Man O' War!

  • love to see this ship type down the road. my idea for its design are as follows.

huge ship! very slow, easily outrun by a galleon or sloop. easily out turned by a galleon or sloop. 3 rotations of the wheel to get full turning capabilities.

ship is to be used by a max of 8 people!

I believe for balancing purposes the ship will be so slow that it can only fight people who willingly stay and fight. running away is an easy to achieve alternative. but staying to fight could be a difficult but rewarding victory.

    4 Deck Ship

top deck: Sail controls and huge 6 man anchor. crows deck that could fit multiple people. Row boats for getting to islands because the man o war sits too low to get close to an island. captains quarters with full dinning room and separate bed room.

2nd deck: 6 cannons on each broad side with small holes to fire through. one chase cannon faceing out the bow. six cannon ball barrels sit conveniently in the center of the deck. A back armory room with all equipment chests and the map.

3rd deck: 3 wood barrels and 2 banana barrels. a card table in the center of the deck with a grog barrel close by for crew shenanagens.

4th deck: A brig that can hold 2 people, missilanious barrels like in the galleon.

let me know what u think could be changed to balance this ship more or make the game more fun. thanks.

  • Maybe change 6 to 8 could be balanced too

  • The main issue I see with this is the large number of crew members. It would be nice to have a bigger ship to have more of my friends together at the same time, but given that the servers are limited to about 20 or so people, that would mean fewer ships in the servers. Which would be nice for those of us who focus on PvE, as that means fewer ships roaming the seas, but if one or two people from the normal ships can get aboard and spawn camp, could you imagine if a ship with 6 to 8 people on board could do to someone they were able to ambush in combat?

The ship to ship aspects are fairly balanced in the manner in which you posted, but that's not usually the deciding factor, it's the players and giving the more aggressive PvP players a bigger ship to congregate on could cause issues.

  • Having that many pirates on one ship would give a distinct advantage to several areas of the game that, as it just so happens, provide some PvP. Specifically Skull Forts. It would make it nearly impossible for anyone not on a MoW to take on a fort, unless you are lucky enough to not have any MoW on your server.

  • @nofears-fun I disagree, a sloop can easily take out a galleon at a fort and they're going up against a crew twice their size. It's about tactics not raw firepower. If every other ship could out maneuver the MoW but would absolutely be decimated if they accidentally ended up on it's broadside I feel as if that would be a fair balance.

Ship combat in SoT has always been about which crew is more skilled, not about stats and numbers. I think adding a MoW allows for larger friend groups to play together while also giving some ambitious rival pirates a nice target to search for on the sea's. Chances are MoW's would have a fair amount of loot on board ready for anyone brave enough to take one on.

  • @je0rgie-p0rgie It may not be about raw power, and I do agree with that statement, however, going up against 8 is definitely a tall task. With 8 you could have 2 on board just keeping up with repairs with two on cannons and the other 4 simply cannoning themselves over to the sloop as it comes in range. When I defend a fort, no matter what ship I am in, we only move to angle cannons. So mobility won't be a factor.

  • @nofears-fun It certainly wouldn't be easy to sink a MoW, especially going up against a coordinated crew, but it also wouldn't be impossible and it may lead players to utilize the alliance system more frequently. With the MoW being such a huge target it requires more planks to repair. If a couple galleons or brigs or even sloops got some well placed shots in on them they could easily be done for. Not to mention cursed cannonballs can easily turn the tide of any battle.

It's not a ship players would want to attack unless they were well equipped to do so.

  • @kiethblacklion they could just make servers for galleons and the "bigger ship" only so then it would be a little more fair?!? Or perhaps only the "bigger ship" could play with "bigger ships", as I already feel they should do with the sloops but who am I to give advise to such a popular game that is overflowing with players.

@NoFears-Fun its no difference in having sloops with galleons, as I stated above. If it was that big of an issue they would let 1-2 man sloops be on their own servers.

But honestly it would be great to see a bigger ship or the opportunity to have more than 3 of your friends on the same server. As it is right now the Alliance feature is so broke it is ridiculous they still have it implemented in the game. The fact that you can join an alliance and friendly fire, or leave the alliance as soon as the Fort is finished isn't very rewarding, but with many of your friends in the alliance that wouldn't happen. They should in my opinion change the alliance feature up a little anyways. Make it punish you for leaving an alliance, like upon being the one that disbanding the alliance you have to fight a Kraken or a Fleet of skelly ships. Or make it impossible to leave an alliance unless you leave and join a new server. Either way would clean up the issues with the Alliance feature but I would love to see a team getting sunk after grabbing the loot and leaving the alliance. (which makes no sense when you ask me cause they don't benefit from it, they get full gold and full reputation while the alliance only gets half the gold, I personally don't care about the gold, I just like the rep so I can get leveled up)

All in all I would either like a way to get more friends on the same server or a bigger to play with more than 3 friends at a time! So I love the idea of a bigger ship.

  • as a Solo/ 2man sloop.. 8ppl on one ship is too many. Imagine being outnumbered 8 to 1 or 8 to 2. There would be no winning in that scenario. Yes, i could try to out run them.. but w the sword lunge and cannons, they could easily board and anchor you to catch up. Me no like. Man of War yes! but it should be a NPC boss battle. imo

  • @li-jratt-li the man o war would be significantly slower so it is easily avoidable by players. the main appeal would be for PvE dominance and no one will bother you
