Booted multiple times while shopping for afk?

  • the items in this have are very expensive for new players. so i spend time looking at each item before finally picking what i want. multiple times I've been booted for afk while moving through the menu of a shop. this needs fixed. just lost a brand new voyage in the devil's roar that gave me 7 maps because i was thinking about buying a new hull look and was thoroughly checking the options.

it seems odd since the only thing you can do with all that loot, is customize at the shops... it's beyond me why being in a shop window is counting as afk...

i could understand booting if you hadn't pressed anything on your controller in 10 minutes...

  • The AFK kick timer must be based on character movement, so you need to move your character around to tell the game you are still there. This is likely to avoid having people just open a shop or the clothing chests on the ship to bypass the kick.

I think the AFK timer should be thrown out completely. I understand that its purpose is to get rid of crew members who log in and then just sit in the ferry and don't contribute, but a kick vote would be a much better system for this - if someone needs to go AFK for a bit and you're fine with it I don't see a reason to kick them.

But this is a double-edge thing. I've seen people in the Ferry before, who just lock the stick of their controller so their character keeps doing spins so they are never detected as AFK by the system. So if someone joins them and starts doing voyages they get rewards for doing nothing.

  • @stormfox57 No that just confirms that the AFK timer doesn't work, it inconveniences people who are actually playing and need to step away for a few minutes, and that a kick vote would work better in every instance where you'd want to get rid of a useless or disruptive crew member.

  • I'm a man, I don't really have this problem....

We men see a shop get what we want and get out.
I've never known the AFK timer was based on character movement. I'll have to check this out. If this is true this counts as discrimination. Women have to be able to shop!

I wouldn't say all guys don't like to shop, some of my closest guy friends like to peruse the shops when we get back from a decent haul, to the point that I sometimes have to remind them we're ready to set sail. Cosmetics are the only thing we can buy in this game, shopping kind of comes along with that by default.

Character movement seems to be the case in preventing being kicked for AFK'ing, which is why people will keep a movement key/button activated when they leave for a time. It prevents them from being kicked most of the time.
