Streamer mode expansion.

  • The problem

So being a streamer, I have run into the "mass spam" problem that occurs when people see other players names that I encounter. Not only those I meet on the seas, but also my crew members.

I realise there is a streamer mode in place at the moment, and I also know that changes will be made soon to include blocking crew members names on top of that. But this also brings with it other problems.

The first being that when anyone uses the chat wheel for communication because they don't have a mic, or cannot hear you, their name is displayed for all to see, which then defeats the purpose of streamer mode entirely.

The second problem is, having streamer mode on puts the streamer at a disadvantage as they don't get the trusty nickname pop-up to give them an early indication that someone is approaching or boarding, or being able to spot crew on the deck of a ship.

    My idea for streamer mode

When streamer mode is enabled, everyones nicknames is replaced with a coloured skull that signifies whether they are from your crew or not (green for crew mates. white for other crews). This is also evident in the chat commands at the top of the screen as seen in the screenshot below.

I've seen some other ideas thrown around, such as assigning random pirate names, or replacing pirate name with "********". But I think this idea not only tackles the problem, but fits in with the aesthetics of the game.

    That's it from me.

    Happy Sailing!

  • Yo Falcore why not turn off HUD, it would add to immersion

  • @captain-faicore I would hope it keeps equipped titles however.

  • @grindtony45 Because if a player is trying to communicate with me via typing or chat wheel, I cannot see them.

  • @captain-faicore Agreed, its a simple solution for a simple problem, i honestly have no idea how the devs missed this when they implemented streamer mode

  • @boltingcrayon35 I don't think they "missed" it. I guess it was just a quick fix to keep us streamers happy for now, i'm sure they're working on better ways for the future.

  • @captain-faicore I had the same notion - put the Reaper’s Mark symbol (it being the SoT logo) above the heads in green or white. You can do the same with the chat wheel/text messages.

  • Love your channel captain❤️

  • @captain-faicore perhaps they’ll try this idea. Hope you make the next lore vid soon

  • I think a randomly generated pirate name would be the best option if it was possible for Rare, just because you could easily tell which pirate was typing in the chat, and it would be the most visually consistent experience to regular players who aren't using streamer mode. I don't know if they can do this though, so icons would definitely be a good second option. I think the pirate "sign-in" icon that this forum uses would be a more fitting icon than the Reaper's Mark, but the icon itself doesn't actually matter too much, as long as there's a clear identifier for pirates. :) alt text

  • This is a great idea, you could also choose between different logo and colors taht would be awesome if we could change the colours of name to fit our preferences.

@Captain FaIcore I love your channel and Larry! Always funny to have a chicken companion :P
and your speculation on the lores of island.

Hope to see you on the seas! Have fun.

  • I like your idea Cap. "Faicore".

  • @captain-faicore when's the next video about Larry the legend

  • @captain-faicore I like it, I honestly expected names to have a big white block or something because it does put you at a disadvantage when fighting enemies.

Another solution could have been naming our own pirates that isn't our GT

PS Anyone else catch that in the last Dev stream the new guy didn't have names turned off? LOL

  • @captain-faicore hey!
I do agree on this, there should be something. This streamers tool wasn't think we'll enough.

At least something should remains above the player, perhaps his Pirate Tittle, or some sort of icon like you said.

That on matters of text Chat is a bit more tricky.. what could be made to detect who texted what? 🤔
