Sea of thieves Need More players Per servers and More creatures ennemy types PVE

  • The Two thing Sea of thieves need desperatly is raising the player cap in a single server to at least 50 players not the current 16 or bellow ... encounter with othership are sometime way to scatter over long hours of game time ... I dont want an Arena to non stop PVP ... i want the normal game servers with PVE and PVP to have a increase player count this is what this game need ...

Also sea of thieves and its only Ai threat the " skelly " of various kind need to be updated ... it would be fun to fights , NPC pirates on island and on the sea where we can actually drop their anchor and board them properly ... we need more creatures on the island who could be threat but that arent auto trigger all the time chasing us like crazy ...

BOrderland 2 is a exellant exemple of how to do stuff ... Sea of thieves did a similar thing with skelleton but never added anything but skelly to the game with " gold , leafys , white ones , and Dark ones ,who all have different behavior while remaining skelly kinda like the Sk@g in bordelands then " beside a megladon " of various colors who who are basically the same there is not much to the game ...

The base of sea of thieves is very solid but it need to be added so much contents for the game to become any better and the playercount and bigger ships have to be introduce into the game ...

I want to see Alliance fights with multiples ships ... so far its way to small scales ... while the gameplay fun sea of thieves could be so much more

    AD mythical creatures ...

Atlas was a disaster because its like ARK a tedious boring unpolish grind ... but their trailer is what sea of thieves should be ... considering only the trailer of Atlas this is what sea of thieves as the potential to become

Despite Atlas been such a mess , this is actually the kind of content Sea of thieves need , and raising the player count or player cap per servers is well needed in sea of thieves to allow more and bigger ships but also to allow possible fleet battle

  • 30 would be okay but no-atlas wanna be pls lol

  • @bugraersoyyy 30 is still to low especially if they end up making new snow island or something and increase again the map size ..

50 is probably a sweet spot to be able to add Man-O-War ships with a 6 to 8 mens crew

    with 50 we could have

    8 Man o war 6 men crew ( entire server filled )
12 galeons crew ( entire server filled )
    16 brigantines ( entire server filled )
    25 sloops ( entire server filled )

or a more likely senarios would be 2 man-owar 4 galeons , 4 brigantines and about 4 to 5 sloops ... and this is barely whats needed to ever have a fleet battles ... if 2 to 3 alliances are formed

30 will still be to little wich with Man-o-war would end up having about 5 to 7 ships at best on the entire map but anything will be better than the current 16 cap

  • @bugraersoyyy

I dont know what you can find wrong in the " Atlas trailer " the game was trash because its an ARK survival cr@p reskin , but the reality is this trailer as seduce a lots of peoples into buying Atlas wich they have refunded but the gameplay displayed is actually what Sea of thieves desesperatly need as PVE contents more impressive and more fun stuff ... more creatures more everything ... Sea of thieves as a very solid basis ... but still lack of what Atlas was promising trough the trailer but never deliver

I tell you if Sea of thieves team ever make a big Update with Raise player cap and has as much contents as you see in the false advertisement of Atlas ... they would sell millions more copys of the game

  • @stew360 Yeah, more enemy variety would be awesome. I really hope that's something they look into in the future. It will definitely make the game feel more dynamic.

IDK about the server population though. Number one, I don't think they can handle it. They are already having a lot of memory issues on xbox. Second, the current world is probably not big enough for that. They could probably bump it up a little and maybe to 10 ships with the next map expansion but I don't think they are ever going to go beyond that.

  • @xcalypt0x Microsoft as to step in and do something technology wise so the game can become what it should be ... They have a solid foundation for the game but sadly its very bare bones and foundational so far ...

Atlas trailer is what sea of thieves should have been

And Atlas actual current gameplay as it is is what sea of thieves should never be lol

  • @stew360 I don't think that's the direction the devs were shooting for. They always call it a shared world adventure game, not an MMO.

I think a proper pirate MMO would be great as well but that's just not what they're shooting for.

  • @xcalypt0x 48 to 50 players servers isnt "MMO " battlefield, has 64 players servers and it isnt a MMO dosnt need to be an Arena shooter to not be an MMO ...

