Trolls trolls and more trolls

  • The topic says it all. I recommend not even playing this game anymore because of the amount of trolls that are ruining the game play. It is no fun to go out and explore the map and to the class and retrieve all the gold for money because there are so many trolls out there just killing you for the sake of killing you even if you don’t have a goal to steal. And to top it all off, you have people waiting for you to get back after you die to kill you again because they know that there’s a glitch in the game where your gun is it accessible for the first five seconds so they can just have a quick shot upon return

  • I see you are new to the forum, welcome!

Reading your post and the fact that you specially came to the forum for your first topic, you must be really frustrated!

But there is hope fellow pirate! If you are sailing solo, that is really hard mode.. It is not impossible, but you have to keep an eye out on the horizon at all times! Don't let anyone near your sloop, unless you want them to (most of the time you really don't).

Keep it up! There are so many nice people out there too! The majority wants to PVP, but you can anticipate on that to spot them early on.

  • Ahoy !!
Yes you have no luck, because contrary to what we can read, we can make wonderful encounters on this game :)

But we all agree that there is a problem with respawn, maybe they will fix it ... Or not ^^

  • @jaymieann
Hello Sir, in the beginning the game is hard , you need to learn everything while so many are very experienced ... At this moment , you see only trolls and people who just want to sink you at first sight ...Some will recognize that you are new , because you sail with white sails and an unpainted wooden hull, some will recognize because you have the default clothes and the title " Pirate Sailor" above your head and will attack you...But ...and i fear you haven't met them yet...There are also Pirates with a Heart for new Brothers and Sisters of the Coast, that will share tips and tricks , to "arm" you better against this world...People who really want that others ,or the new , have a good game that may restore their belief that this game can and really is a fun game...

Oh, and like people said above , don't sail Solo Sloop in the beginning , Sir...This is no insult ,but there is too much to do and too much to guard in the beginning to be succesfull as a lone buccaneer...Try to find people to play with ...Sure , you may meet crewtrolls but then leave and try again...You can set up a looking for group call or...You can ask here for some guidance and help for the beginning Pirate ...Don't be doubting , you will not believe how many would like to help, Sir.

  • @jaymieann

    Welcome to the forum!

    The game is challenging.
It is unapparent from your post whether you are playing "Solo" or with a "Group".
Both are very rewarding... but if you are playing "Solo" it is SoT's hard mode.

I myself mostly solo, you will develop a "Spidey" sense over time.
It comes with experience that will limit those times you are caught out.

    Hints & Thoughts:

    • Always keep an eye on the horizon ( even if you are on an island )
    • Cash in often, carry no more than you are prepared to lose.
    • Use the environment, storms, fog, large rocks, the back end of islands to obscure your vessel if you sense an enemy is around.
    • If you use the "Sloop" note it is the fastest vessel into the wind ( adjust your sails at a right angle to the length of your vessel ie Straight across, I know this doesn't make natural sense but it is a mechanic in game )
    • Keep a cannon ball loaded at all times, turn off your lights, & keep well stocked. Don't anchor!.. for quick getaways.
    • The Rowboat is your friend. View it as an "Escape Pod", if you are sunk by a "Natural" enemy Kraken/Skelly Ship.. you can still recover your booty and row it to an outpost.
    • "Tactical Scuttle"... this is were you are on an island.. lets say doing a Gold Hoarders.. you notice a vessel making a bee-line to your vessel. You can scuttle your vessel just before they arrive. Hide on island until they leave, then continue with digging up chests. Hide the chests, catch a mermaid, collect your vessel & return for your hidden booty.
    • If you are constantly being pursued & killed by the same crew. If you have scuttled/died & end up at an outpost change sails & hull etc. Disguise sometimes ends this cycle, and go to another part of the map for a while.
    • Always remember if you lose treasure, there is always more to dig up/ discover. Some you win, some you lose. If you can except that, you will start to find peace & will start to enjoy the game. Remember after all it is a Pirate game.
    • There are great people out of the Seas, there have been moments... well that have touched me. It can be wonderful fun & some of the best gaming experiences I have ever encountered.
    • I strongly suggest you group up (if you haven't), the early days of SoT a special group of friends to play with really helps. It will help your game, & confidence will come from this support & experience learnt.

I wish you the best. Never ever give up!

    Craggy

  • Well the point of the game is to steal and sail around. I get sunk here and there but doesn't ruin my experience and yea people can be [mod edit] but you can easily sail away or kill them. It just sounds like your complaining cause you die alot...

  • @piratecraggy and @Clumsy-George have some good advice right there.

The game is tough at first, especially solo.

Once you get a feel for it you can easily tell between player ships and skeleton ships. Watch the players, what are they doing?

Are they making a bee-line for the nearest ship? Those be PVP pirates. Them's be folks it be best to avoid.

Are they minding their own business going from island to island? Them's be PVE pirates, probably still best to avoid, as you make an easy target all alone on a sloop.

Once you get a bit more experience under your belt, you'll be able to tell from how they manage their sails if they are fully crewed/experienced. That gives you even more warning about a distant ship's intentions/threat level.

My advice would be to learn on a crew until you can handle all aspects of sailing, navigation and combat comfortably alone. Discord, LFG, the find a crew section on this forum and even, at a stretch, open crew are all options, some better than others.

  • The solo players are those who are pleasant on several boats because they know the mechanisms and know very well that the veil do not turn alone, that the anchor does not go up alone, that the boat does not repair not all alone, that the resources do not arrive alone ... All these reflexes that you take at the beginning by playing solo make that you are a good pirate in crew, the game in solo teaches you the bases of the pve, the group game teaches you the organization on the pvp! the 2 experiences are required! :)

  • [mod edit]

  • @jaymieann Welcome to the forums mate, as people have already made some great points above me.
(Minus the troll comment directly above)
I figured I would drop a couple of threads with some advice and tips, hope your future sessions are more user friendly and to your taste.

