The worst update yet

  • I get why they had to do something with the double gun ''issue'', but destroying the pistol and the EoR completely, while buffing the sword make no sense at all.

The draw emotion makes the game feel clunky, and it makes no sense what so ever, that after sprinting and you take your gun out you still gets the draw emote. It feels like the games lags.
Both guns have now lost its knokback only buffing the sword even more.
And sword fights is just, the one who swing first wins. There is no skill what so ever in the sword combat. If we were able to block all the time, and not stand and wait until the ememy have finished his 3 swings, it would make a lot more sense. Also without the knockback form the pistol, makes the pistol more or less useless in a ship fight. You shoot and sprint to dodge the sword, but the enemy can keep swining and lose the gap fast while you have to reloade/do the draw emotion standing completely still.

I get that they dont want the EoR to be a close combat weapon, but the hipfire accuracy is so bad that you dont even hit a target thats right in front of you. Also i dont even see a situation where the EoR should be used. Yes you can snipe an enemy if you are chasing a ship, but why? You dont kill them anyway, if you are so close that you can board the ship, why not just board? And if you are not close enough, it dosent really make any difference anyway? The enemy eats 2 banans and he is at full health. And even if you manage to kill him, he will properly respawn before you got close enough to board.

I think this update is the worst they have ever made, even worse than the Sunken Curse. And im losing faith in Rare even knows how to balance the game properly. All they had to do was add a draw emotion when you switch weapons, add some hipfire inaccuracy and maybe buff the sword a bit, like they did now. This update just feels rushed and not tested at all. And the timing couldn't be worse, with the game getting a lot of attention recently.

Ahoy there and thanks for posting your feedback around the recent changes, I wonder if you've had a chance to read Mike's post detailing the design ideas behind this first set of combat tweaks, he does say that this will be an ongoing process and is something which has also been tested with the Pioneer group for some time.

  • On their dev updates Joe Neate has stated that each weapon has a place and purpose, having the Eye of reach as an imprompto shotgun would have it take the place of the shotgun in stead, same with the knockback, that's the blunderbuss's role.

I don't agree with you, this update fixed plenty of what's was wrong with combat. And maybe we'll see some more tweaks but I'm thinking the majority of the issues a lot of the vocal people have is because they were using the weapons outside of their intended perposes and are now angry that their tactics don't work. I can't really feel sorry for those people.

Eye of Reach is meant to be used at long range, not when you're at close range, that's the blunderbuss and the Cutlass's place.

As for testing, you're an insider so sighn up for testing and give them feedback. People have tested and given feedback (and if they haven't why did they test) and Rare has released the patch on that feedback.

@KattTruewalker You're the best pirate I know :-P You stole part of my reaction and my first comment spot ^_^

  • Their is much good out of this update, however their is some that I find could be adjusted. Knock-back on the Eye of Reach and Pistol was just out of place and kind of annoying when combo-ing sword with Rifle. However, blunderbuss could still use some love. This weapon is still below par when compared to the other weapons.

I don't really agree with the Kraken changes, removing things that provide a challenge to long term players. This pains me as a launch day player. No PvP threat is an actual challenge in this game. I would personally hope they change the sprint to draw animation because they delay in firing from that feels just clunky. That and it isn't switching from weapon to weapon. Sword remains fine so I would hope this changes. If I am sprinting with something, I'm not gonna holster it then run, I would just carry it while running.

This update isn't perfect, but to say its the worst? Far from the truth, this comes off as being a drama queen. At least I can swap bananas under water and not crash the server.

  • @guldlasse I think the update is fantastic. Now, each weapon has a place. If you want to repel boarders, the blunderbuss is the best option alongside the cutlass. If you want to take out an enemy at a distance, the sniper - and, given the change in bullet speed, this is now more feasible. With the sniper, you can better take out folks on cannons. The pistol is great on islands as a midrange weapon. All of these are great alongside the cutlass. This is how it should be. I'm glad they made the change.

And, when you sprint you put away your weapon - that has always been the case. It makes no sense to sprint in this way and then be able to instantly fire. The adaptation to make is to slow to a run for a second before firing... this way you keep moving and you're drawing your weapon. Rethink your timing.

This is not a twitch shooter, so... the changes work well.
