What happend to fishing?

  • @biggfelix Why not? Is it because it's something that YOU would find boring? I mean we don't need pets either but those are probably coming in 2019. What makes fishing, gambling, a social HUB, etc. fun is that they're all mini games. From a developer standpoint they keep players entertained when they want to take a break from the day to day game play of your game. It gives players something to do while they continue to enjoy in the world you've created. It also leads to social interactions, and this game is fueled by social interactions, which can lead to other adventures and stories. Not to mention fishing would be an excellent way for other players to share the stories they've gathered with one another.

Fishing will more than likely be apart of this game at some point. The developers have stated that they're interested in doing it and a very large part of the player base has supported the idea as well.

  • The Tall Tales Expansion will probably bring in cooking.
I think fishing will be a part of cooking, so it'll come in with Tall Tales imo.

  • Since most likely potions are going to be implemented in the game then maybe you can use fishes as an ingredient? Sounds farfetch i no but hey maybe it can work

  • Im not waiting for fishing/cooking, because I didn’t care so much about it! Things like Skeleton Lords or an Sunken Kingdom with hostile Mermaids are more and more my #1

But honestly Fishing and Cooking are both fitting in the „Tools no Rules“ scheme! Like everything else in this Game, you can do what you want!

  • As an ingredient for a potion, well, okay, if it has to be. Otherwise: no fishing, no housework, no weeding, no ironing.

But pets, please. I am waiting for talk like this:

    • The Kraken? I don't have time for that: I have to walk the dog.
    • Do the next jobs alone, I have to clean the parrot - it has mites.
    • I'm hugging my pig, tell the Megalodon to go away.

    Thank you.

  • @d4king55 Dude... You dont understand what I mean. Fishing is senseless and you will not get any reputation or gold for that. Why you wanna waste 30 minutes on fishing? Within 30 min you can sink a galleon and steal their loot. I mean.. Ye.. I know what u mean with galleon sinks your ship, but if youre high skilled, you can easily beat a galleon with your sloop in a 1vs4.

  • @biggfelix said in What happend to fishing?:

This game does not need fishing..... period!

Well, the nice thing is that when it arrives, you and others who feel this way won't have to touch it!

Literally more fish in the sea for us ;)

I know you're being sarcastic in your reply, but it opened up an opportunity.... ;)

If Rare does this all-in, I'd fully expect a new Trading Company just for fishing (or at the least, fishing voyages with the Merchant Alliance and the chance to "fish up" other items that the other two would be interested in.)

Also a new type of boat - a Fishing Boat - with special capacity (holding tank for example?) would be nice.

There's a lot they could do to bring fishing in, and also keep it very 'Sea of Thieves'!

  • @lethality1

Going back to the PotCO/TloPO references, one thing you could do in that game was hire a fishing boat for yourself and friends, it was immune to attack and you could sail out to deeper waters and catch different sorts of fish while watching the battles rage around you, it was well done :D

  • @lethality1 I dont need to be sarcastic. For what? There is no reason.

Yes. A fishing boat. Without cannons. So other player will come across and sink you without any reason everytime. So whats the point of this? Totally senseless.

If you are able to do some fishin while youre sailing a long way, cause its boring, than there is a point. But there are many other ideas, which are much better than fishing, while sailing. I saw someone who suggest a small game, which you can play with your crew and you can win or loose a amount of gold to your opponent. Would be much more fun.

I think you are grossly underestimating the Rare design team to make it interesting for Sea of Thieves... ! Also, there are TONS of players where fishing is like a standard feature in an open-world style game. Fishing can be a primary activity, not just a thing you "also do." It depends how rare will approach it.

The fishing boat will still have cannons... what SoT boat wouldn't!?!? :) But in addition, it would have features that would make the risk/reward for fishing players go up. Any player could fish, for example. But if you went out on a fishing boat, you could store more fish to bring back to market, etc.

I think fishing is all but confirmed, so might as well be happy for it. And I'm sure they'd love to add more mini games as well (Karnath cards would be something fun to do on board, but in reality there's barely a minute of downtime anymore.)

  • I seem to get carried away by the fishing in any game that has fishing on the side. There's also so much potential to be had as well, though I doubt any of my ideas would materialize. Imagine if there were rare exclusive cosmetics you could get only by fishing it up out off the ocean floor! If you happened to hook a meg and it towed you and your ship away with it. Doesn't matter how long it takes as long as there are silly features coming with it. Sounds like great fun to me.

  • @niqsun said in What happend to fishing?:

Mike has been overly dramatic 'anti-fishing' in the latest streams, which actually implies to me that it will be coming.
For example at 1:21:30, I mean clearly that is sarcastic right? :P

    If that’s not sarcasm, I’ll kiss a legend’s boot!

Truly looking forward to fishing. I hope it works much like animal crossing. Black mass of water (like the kraken ink but smaller) dotted across the map to signify fish are nearby. Slowly dock the boat and cast your rod. Would love a fishing book too to implement a “gotta catch em all” sort of vibe, complete with area specific fish, season specific fish, time specific fish, and rarity!

Don’t matter the game, animal crossing, final fantasy xv, I’ve always plugged heaps of time into side activities like this.

  • @polemisch a lot can be done with like like for an example... maybe u can sell ur fish to merchant alliance or smthn. it has a lot of potential and has been teased a lot in the past

  • @kaloudz I am not a fan of scholl of fish puddles. It would be better to have specific fishes tied to specific parts of the world (ex: the Devil's Roar) so that you can do it while traveling.

  • @d4king55 Fishing is/was like the dragons in game of thrones. We all know it’s coming at some point we just don’t know when but have figured it may be a while 😂

  • I mean pets were supposed to be done in the first patch of Sea of Thieves but was delayed so they could focus on other content, so imagine its similar probably something they are working on but some other ideas take precedence.

  • As a frequent ignorer of message in a bottle merchant maps, I welcome more ways to gain gold from merchant activities I can carry out from stumbling across them in the world.

I just hope rare will put an interesting twist on the idea and make it have more value to me than the "Cast rod, press button on bite" method many other games have adopted. Trawling would be a novel approach that could surface up other items that aren't fish for example.

Something to do when chillin' or something else to take when stealin'. Can't see the negative to the addition even if you're not interesting in doing it.

  • What ever happened to pets

  • I just don't see how they can implement fishing anytime soon without addressing any of the more desirable requests such as Pets, more integration with the quests in the environment, more trading companies etc...etc..
