I'm not really a fan, kind of ruins any form of sneak style play (I'm aware this isn't a Ninja Game). If anything, this just encourages more sink on sight.
Why would I bother trying to break in, when I could just sink you. This would even affect the whole "I don't even have loot" crowd. Someone could at least investigate the ship.
Exactly, pirates aren't ninjas, they attack head-on. I don't mind, go sink on sight. Sinking is far harder than just destroying a door and stealing loot. Yet if that is what you want, go for it. We need more naval battles anyway. This is a PvP game, PvP players should be at a loss if the ship they sunk has nothing. PvP has risk and reward, makes sense. Why a player can just sneak on a ship and steal loot without being noticed with doors that don't even work, is beyond me. Be more pirate.
Also people sink on sight anyway. Usually when you want someone's loot, you're going to sink them above all else.

Right now, its up to the crew to make sure their loot is secure. If player can't do the simple act of guarding their own ship, they lost their rights to secure loot. The kind of people who need this, are the kind of people who refuse/can't guard their own ship. They desire the game to remedy their own shortcomings. Obviously not all, but you get the same kind of people who want retractable ladders.
Loot is never secure. I've seen people using exploits to hide their loot because of this. Also I played since the very beginning and did many crazy things in this game as a PvP player. Like for example, sneaking on ships and throwing their loot off the ship one by one so no one got the loot. Being a pest in the game is very easy and a big part of it is because of incomplete or lacking mechanics within the game. The lack of functional doors, is one of them.
