So found one of them boxes last night.
On Brimstone Rock, all washed up. Lovely looking. 25000, which isn't bad for a mysterious box, I wonder what's inside?

Two questions. How rare are they really? Many other people find them yet?
Also why is there no achievement or commendation for this? I wanna show off my awesome mysterious box finding skills to other pirates.

It's really Rare! I only found one yet.
Those were introduced with the Forsaken shores update, mid summer. The box only spawns in the Devil's Roar.
@boxcar-squidy They are pretty Rare I believe, all of my recent sessions have been in the DR as I’m on a commendation hunt and I’ve yet to bump into one personally..

Yet to find one of these myself. Agree though, it’d be nice to get a commendation or cosmetics from the vendor that accepts it.
Say, you get to choose one piece for every box you hand in; be it a hat, boots etc.. all themed on the design of the box.
Same with ship sets maybe? Hand in boxes until you have the complete set. That way, it removes the arguament around too many commendations for something so rare (there should be one and only one, for the title) but continues to give them meaning through acquisition of cosmetics.
Ranting aside, I bet you felt like a million when you saw it. Sure must have been a tense ride to the outpost lol

Congrats squidy. I was actually on your sever on Thursday(?) night, saw you on the ferry and commented to my crew I recognised the name. Thought you looked a little nervous!! 😁
We found 2 boxes a few weeks back, within 12 irl hours of each other.. Not a sniff since.
Edit: Must've been Thursday night... This old pirates memory isn't what it used to be...
@basshunter404 I think I remember seeing you on the ferry alright. I usually say hello to people. Most don't say a word, but the people who do can be great for ghost banter.
Dunno, I think Thursday I was busy getting robbed of an Ashen Athena's so any nervousness there was likely due to that.
Don't feel so bad about the Athenas now that I've found a mysterious box.
@boxcar-squidy No achievement because it is really really rare. I am already being driven mad not being able to find and kill the shrouded ghost. Having to find a commendation for the Box would drive me crazy, and least I can just lie and say I found it :p
@ecljpse yeah, I think I'd have gone even more crazy by now if I'd needed it for an achievement.
Now that I've found one though I'd have loved a secret achievement or hidden title or something, but it seems fair that Rare don't drive their dedicated players completely insane looking for those boxes.
I'm still looking for Ghostmaw. You'd think it'd be easier to spot a Giant Shark than a medium sized box, but here we are.

I have the luck to found 3 of them already, while the last 2 were found 1 hour apart in the same session.. Really lucky!
That was a couple of weeks after Forsaken Shore launch, since the last one, haven't found / seen any tho..

I have the feeling that is much more rare. I have only seen a handfull of video's of people killing it, and never met anyone who actually did.

Shrouded ghost is one of the 5 meglodon types.. This one is extremly rare tho :)
@ktingaling Out of curiosity did you have both boxes at the same time? Or did you find the second after selling the first?
@boxcar-squidy I ALWAYS plan a course to visit the smaller islands in DR, since i only have heard of people finding it on the smaller islands. It won't take much time, because on most islands you can spot the whole beach from the ship.
@Ecljpse no we did not. You can imagine we stopped with whatever we were doing and sold it immediately xD So we didn't have 2 boxes in our possession at the same time unfortunatly.. that would have been an awesome screenshot :)

You could be right indeed.. All 3 boxes i found were on 3 different islands tho.
There could be a max, for example 1 per server.. But since the spawnrate is so small, i can imagine it could be possible to have 2 or more boxes on the same server at the same time.. But when that happens, i think you should buy yourself a lotteryticket :)
@ktingaling I think to have 2 boxes on the same server there would have to be a merge with 2 ships that have them on board.

We can only guess unfortunatly.. as a software developer, i would love to see the code for these "random" chances :)

With the provided storyline I was hoping there would be dialog after turning it in.
Alas, there was none.
IMO finding the box shouldn't be an achievement (rewarding gamerscore, and/or doubloons), as it is mostly luck finding it (the more you are in DR, the more chance you have to find it though).
Whereas just having a title unlocked, showing this happened in your pirate's life, would be a good remembrance of finding the box.

Oh really? Sorry about that. I know there are some things you just can't unsee on the internet.
The forbidden box of mysteries is what I've actually been calling the "box of wonderous secrets". Well at first it was just the mysterious box or mystery box, but after the 20th or so trip to DR with no luck I added the forbidden part.
