Gunpowder skelly spawn rate

  • So Ive noticed recently that the spawn rate for gunpowder holding skellys seems to have increased dramatically. With a minimum of 2 spawning near the player very frequently whenever on an island.

I'm wondering what people's opinions are on this.

Personally, I found it fun at first, and it can still be amusing to watch a team mate sprint past being followed by the GP Skellys while shouting "oh ****, RUUUUUUNNNNN".

However, when it seems every time you pause on an island and 90% of your time is spent running around as fast as you can so you don't die from GP skellys, instead of being able to appreciate the graphics work and explore and enjoy the islands and the various features and so on.

So to sum up, I like GP skellys, they add a fun dynamic and challenge. I just personally dislike as I said spending the majority of my time blindly sprinting to not get blown up every couple of minutes.

What do you scurvy swashbucklers think?

  • @japollo-93 yes, recent increase in frequency. What terrifies me are the ones imitating bony football running backs zig zagging towards you as you're trying to shoot out their knobby knees

  • I definitely think they should reduce the frequency. I enjoy the endless supply of GP. However, I would like to explore the island without feeling like an NFL running. I do have some lit jukes tho...

  • This is one of my biggest complaints right now. If you are in a sloop and hitting a fort, the barrel skeletons make it near impossible. Both people blow up, the cannons respawn, and you're done after exhausting your planks. There's is a lot of new things to enjoy in this game but there are a ton of things that have just about ruined the game for me.

  • Please reduce gunpowder skelly spawns...

  • I think they work... You're supposed to be on your toes, not leisurely strolling a tropical island, right?

Personally, I feel I only encounter them every few islands. More often only one than multiples, depending on how long I spend on the island. The second one usually surprises me.

Maybe they can make a "safe islands" option for the PVE servers they're adding for you guys. Heh

  • @corvum-mortis I don't agree. I think players should not be on their toes when walking on islands. Before the gunpowder skellies existed it was possible to "leasurely stroll on a tropical island", which was a nice, calm and relaxing experience. Players should ofcourse be on their toes for other players's ships and very rarely (gunpowder) skeletons. But not at this frequency. It should be a rare encounter. Just like the kraken and megalodon should be legendary encounters. But because there isn't that much random encounters in the game (yet) Rare throws these encounters at you constantly for the sake of keeping you busy.

Not saying gunpowder skellies should be as legendary as an encounter as the legendary sea creatures, but they should add more random encounters so that they dont force the gunpowder skellies down your throat. Imagine a random encounter where you hear 2 npc pirates whispering to eachother and hiding their treasure or something like that. Or any other random encounter for that matter! This was just an example.

The game isn't about action 24/7. I'd like to enjoy the scenery, graphics and calmness sometimes. The anniversary update brings fishing. It would be nice to know that I can sometimes relax and just fish on an island. It's not gonna be possible with the current state of things.

  • @yokomoko sagte in Gunpowder skelly spawn rate:

This is one of my biggest complaints right now. If you are in a sloop and hitting a fort, the barrel skeletons make it near impossible. -Park your ship in a dead spot, so skellies can't shoot your ship
-guide the skellies to the water, swim a few meters away, and when they're all together shot em to blow almost everone up

  • @japollo-93 I'm almost fine with the spawnrate, just when doing an athena they could reduce it slightly...on these voyages there are definitly too much of them

  • My observation are it's not allways, bit from time to time.
I had islands where they spawned endlessly and some where they spawned rare.
If they spawn endlessly it becomes annoying, especially if you cant find what you are searching for.

  • @davidbarlow I just don't encounter them at the frequency you do, I guess. If I'm not in DR, I often will sit in the little sauna ponds, or watch the sunset next to a nice waterfall... So, I don't get it.

Honestly, being afk on an island is the only time this is a nuisance.

  • @corvum-mortis Well especially when you're questing, DR or not, the frequency rises by a lot. But even sitting in a sauna ponds or w/e wont go uninterrupted. What if I wanna fish on an island for 15 minutes undisturbed?

  • @corvum-mortis its something you may not notice like myself early on the game was being patched as i was leveling up and the skeletons kept getting strong and stronger, doing more damage, having more health. I thought oh they are just increasing the difficulty because the game was too easy at launch. But no they actually scale by the rank of the voyage you are on. And in a Developer stream a while back they had thrown down and athena and one of the Devs asked if they could cancel it to chill on all the gunpowder skeleton spawns. Not that keg skeletons only spawn on athenas because obviously thats not the case but it does increase the spawn by a huge amount. The only plus side to that is athena skeletons dont spawn with guns while gold hoarder ones do.

  • Lol... You're arguing that during the most difficult quest series of the game (and most profitable)... It's too difficult.

If you want an easier time... Go to shores of plenty. Falls in line with PVE servers, imo.

    Meh

  • @magus104

That seems pretty damn fair to increase difficulty of enemies with increased rank. Most games do that.

  • At least its not at the frequency of when they first came out, literally had parties on the ferry since everyone was spending lots of time there.

I actually like the spawn rate they're at currently as I use them to my advantage often. I also don't have too much issue running quick and then turning around and blasting them. Usually takes out the rest chasing me at that point. I will say with the bit of nerfing the EOR took, it does make it a little harder these days but still manageable i think.

  • @muzackmann I agree with you. I feel they actually make most oos voyages easier... And I love running away, hopping up on a rock and blasting it while it's surrounded by others. Huge explosion of bones...
