It was confirmed a while back.. still being held off or worked on maybe?
What happend to fishing?
Fishing was discussed a fair bit during the AMA in the summer (June) and the subsequent roundtable, Rare are very aware it's something the community has requested and I would imagine it's being worked on.
As you sail around the world, there are some items added which might suggest work around this, such as the stools and crates near the edge of the seas, larger shoals of fish swimming in a circular pattern?
'Fishing "sounds like an awesome idea," design director Mike Chapman began. "Not sure fishing is part of the pirate experience," studio head Craig Duncan cautioned, while senior designer Shelley Preston could only manage a "shocked face" emote. "You've now had some insight into a design discussion at Rare," executive producer Joe Neate concluded. "See what I have to put up with?"'
Mike has been overly dramatic 'anti-fishing' in the latest streams, which actually implies to me that it will be coming.
For example at 1:21:30, I mean clearly that is sarcastic right? :P
@biter-wylie whoa there fella... unless you're discussing Pioneer content, which shouldn't be mentioned on the forum, how do we know it's being tested?!

"Nope, too niche. Nobody wants it, too niche."
The sarcasm doesn't get clearer than that lol. We're probably going to be waiting on a "when" rather than on a "whether."

Wow. Cool. So you do some fishing and then a galleon comes up and sink your ship. What did you earned? Nothing. Fishing makes no sense and is for survival dumdums. Go play Atlas, if you want a survival game with rpg elements.
Or be intelligent and play SoT.
You should wait until you see how it has been implemented before you decide.
@biter-wylie what he should do is learn that people enjoying different things than him doesn't make them less intelligent.
It doesn't matter much though because when fishing is implemented his whole comment about how it doesn't fit will pretty much get shoved down his throat.

Soon.
I can see both Pets and Fishing aswell as new assets to store during 2019 (new assets like watermelons, Ananas and other fruits...)
The real question is ... When is cooking ?? :D
as long as its not as boring as cooking in other games (im looking at u BDO and MS2)
@mr-dragon-raaar I've been sacrificing Gold Chickens and still not seen her! So I don't think its that... hehehe.
Never confirmed but teased plenty! I was hoping we’d see it alongside the inclusion of the row boat.
Hopefully it makes an appearance sooner rather than later.
I can see a bilge rat adventure being built around it rather than a whole expansion. Maybe that’s just wishful thinking as I want it not too long after the arena.Fishing for me sounds like a fun task to do while at sea on long drawn out voyages and it especially sounds like a great way to simmer down after an eventful night of plunder. Cooking fish, selling rare fish etc. This type of quality smallish additions that the game will benefit from. More ways to flesh out the world.

Go buy a fishing rod irl, no one is stopping you.
Lol. Yeah. If they add fishing, people will quickly realize it was pointless and that it’s boring. I don’t get it honestly. I love fishing irl, but fishing in a game is stupid. It’s predictable and repetitive. It’s generic and it’ll be especially generic in a game as basic as SoT.
Go try it in far cry 5. It’s extremely realistic and detailed which is awesome, but it’s still just boring.
We had fishing in PotCo which I loved. Started off on the dock with a level 1 reel and you could only fish from the dock. At certain levels you could buy a bigger rod and fishing boat so you could fish bigger fish. When you reached level 20 you were able to get the legendary lure and catch the legendary fish (there were 5) that had their own battle in order to land them. Using your rod there were 3 stages to go through and if your line didnt break you were rewarded with a tidy sum of gold and a piece of clothing, weapon or potion. It was a great way to unwind lol
I'd like to see something similar for SoT.

@polemisch
What does playing sea of thieves have to do with intelligence?
In fact the game is mainly played by children.@polemisch no one said it needs to be a boring survival game feature it can be VERY fun and fill the void between traveling from island to an island.
catch rare fishes add them to your collection many people like me would like more friendly features i love go crazy on PVP but its nice to have something to sit and relaxed on.@polemisch you can apply this to every other aspect of the game lol. Do a voyage, galleon sink’s ur ship, u loose all ur progress.
