Yes the tests i have done say the same thing but sometimes my console will load faster than my pc sometimes my xbox will but only by a second if that. My pc has a i9 and a 2080 with SoT on a ssd and my console is a one s and no ssd. No way load times off the ferry are faster this is 100% false. No way a ssd would make you load faster than my pc with a ssd as it would if you load faster with a ssd over hdd on xbox. That would definitely make it faster than my pc with a ssd vs xbox with ssd.

  • @xultanis-dragon
Dude, my black screen load times are all less than 5 seconds with ssd, they were all much longer on hdd. I dont really care what you personally experience, i have been consistently 'back' in 5 seconds, instead of listening to audio on blackscreen for 15-30 seconds.

I also understand how the ferry timer works. Explain the following: I die, using hdd, and after a long blackscreen, spawn onto the ferry with the door ALREADY OPEN. HDD does affect the ferry, thats a bonus 5 seconds right there. You can add another 10 second SSD advantage to the 'leaving the ferry' blackscreen. 5 seconds max with SSD, 15 to 20 on hdd. And thats not a sinking timer, its normal operations.
Like @MarsMayflower just said, the majority of my blackscreens are instant...not even long enough for the loading wheel to pop up.

    @SexyJeep
You got all that fancy stuff for your PC and you still get 5-20 seconds of load time? Lol, my Xbox is 5 seconds or less.

Let me guess, you were using an XBoX One Original right? Which has been confirmed by the community already as being the only console that has significant load issues with the game. At that point its more about hardware of the console than it is about the capabilities of the drive.

Xbox One X has an hdd and load times are nearly as fast as anyone with an SSD. Same with the XBoX One S.

Xbox One original is the only time anyone would have any severe load times.

Its not "personal" experience. I spent a whole week joining different crews on Discord and LFG as well as my crew mates. Timing all your respawns as well as mine. Its BEEN TESTED.

SSD's only really help with load times when you start the game. Everything else is about the same across the board give or take whatever the hell is going on with your internet or how long it takes for the games servers to decide where to load you into the ship.

  • @sexyjeep okay?

  • All of you take these things way too...

    ...seriously. 🙄

OMG! A lag delay! Oh, no! Whatever shall I do?! 😱

This thread was about far more than just load times, people. Such 1-track minds... 😐

  • Well lets see the video of ssd vs hdd because it's not real why are you guys misleading the community? Honestly it's been tested and you guys are wrong and it's why none of you have yet to post a video of this but you would probably just poorly edit it to try and fool people lol

Its in every game and it works fine thats life you want better you pay.

    @Crimsonraziel 🤣

@muffinstuffingu I don't have to post video, because it has already been done by others. Seeing video of the difference in loading times on a side-by-side comparison with SoT and many other video games was a chief reason why I considered the purchase at all. Granted, I can't tell you if the video I saw was legit or fake news, but it doesn't really matter, because I'm seeing the difference with my own eyes and hearing the feedback of the difference from my own friends and am absolutely happy with my purchase. If you want to see a video as proof, you're more than welcome to look it up and share it yourself.