  • @stew360 you are correct... but you are saying it needs to be like atlas... which is a survival mmo

  • @xcalypt0x

Sea of thieves use Unreal engine 4 and should be able to host 50 players server without so much issues ... microsoft should support the game with more and better game servers and servers infrastructure

  • @stew360 Frist off This Games Player Cap is 24 not 16 and Second while it is both true that UE4 can easily support a session Looby of 50 player which indeed will still not qualify this game as an MMO the problem here is the Limit is not tied to Players but to the Ships. This Game can only support 6 ships per seession regardless of crew size. The largest ship the Galleon can hold a crew of 4 players so if all 6 ships in a session are Galleons then this game can hold upto 24 player and in the reverse side it only takes 6 players to fill a server as it requires only 1 player to generate a ship.

However I do agree with you this Game would benifit Greatly from more Players, Ships, creatures and A.I. Threats however the Dev face the Technical limitations of the Xboxs System Memory.

  • @enf0rcer

Ships are entity and i doubt they are so demanding on the game as you try to make it apear to ... planetside 2 can have dozens of vehicules and thousans of players ... and even can run on a ps4 lol

And also can i know where you take your information from that the game can only support 6 ships no matter the size of the crew ?

  • @stew360

Maybe it could be bumped up a bit from 6, but that's the limit it was put at. You do know just how much else is also in the game right? That's where the true memory issue lies.

Perhaps when the game is done, there will be 50-100 people per server. It's planned to take 10 years, so who knows.

I understand why you feel this way but understand it not about the ship as simply an asset in the game, but the fact of how it is intergrated with the player Looby system as well how it's ties to the Migration system also how the majority of the games mechnics are tied to the ship. Yes the UE4 Engine is impressive but the ships in this game serve as much more then simply player vehicals. I to had the same thoughts as you did untill it was better expliand how the game actually works and how it is structured in code. We still don't have access to the source code Rare has been transparent enough to explian in technical terms what they attempted to do and the current challenges they face. There mostly hampered do to their sub Goal of making this game so asscessable that it can run a "Patato" Machine So they are in a constant state of optimization has they attempt to add in more and more content with the same if not less hardware resources. While some of the game assets such as islands are streamed in real time from the server jany of the assets still have to loaded into the client memory they are also limited to Network Bandwith as more content is offloaded to the server the data the Server has to stream to the client. So far Rare Accomplished an impressive technical feat which is why this game has somtimes been critizes as more of a Tech demo and proof of concept then a AAA game. They have already have pushed the limits of the OG Xbox Avialible onboard Memory at 5Gb for games.

  • @stew360 The 6 ship per server ratio is perfect as it is. Raising it to the levels you suggested would be ridiculously overcrowded and would destroy the immersion of the game. Rare has a very clear vision in this regard. At most, they might make an adjustment of one or two ships. But certainly not twenty or more!

  • @stew360 @ENF0RCER The game client is built in UE4. We have no idea what the backend looks like. They also have an entire video on youtube that talks about all the work they did on the ships to remedy performance issues with just the 6 ships we currently have.

  • More people more likely to have lag when there four boats at close proximity attacking one another.

  • @stew360 the map would be overwhelmingly full with that many players. An increase of 1 or 2 ships is negotiable due to the devils roar expansion. Anything more and it will be a brawling mess with ships everywhere.

The ships are more than just assets, they have interaction with the most impressive feature of the game: the sea. Don't underestimate the complexity of physics objects and the resources they consume. So, the concern about performance is legitimate that is raised by others.

Atlas is a different type of game, focused around grinding and building. Which can be fun, but totally different from what makes sea of thieves the game it is.

Regarding more variety, I am sure more will come. They already have sharks, megan, the kraken and gave skeletons a ship to provide some different encounters than hacking away at skeletons.

  • Never heard of Atlas before - while it may be terrible, that trailer was sure fun to watch! 😄

  • @galactic-geek

Atlas is horrible and not anything like the trailers , but the thing is that Sea of thieves should have been what this trailer was about ...

  • @cotu42 Wrong ... the game is empty as it is and even popular streamer who try to play sea of thieves get anoyed by the little encounter you can ever gets ...

On average we get very little to no PVP battles for days and then 1good day out of 2 weeks or so ... so talking from experience , this game require 3 times more players

  • I was involved in a 3 sloop alliance vs. 1 galleon fight over a skull fort today, and we were all fully crewed (10 players) too! I think it's mostly fine as is.

  • @stew360 I engage in combat a fair amount, any session I feel like a PvP battle I tend to be able to find it. So, not exactly sure how empty it is.

If you are talking about Summit. I think he is missing more of a challenger than actual more encounters. The average battle experience is very volatile to say the least and if I already have difficulties finding worth contenders, I cannot image how difficult it will be for him.