First one is from @Zormis a beginners guide:

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/79059/a-beginners-guide-for-brand-new-players

This one is a thread the @KattTruewalker put together for solo slooping with some help from the community:

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/24675/alone-on-a-wide-wide-sea-collected-hints-and-tips-for-the-solo-pirate

And lastly another one from Katt, this is a very detailed guide for new pirates joining the seas:

  • Hi there and welcome to the forums.

I would like to direct you towards the Galleon, this vessel has the capacaty to fit four people. There's a saying it's: "There is strenght in numbers"
Please find a group of likeminded souls and try again. If you're new to the game and start solo slooping you're going to have a bad time. Not only does everyone in the world have more experience playing the game then you but they are often with more too just so they can overhelm you.

Also there are loads of tips people can give you to stay out of encounters but I'd say the most important tip is to sail together.

  • @shurthugal CTRL+C CTRL+V

  • @shurthugal Ok.

  • @shurthugal He just posts that everytime someone posts about pvp hurts the game. Not always helpful, but at least it is consistent.

  • @jaymieann join one of the many fleets on Discord. Along with the tips shared above, sailing with others teaches you alot.
The trolls come and go. When I dont want to fight I just make it really dull for them.
But if you do decide to fight back, the rewarding feeling of retaliation is great!
You got this! Hope to see you on the seas.

  • I just spawned in, saw a Brig getting there backside handed to them by a meg so sailed over killed it for them and let them take all the loot.

The a Galleon appears and starts bombarding them, so I basically solo the Galleon for them. Some guy in the worst pirate accent ever says thanks.

Then he comes on board, I wave and he proceeds to spawn camp me with double guns.. take about 20 seconds to spawn in after each death because of how un-optimised the game is..

Lesson I learnt today and from the last 3 weeks when I played. Streamers killed the community of this game and from now on there will be no parlay or truces on my vessel. If I see ya I will try and kill you haha

The good spirit of this game is long dead, it’s an all out PvP fest and Im finally ready and have accepted it :P

Made me chuckle when I remembered the developers saying they wanted SoT to be the friendliest multiplayer game ever. XD

  • Dude. I feel ya. LOVE this game but the trolls make it MISERABLE to play.

  • @knifelife said in Trolls trolls and more trolls:

    Yip.. lol... I feel ya!
I get my "bottom" handed to me now & again.
Most of the time I find it plain sailing... thankfully.

  • @piratecraggy Haha fortunately I’ve been sailing for a long time so getting owned isn’t a new lesson for me, so I just laughed it off.

But alas this I will ride this storm just like all the overs, the waters will be smooth again someday. :)

  • There are a lot of trolls out there. Guess they got bored staying under a bridge. A certain streamer has been calling them all out lately filling the sea with posers spamming exploits and spreading toxicity.

There are a lot more better pirates sailing the seas. Sometimes it may not look that way, but trust me it is true. Some are troll hunters seeking to make the sea a better place for you and everyone else.

There is a lot of good advice and guides on these forums as posted here by great pirates and captains. Do not let the trolls have their way. Strengthen your sea legs and learn their weaknesses for they are many. Most importantly fear no troll. The sea is not for them. The true pirates shall rid the sea of trolls and their false king.

  • As the TO does not respond, I suggest this is a troll's topic.

  • @gamerghoul69 I wouldn’t say I’ve bumped into trolls. More of just adjusting to a new meta I guess one way would be to put it.

Either way it is what it is, no ones breaking any rules so just gotta suck it up xD

  • Plays pirate game, complains about pirates...... ugh......

  • @triheadedmonkey I was not using profanity... troll

  • Disclaimer. 300 hours in. 350 sinks, 70 deaths. As you can see love pvp as i keep track of stats.

This streamer culture....screw em. They aren't even fighting for treasure. We went from having a fun defense of skull forts to fighting 4 ships at once in a prolong ed fight. Heck.

The tactics are so annoying. They will send 4 people on our ship. Double tap everyone, while their unmanned ship crashes and sinks. We somehow bucket alive over and over while dying. It's a stalemate. But it's just. A time sink for no reward.

Gonna be nice once the arena launches and the streamer culture flicks to them.

  • Look... It's an online game that has thieves in the tittle... there are many ways to play and one of those ways is to kill and chase other players its not let's all hold hands kinda game its let's go sink and steal those players loot. If you get caught or sunk its on you mate... If you refuse to scuttle your own ship if they keep killing you its on you...

  • @darkjedirebel ...really this game has not been a troll fest its been a game of thieves... If you die by some one and lose your loot and call them toxic and griefing witch most of you people do all the time it's not toxic its part of the game. I agree there are trolls here and there but i do an Athena almost everyday. I rarely get attacked mabye once a week... wow that's some toxic players my friend wow. No I'm more surprised I dont get attacked more often.. again it just sounds like your the one being toxic by crying over What? Spilled milk. It's a game... You lose some battles and you win some plain and simple. If they do add private servers what would be the fun in that.. there would be no fun the game would simply die due to cowards who can't stand to lose a bit of loot to others players..

  • @jaymieann
    I met trolls yesterday!
They tried to board my sloop with gunpowder, I managed to escape but got killed in the process, then kraken appeared, they stayed on the edge of the ink and shot at me. My ship sunk, I swam to them, they said sorry.

Then they let me on their boat, collected my treasure and some of the krakens. 30minutes or so later we met up, they gave me my loot and some extra. We formed an alliance.

Now you should say thats one in a hundred chance. BUt so is being trolled harsh.

  • @knifelife I'm disappointed that you didn't think to also share my handy combat guide. 😥
