So I have this Jail Cell...

  • I recently started playing SOT. My observations are that there is the potential for a great game here, but right now we're playing an expensive Beta. Islands are void of life. Seas are too. Where are the dolphins riding next to my ship? Where are the mermaids (more on that in a bit) After a year you guys still only have 3 quests. How about a quests that involve multiple parties. Quests that have you escort other ships or attack certain ships. Temple quests. Mermaid quests where you have to find pockets of air and follow mermaids back to their lair.

Let's talk gameplay. Rare is the company that invented the console FPS. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, you're pros, but the game controls in this game leave a lot to be desired. Guns don't kill at point blank sword attacks are cubersome and movement is slow and awkward. I understand that this isn't a fast pace fps, but fighting other pirates is frustrating at best and let's talk about those other pirates. I get trolling. I have no problem losing my ship or treasure to a better player. I get it and it can be fun. I don't mind players that sneak on my ship and hide. However I hate when I'm killed and then spawn camped so I can't do anything. You gave my ship a jail cell... LET ME USE IT. I don't want to lock up my crew! I want to lock up the guy sleeping by my map table that I caught, but since I can't do that I'll shoot him while he's laying down point blank with the blunderbuss. Oh that didn't kill him. Now he's up. I'm dead because he hit me with a sword. So is my teammate and now he's just spawn camping us and all we can do is wait till we can sink the ship or respawn. Let's fix that if I find you I should be able to lock you up. You want out of the cell you have to boot out. That's what my crew members have to do if I don't vote them out. Better yet. They get tarred and feathered and shot into a cannon. It's humiliating. They can't fight back but they really haven't lost anything but time.

I know I sound like I'm ranting, but that's only because I believe in this game. There are great moments in SOT. Epic unscripted events that I have gotten to share with my xbox and pc gamer friends and those moments are some of the best in any gaming experience, but they're few and far between the mindless quests, trolls, and mediocre gameplay.

  • Man I totally agree, it's a pirate game based of a sea game play. Let's add sea life! Sea quest, sea temple, sea city (such as minecraft haha)

Let's use the cell as a pirate would do, let's feel the reward a pirate would feel finding treasure, let's find pet that would give you bananas, add the customization level of your ship to next level! (I would love creating my own sail)

    Luv man

  • did u not notice any of the stuff the added to the game in the last year? meg skeleships cursed cannonballs a new region to the map?
you say u want a great fps game but want a mechanic that means you dont have to fight because u cant shoot someone sleeping? did u not think after missing ur shot to pull out ur sword? did u not think of next time using ur sword to kill someone u find sleeping?

I can send you footage of bullets traveling through players and not registering a hit. Then they sword stun me and I cant do anything EVEN THOUGH I had the element of surprise.

The other day I lead a Pirate with a pistol shot and it literally went through his stomach not registering a hit. His buddies all shot me as I was jumping though.

The dudes right. Rare isnt new to this FPS. The game is appealin cause its Pirates! And theres nothing else like it. But theres a lot to be desired in this game. The fact they lost half their base in the first year is more than enough evidence that were not the only ones that feel theres more to be desired. And if Rare doesnt do something to fix it, the game will end up like Toys R Us.

No I just started the game. What did that add? The regions look different but come on they still have no life on them. It's still the same 3 type of npc on every island. As far as fighting, I'm not saying I'm a good player but if I can win at apex, I should be able to kill another player in this game, The controls are just horrible. Lunge when you don't want to. aiming is a joke. Bullets pass through players. Also, why bring a sword to a gun fight? Why get close enough to let them kill you? At least that's what I thought until I played this.

  • @shieldwolf to be honest this post is a mess pick 1 point and argue the 1 point, is this post about the lack of content added or is this a post about hit registration or is it a suggestion for the prison, pick 1 point make a post otherwise u get 100 ppl having 5 different conversations in 1 thread..

the prison is still a terrible idea, if someones trying to steal ur stuff its upto u to defend it not RARE.
content will be added people are making suggestions everyday for new content in a much much better way then this post does, RARE is not god there gonna need time
sure hit registration can be messed up sometimes and the sword might be too powerfull at the moment but again in a post like yours it just comes across as whining cause u died, maybe make 1 post titled weapon balancing and focus on that 1 point

  • I'd love it if we could tie up enemies on our ship somehow and shoot them out of a cannon. They'd have to mash their controller to break free of the ropes before they sank and drowned.

  • @Shieldwolf All I can see is another blablabla rare fix the game thread.. seriously whats up with that. Stop being salty and enjoy the game as is. If u havent got a clue how long it takes to put stuff together in this game or adding new features thrn plz refrain from the jibberish and play the game or dont. You are a new player and u havent seen basically anything of what the devs have put out year 1.

  • @captmcmonkey,
I'm not enjoying the game as it is and that's the problem and that's exactly what this forum was designed for. I'm not being salty. I'm trying to get people talking about the game and how to make it better.
How about "countries" that players and islands are associated with. You steal from a location and you become wanted by that "countries" NPC ships and players associated with those islands. How about more Rumor Quests. I think they did these as timed events but I never saw them. Follow a rumor similar to riddles but they lead you to fight the white whale or other mythical monster or a lost island or fort that you can claim as your own.

Right now the game has no progress. You don't become better. You don't further a story. That works fine in a battle royale game, but this is a progess quest game. You're trying to become a legendary pirate, but besides the grind what are you doing? The adventure/ story side is less devloped to say the least.
I decided I would try the insider build to see what they were adding ... I just don't think Rare understands their own game. Fixing the ship is not fun, it's a juggling act of crew interaction, necessary, but let's not make it more complicated now everything can break.
New food items. I'm guessing for quests okay sure but not necessary.
Hey we can cook food! Oh, like overcooked? No you just throw it on the pan and wait for it to stop saying raw, but why cook at all? I'll just eat a banana.
Now I can get seasick. Okay. I'm not 10 and maybe that's my problem, but throwing up in the game, while funny is not something I want to happen everytime I get on a ship.

I have this cute monkey and parrot. Finally, some life on the island. Oh look they come with me. They dance when I play music, but do they do anyting? I don't know yet, but let's make them part of the crew. Have them help you when you're close to treasure or when an emeny is on your ship. As it is now they only serve in confusing me when I'm playing and see a name pop up and think that's my crewmate only to find out oh wait that's a parrot and my crewmate is dead or still on the island. There is definite potential with those. Just need some re-tooling.

The star map from the trailer looks cute/cool but I suspect it will be similar to finding hidden chests on and island. Where is that star in the sea. BOOBYTRAP TEMPLES TO EXPLORE!!!! Awesome, but again reading how they supposedly work sounds less interesting.

I'm glad they're working on the game and I hope that these new adds will add life to SOT. The thing is as dull as Sea of Thieves is at least it not overly complicated or convuluted. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for adding more features and game mechanics if they build upon the base game and increase the fun, but from what I've seen so far what they are adding doesn't solve the base problem it just adds stuff for the sake of adding stuff. Still I will be there on April 30th to give it a spin and I wish them the best.

Also I find it funny I can use the word B-trap because of the auto filters. I understand keeping things clean but you have a game about pirates with players trolling each other just saying.

  • Remember the original trailer like the sneak peek one, where they showed someone walking the plank and there were sharks swimming around in a circle in the water waiting for that person to walk the plank. I always thought that was going to be an option if there was mutiny. Never seen it applied.
