The problem
So being a streamer, I have run into the "mass spam" problem that occurs when people see other players names that I encounter. Not only those I meet on the seas, but also my crew members.
I realise there is a streamer mode in place at the moment, and I also know that changes will be made soon to include blocking crew members names on top of that. But this also brings with it other problems.
The first being that when anyone uses the chat wheel for communication because they don't have a mic, or cannot hear you, their name is displayed for all to see, which then defeats the purpose of streamer mode entirely.
The second problem is, having streamer mode on puts the streamer at a disadvantage as they don't get the trusty nickname pop-up to give them an early indication that someone is approaching or boarding, or being able to spot crew on the deck of a ship.
My idea for streamer mode
When streamer mode is enabled, everyones nicknames is replaced with a coloured skull that signifies whether they are from your crew or not (green for crew mates. white for other crews). This is also evident in the chat commands at the top of the screen as seen in the screenshot below.
I've seen some other ideas thrown around, such as assigning random pirate names, or replacing pirate name with "********". But I think this idea not only tackles the problem, but fits in with the aesthetics of the game.
That's it from me.
Happy Sailing!
