As much as I'm trying to enjoy this game, one of my biggest gripes I have with the map, is the fact that you really dont feel like you're ever in open water. I would personally love to see a much bigger map, maybe tailored more towards brigs and galleons, where the distance between islands is MUCH larger. That way, it really does feel like you're sailing in open ocean...
It the ocean graphics are some of my favorite things about this game, and of the things they REALLY got right with the game over all. And there is really nothing more exciting than sailing long distances and seeing nothing but wide open ocean with maybe a couple large islands on the horizon.
So basically, I propose a new section of the map. Make the current areas an island chain of some sort, then increase the size of the map to include a vast open ocean, dotted around with large islands that hold more treasure and more enemies. This could also open the possibility for even larger ships, like frigates or 3rd rates, requiring more crew and supplies. Those larger ships would be more meant for the larger map areas, and would require a very good captain to navigate the smaller areas of the map.
Another great thing this could do, would allow the current map to be tailored more towards newer players. Have them spawn in an area with less enemies, calmer seas, and less pve spawns. It would allow for new players, or solo captains, to be able to take it easier and relax, with new players also having a chance to learn the game better without having to worry about getting destroyed by the kraken on their first spawn into the game... (cause THAT happened to me on the first time I ever spawned in... and it was not fun, at all)
This also might draw in the more realistic crowd of players that prefer much more open water sailing. I've heard from a few people I've spoken to, that one of the reasons they left the game, is the fact that no matter what, it always felt like you were within 500 yards of multiple islands at all times. It just didn't feel right to them.
Anyway, thats my idea. What do you all think? Yay? Nay? Arrrr!?
