Keybind For HUD on/off

  • Far, far, far from an important issue/request, but I would absolutely love to be able to bind a key to toggle my HUD on or off.
I know going into settings isn't all that time-consuming and hard-work, but it would make a huge difference for me.
For one, when going to take a quick screenshot of something in-game... Those precious few seconds mean much more when the in-game time (and the sun's lighting) goes by an hour per minute! :D (not to mention if you're taking a capture of a quick bit of action - like your crew-mate being eaten by a megalodon!)

Just a request I've had since beta and thought I'd mention here!

  • Could be interesting. For example F12 or something (in xbox IDK)

  • @pdt-mindstream

I'd definitely like to see something for this, as you say, capturing those quick action moments would be a lot easier!

  • Yea i agree, this kind of thing is annoying for me as well especially if you want screenshots of things like being in the middle of a fight or of a nice scenic shot it can be really annoying to have to go into the settings find the HUD option then disable it as you are gonna miss whatever you need to be taking a screenshot of

  • What about an options in Settings that allows "Hide HUD when taking a Screen Shot"?

Yeah, I always think games should have that option. Then again, this game has no built-in screenshot option, so I'm not sure they could do that when using the Windows screen grab (or any other program).
Honestly, I'd like the toggle, partly because I like to do video capture when action starts up sometimes as well. That and I just like turning off HUD while playing sometimes.

If I had my way, we'd have these options:

Hide Player Names - on/off [able to bind to any key]
Hide HUD - on/off [able to bind to any key]
ScreenShot - [able to bind to any key]
    ScreenShot Hide HUD - on/off

    PS
I can't leave that small wish list without mentioning the completely off-topic Raise Tankard via secondary action while the tankard is equipped. XD

  • @pdt-mindstream since your argument is on behalf of screen shots and the like. I would like an actual playback to pan around and what not. Sorry if off topic. I usually stuff my face with nanners before any photo op or recording. Can’t stand that little health bar in a good screen shot. Unfortunately a toggle would be a waste of a button on my controller. Not to say it shouldn’t be added.

  • Having it auto toggle the hud to off when I take a screenshot would be nice, until then all I can really do is either be fast enough to toggle it in the menu options or just make sure non of the hud elements are visible on the screen when I take them.

    Love it!

I would like to play with the HUD off completely for a more immersive experience. What I would like is to be able to see the Equipment Wheel and the Pirate Chat during gameplay.

    So while we're at it:

    • Hide Equipment Wheel on/off
    • Hide Pirate Chat Wheel on/off
    • Hide Emote Wheel on/off

And since we are going off-topic a bit: more emotes! I would like to see more gestures:

    • Threat (as seen in the trailer)
    • Follow me (as seen in the trailer)
    • Bow and present (as seen in the trailer)
    • Thumbs up/down
  • @pdt-mindstream I was just thinking about this. Would love this option! I also agree that turning off the HUD shouldn't disable in-game menus/radial wheels.

  • bump
I'd love to see a keybind for toggle hud as well...

  • @xma9numx You aren't supposed to bump old threads, and this keybind exists now.
