  • We already have a dodge mechanic, and it works well enough I feel. A straight up roll might be too much, and depending on the distance and animation, might be confusing visually in the heat of battle.

The parry thing sounds interesting though. Only concern might be that it'd prolong combat too much, or interfere in fights with more than 2 people.
But it's somethin' I'd be willing to try out.

    What dodge mechanic?

  • @trenix90 Equip cutlass, block, press the jump button whilst going left or right. You dodge.

That's not a dodge mechanic. That's simply you walking around and jumping.

  • @trenix90 It's a seperate mechanic, you can see it in action here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKnyNSRCifM
Skip to about 40 seconds in, and maybe slow it down if it's hard to see.

Heh, you're right. Out of all the time that I've ever played, I never knew this. Must be a new feature since I've last played. Still I feel like the dodge roll could still fit in, even with dodge already being in the game.

  • @trenix90
It's been in the game since launch

Well the game sure needs to better explain how things work.

  • Did you also know that there was also a counter-attack? Sadly, it was inadvertantly removed as part of the double-gun exploit fix. All you had to do was draw your firearm while blocking with your sword - this would quickdraw the firearm and ADS, allowing you to quickly shoot (particularly useful as a punish after successfully blocking a failed attack - it was balanced too, since unlike the DGE, it was only 1 shot and required the sword). Sadly, now if you try it, you get the slow draw animation instead.

BTW, that dodge lets you pass through an opposing pirate.

  • @trenix90
Yeah, this game does need some kind of tutorial(not just showing where the companies are and to eat a banana)

  • @blazedrake100 A big part of the game's appeal is through exploration and discovery, so get out there! Do things!

  • @trenix90 dude that sounds like it'd be fun to try out. Maybe also just allow us to be able to instantly pull up the block mechanic so skellys that interrupt your 3 sword swipe combo dont have such an easy time hitting us, or just make the skellys NOT be able to do that, I know that you can just jump over them a bunch to reduce damage to yourself but I'd like to be able to successfully block a skelly at least. :)

  • @galactic-geek
But people should know from the start basic game mechanics. Stuff like dolphin diving should be discovered, but not basic mechanics like sword lunging in general.

  • I honestly would appreciate a roll mechanic as well.

  • @blazedrake100 a diving mechanic would help if it could get you deep enough and fast enough for sunken ships that are super far under the ocean, or anything else like mermaid statues, other loot, etc. :)

  • @xix-zeno-xix
Dolphin diving is a technique with the sword lunge that helps you travel through water

  • THIS is Dolphin Diving :D

  • I personally don't like the idea of, "dolphin diving". It looks and feels unintentional and unpolished. I've had my fair share of games where people find exploits and use them to their advantage. For example, Conan Exiles had similar problems or Chivalry. Those who played the game normally, were always at an advantage, so eventually everyone had to do the same exploits in order to remain relevant. If you're going to add a mechanic, then officially add it.

Don't let your players exploit mechanics. The same people that exploit this, whether you guys care or not, are the same ones that hide their chests and do other game breaking exploits once they arise. You guys shouldn't cultivate that type of community.

It is very much a dodge mechanic and it's been there since launch.

I'm completely behind a double knockback when two swords clash though. The game needs this way more than the missed swing delay.

  • @trenix90
Rare has confirmed that they're keeping it.

  • @triheadedmonkey You think THAT'S a Dolphin Dive?! HOLD MY PIRATE LEGEND MUG!

  • @zaannox how do u do that? Or is that not real? Lol twas funny tho 😂

I understand that and believe that's definitely the wrong decision. I explained why above.

  • @xix-zeno-xix It's a dock glitch, kind of hard to explain over text.

  • @zaannox ah, gotcha.

This is something I'd like to see added, imagine watching pirates diving off cliffs and waterfalls into the sea below? Definitely useful to get a bit more impetus for those deep wrecks too.
