Duke & The Legend Hideout

  • Ahoy Cap'n

Not sure this is the correct category but i was wondering about Duke & The Legend Hideout.

All outposts have diffrent NPC's on it. All stores have their own NPC. All Taverns have their own NPC. NO NPC on any outpost is the same... EXCEPT!? Duke!

What magic this Duke posesses? Teleportation?
I will meet him on Golden Sands, if i go to Sanctuary he is there all ready quicker than me!? I don't see his boat nor a rowboat.
Does Duke have 6 more brothers named Duke?!?
    How does he do it?

Or has Duke a secret passage via The Legend Hideout?

All outposts seem to go to the same Legend Hideout? If not than all the legend hideout npc's have the same magic Duke has.
If i go to hideout from golden sands or from sanctuary or any other all npc in hideout are the same.

    Still wondering

To add to this. Will this be the start of a quick travel? Go in hideout at golden sands but when leaving having the option to go to Dagger Tooth instead? Respawn boat there and let NON-Legend crewmates take the mermaid to spawn at new location?

  • @weakdexx It's one Legend hideout per server matey! All paths lead to Rome as they say!

  • Well Rare said a few months ago they were working on other Bilge Rat NPC but now that new NPC have been added into the game with the Sea Posts and on some islands, I don't know what they are waiting for the Bilge Rats!

It is an interesting question. It is a little immersion breaking isn’t it. Here are plausible ideas in a Top 10 for fun to justify Duke being everywhere.

Duke is at every outpost because...

    1. He uses the hideout as a hub to travel through doorways. He knows how to play the shanty out longer opening a passage to the outpost he wishes to travel to.

    2. He has a lot of identical siblings.

    3. He can swim faster than Michael Phelps and Posideon.

    4. He has a captured skeleton sloop to travel at great speeds under the water.

    5. He has a magic conch shell he uses to call a mermaid. He surfs the waves at great speeds on their back.

    6. He uses a drum to Uber a skeleton sloop.

    7. Like another plump guy who likes to wear a lot of red, steps through the fireplaces to blink back and forth.

    8. He has a cigarette boat he hides away that whisks him to the outposts even faster than a brig.

    9. He is really a ghost who can manifest in physical form due to a magic talisman granted to him by the Order of Souls.

    10. He has to work a lot of overtime because Rare did not creating more than one NPC.

  • @weakdexx Simple answer, he's a septuplet and their mom named them all the same. ;)

  • Good post @WeakDexx

I have no Problem with the Hideout (i am no PL anyway) because i think it's one Hideout you get to via a magic door from a couple of places on the world.
So the Hideout is unique, but have multiple doors /passages to get into.
    But i'm against shortcuts.
To much advantage and special ability for PL only. It should stay a horizontal progression game and not grant any special mechanics for PL's to make sure Progress never becomes mandatory.
Also this would make the fix with respawn in pvp far away from where you sank a little obsolete if a PL then can circumvent it and use a shortcut to get back.

    For Duke i completely agree.
Make them all unique, give them all some story, maybe even start events not in all Taverne and all Bilge Rats, but make it one time beeing the Bilge Rat in Golden Sands, who is maybe inkognito there and the next in Plunder Outpost whereas the overnext starts in Daggertooth.
They just start at Duke, Dirk, Doris, Daniel, Damian, Denver, Detlev, Drake.... But all would have the special rewards and such.

  • @x-crowheart-x "cigarette boat", "Michael Phelps and Posideon". Matey, that cracked me up so much. Thanks.

I think you forgot one though.... If I may...

    1. The new animal sounds you hear are actually magical, mystical beings, and some how Duke has control over them. Their only true power is teleportation.

hahaha to funny! Great love these possibilties XD

  • @weakdexx It is a good question.

I like to imagine that he runs through the hideout.

On a development level, I imagine new NPCs will eventually be introduced to the taverns. If they all look different and move positions with each update, it could get confusing which one you need to talk to. So I guess having them look the same which ever tavern you're in would make it easier, perhaps?