I at least solo sloop, two man or brig from time to time, so I can be challenged by numbers, he just runs around on a fully coordinated galleon with all professional players. Not to mention he is trying to keep a crowd pleased and doing PvE is not really in his repertoire. Streamers have a secondary purpose for playing games and that is being an entertainment for others... different needs and not a fair representation of the games population and needs.

Which is why a lot of us are looking forward to the Arena, as we hope that will provide a more skill based match and battle.

Just adding more ships is not the solution for those seeking a worthy fight. Though one or two more might be nice.

  • Technical issues aside, Sea of Thieves definitely does NOT need more players per server, in my opinion; I do agree that it definitely needs more content, but seriously, who really cares if a streamer is having difficulty finding 'worthy' PvP opponents to keep their audience entertained? I know I don't. I didn't buy the game to help someone else get views; I bought it for my own enjoyment.

I run into other players frequently enough as it is. Adding more players per server will turn SoT into 'CoD with ships', which will absolutely ruin it.

What the game needs is more AI enemies (something other than just skeletons on islands, maybe AI pirate crews), more aquatic life, and more variety in voyages/quests.

  • @jack-flintlock

I am not a streamer , neither a PVE carebear , and in both case i can say that Sea of thieves , DESESPERATLY NEED and REQUIRE , more real players wich is the only fun there is into this game ... skeletons are lame pve contents in this game is for the most part insanely limited and lame there is no depth to it ... and there is multiples days of a week where i see NO ONES beside 1 sloop here and there in SOT and this can last for days ... and we have maybe 1 worthy fight in a whole week ...

I am sorry but i play SOT to entertain myself and this game only have 1 thing going for it and its piracy in PVP beside that everything is Lame beyong the word ...

  • @cotu42

I can speak from my own experience and god know i have some and probably 10 times more hours into the game than summit and speaking from experience this game is WAY to often either empty either boring to the extreme ... with the numbers of hours i have into the game , the kraken , the pirates ships or the skullfort are easy repetitive and boring UNLESS there is REAL players involve in or around those and i can have days of playtime without encountering anything but few randoms sloop who flee to protect a castaway chest ...

  • @stew360 I am a PL and Athena 10. I don't have the issue of the sea feeling empty. The seas are currently filled with new players meaning it is hard to find a good challenging fight. Which is why I enjoy teaching my new members how to be a better pirate.

We will see what the Arena brings in that regard.

  • @stew360 If you find everything other than the PvP aspect of Sea of Thieves 'Lame', then why do you bother playing the game?
I (as well as many others) happen to find the game itself (yes, even the grindy parts) entertaining and beautiful; at least that's why I play it.

  • @stew360

I'm sorry, I'm going to categorically disagree with you on increasing server populations.

We've most of us read the design thinking behind the number of ships/players on a server and the 'boating lake' analogy but it isn't just down to the 'encounter rate' for me, there's just something incredibly appealing about acres of open sea with the odd sail on the horizon and the silhouettes of islands in the distance. It's about immersion.

I'm an 18th century-ish pirate sailing in a new world, ripe for exploration and adventure.
I'm not a player looking for a battle royale/pvp/arena style match to keep me occupied for an hour or so, there are plenty of sailing games which already do that.

I want that feeling of tension when I spy a new ship and the options to sail the other way or hide behind an island, or surreptitiously make my way ever closer before attacking. Sea of Thieves does that perfectly in my opinion and however the world changes in the future I really hope they don't alter those encounter rates.

  • @katttruewalker absolutely nailed it, in the most eloquent way. I couldn’t have said it better.

  • This is a tough one...

One of the things that makes Sea of Thieves what it is is its simplicity. Rare have done an amazing job at committing to the vision of letting players be the center of the story, and keeping all systems very very simple helps to allow that.

As much as I love MMOs and persistent worlds, there's something refreshing about a limited scope shared world.

I've been playing Atlas since launch and am enjoying it, but would not like to see the same in SoT.

I think Rare can definitely expand, but it has to do so carefully while keeping their vision in tact and not losing track of the essence of what makes this game feel like it does.

Less is more sometimes... and Rare's got it right, but is hard to maintain that over time!

  • Not for me. The sea is populated every time I am visiting it. Server merging does pretty well, hardly I see no players traveling on the horizon. The times you could do a raid alone are gone.

  • Atlas, btw., does not compare to Sea Of Thieves at all. The only thing they share is sea and ships.

  • I don't have to play on a public server, I often play solo.
    Around the its time, patience
