Pvp vs Pve servers

  • It's nice to run into pirates and form alliances and rule the area collecting loot together and fighting everything that stands in your way. It also isn't so nice to be running skull voyages for hours and be overpowered by a 4-man team riding a Galleon, and have all your treasure taken. Some like to enjoy all of the content uninterrupted (PvE) and some enjoy plundering other's treasure (PvP). It would be nice to choose a server depending on what is the player is intending. What do y'all think?

  • @sgtkarrot seeing as you are brand new to the forum, this has been discussed a ton. There has been arguments on both sides, but where SOT is now in its life, anything is possible.

  • The game would be less entertaining for both pve and pvp players.

  • how many times is this going to be asked... It's a core element to the game, much the game design was revolved around having both PvP and PvE

  • Just join a grind/event fleet if you want to focus more on the PvE side of things for the night which is what I do and swap back over to the normal group sessions when you want to mix it up with a bit of both.

  • I need solo safe servers :(

If you quit the game your ghost remains on the ferry as a fail save waving his hand through the deck 5 min. And people can feed you bananas. When you restart after blackscreen or whatever you can still rejoin your ghost and continue your game and voyage. :")

  • @sgtkarrot I think I like to do both simultaneously while playing SoT.

    We don't need separate servers.

    Ehm. You meant PVE servers?

  • @SgtKarrot There have been countless posts on this please just have some basic common sense when using forums and search for other posts mentioning the subject instead of creating a new one, there are other posts you can go and read and see if you can counter or post a new way that it should be done there. Though I doubt Rare would add anything of the sorts seeing as how it kill a lot of the core functions of the game your suppose to have the fear of another ship coming to attack you, and take your loot and it's your job to protect it. I would also say don't join PvE servers since there are people (Like summit1g) that go into PvE servers just to steal all the loot and server merges are a thing there are many variables to it, which is why if they added a PvE/PvP server function it just would kill the game because then you would have PvP players going into PvP servers and fighting for almost no loot because there is no ships that are doing PvE, the game relies on that balance of PvEvP, it's why most Rust PvE servers allow raiding because otherwise your just building a base for nothing almost sure to store loot but then you have loot for what? Killing bears, games like this strive on that Player interaction that you don't know what's going to happen, if you call it griefing that people will sink your ship even when you have nothing then so be it, call it what you will, just be glad they are supposedly making a PvP Arena in the near future so that you don't have to worry so much about the players that play to solely PvP.

If you are trying to be condescending about it then sure lets call it Player Made PvE servers since there is that option with the current system and anyone whom wants to get together for it.

It also isn't nice for us to wait for hours for you to get all those chests we're about to steal.

Good thing I made the post. Now you have a reason to get on and write lenghty, condescending responses xD

  • It's happened to us all at one time or another. Rare has no intentions of creating PVE only servers so suggestion would to be play with a bigger crew or turn in as often as possible. Don't sail around with a ton of loot on your ship if you arent going to be ready to defend it. It is a pirate game with elements of both PvP and PvE .

  • @sgtkarrot we're not trying to be condescending. A lot of us are really tired of this topic because there are several extremely large threads already on the topic. This is an interesting issue with no "obvious" answer (though of course we all think are own opinions are the clear answer). If you want to weigh in with your arguments, and also see some of the best arguments for and against, I'd recommend finding one of the large, pre-existing threads and reading through it, and if you still feel that what you have to say has not yet been said, add a comment there. Best of luck, and enjoy the seas!

  • A choice between PvE and PvP (in the way that you describe) would not be good. Everyone has beaten this topic to death, but here it goes:

Sea of Thieves is about creating stories and experiences in this big sandbox where you can behave basically any way you choose. It is designed so that players experience a wide range situations that are made of many different environmental and player behaviors. So creating an Adventure world where you have the ability to disable PvP would certainly limit the types of stories and experiences that a player can find in the Sea of Thieves, and I don't really think that would build on what Sea of Thieves is very well. This is by far the most important point about this PvE thing.

The secondary reason is progression. Becoming a Pirate Legend. While all of our progression is purely cosmetic, it still means something. It still says something about the pirate that wears the Legend clothing or the title for turning in 360 Captain's Chests. You earn this pomp and frill for gathering tons and tons of treasure AND defending it from other pirates. A Pirate Legend is clearly a player who has many stories to tell about winning, losing, fighting, etc, all from what they've been able to experience in this crazy world of Sea of Thieves. In order to protect the value and the meaning of these achievements, I think it is important that you can ONLY progress and become a Pirate Legend in the Adventure world that has all of the PvE AND PvP threats.

Maybe they'll do something PvE oriented in the future, but it shouldn't be and probably won't be this 'PvE-only' version of the main adventure world that people seem to want.

  • @sgtkarrot well said needs to happen

  • @archaell won't be for p v e players
