Does the amount of loot on your ship directly correlate with the chance of a encountering enemies?

  • I apologize if this seems like a rant, but I thought I'd put this up for discussion. My friends and I have noticed a very uncanny trend during our adventures. We can usually sail for hours at a time without ever seeing a megalodon, skeleton ship, or kraken. But then when the time comes that we have about 9-12 loot items on our ship, we'll be on our way to our next destination when suddenly we are attacked by a kraken.

Okay, cool, we can handle it pretty easily.

But about 20 seconds after the tentacles rise, a meg jumps out of the water and we're suddenly in a 1v2 boss fight. After seeing neither of these encounters for our entire session, they both appear at the same time.

The next day, the same thing happened. Except this time I was playing solo, on a sloop, when a skeleton ship attacks me. It's hard enough to get away from those things when they're constantly spamming sail disabling balls and regular balls of destruction alike. But couple that with a meg that, once again, also decides to attack me at the same exact time makes me truly wonder what sort of circumstances are causing these encounters to take place. It has continued to happen since then, so much that it to seems to be more than mere coincidence. I'm beginning to feel like having more loot on your ship seriously influences how likely you are to experience enemy encounters.

  • Just unlucky.

  • It doesnt totally random i once loaded in got some supplies left outpost and got insta meg

  • yesterday I was thinking about that, we did 4 Forts and had after each fort on our way to the outpost a Kraken encounter... weird coincidence 😉

That's surprising to be honest, were you in the same server each time? There is supposed to be a cool-down on Karen, even during the current event where she may be a little more aggressive than she will be after...

  • Yeah, there must be something in place where interaction with Megs etc goes up when you have some loot, otherwise it would be too easy.

  • So far i only see if i have no voyage active i can sail around and grind easy with not many difficult encounters and not many and easy to kill skellies.

If i put down a athena quest the game gets flooded with beast and skellies and the skellies get stronger and spawn a lot of kegs.

So i first grind and gather supplies without a voyage when i start a new game

  • I’ve always felt there was some correlation to loot and the greater chance of a boss spawn too. Many of my kraken encounters came after a fort completetion. No evidence though. Have thought King Neptune was doing everything he could to stop me from completing the last few missions of some Athena Quest.

  • I would say no, however it may appear that way as encounters stand out more when you're stressed about losing items and when you have places you'd rather be, such as an outpost selling said items you could lose.

    it was the same server.

the same thing happened two weeks ago, a friend and me sailing from Crooked Masts towards Daggertooth Kraken, got sunk; I sailed back to save the loot, collected everything (he refreshed the items) we then drove towards Galleons Grave and halfway ... Kraken again
(time window about 30 mins, took some time to collect our loot ;))
    weird
