PvP Battle Arena's !

  • Hello developers,

First of all, I love the game.
    I had this idea in order to create a kind of battleground/game;
How about a pirate deathmatch ? On a map size of 12x12 squares, with 3-4 islands filled with resources and gun powder barrels. With the goal being the last ship standing.
Imagine team deathmatch, free for all, free for all solo (sloops only), etc. etc.

In order to start this you can make players choose from gamemode before choosing what ship they want to boat on. OR place a new NPC on the outlooks making you able to queue/enter this deathmatch.

Ahoy there and thanks for your suggestion!

You might also like to use the search function to find similar posts on 'Battle Royale' which has definitely been one of our hot topics in the last couple of months, here's one you might like to read to get you started -

I tried to search it but I looked for ''Deathmatch'' not ''Battle Royale''. I dont feel like its a Battle Royale game mode, as you can just boat to an enemy ship and start shooting it while their grabbin resources as the map shoulnd't become to big.

but hey enough scramblin around lets check your link.

And thanks matey ! Argh !

  • @masterpost You're welcome! It tends to be under BR because this was something asked in an interview and received a specific response from Mike Chapman, which resulted in a LOT of discussion -

Are you working on a Battle Royale mode?

Duncan: [laughs] You’re the second person to ask that.

    Chapman: That’s quite interesting.

and also a more indepth response in this article -

    https://www.pcgamesinsider.biz/news/67404/rares-mike-chapman-we-see-the-battle-royale-thing-but-i-think-there-will-be-opportunities-to-do-that-kind-of-thing-differently/

  • Proposals like these have been made for a long time, but developers have made it clear that sea of thieves is and will be a game with its own line and that it will not be structured in the way you are proposing.

At most, you might want to add an option when searching for a session.

    Let me explain:

At the moment when you start a session you choose the type of ship (sloop, brig or galleon) and if we want an open or closed session.
We could add the option to choose between PvP and PvE in order to allow the system to divide the players according to preferences.

If you choose PvP so you know that you will be with other players who have made the same choice as you.
    Same for PvE.

Maybe in PvP you could raise the maximum limit from 6 ships to 10 or more, but that's something that should be addressed regardless of the selection of servers.

I personally think Battle Royale doesn't fit this game. as in PubG and such you can hide yourself in a big map where the size of the map keeps decreasing, and by the way you cant change the wind direction, what if you have to move more then 10squares to stay in play area and you got front wind ? it not fair. Its as you're running to the play area but your shift button isn't working. It would be more fun to play in a smaller area map with unlimited time, where teamplay is key to survive being the last ship standing where resources are scarce but plenty of cannonballs to shoot (or it will take hours to finish a game). The idea is to have a 15-20 minuts deathmatch game.

  • tune into the stream tomorrow, on mixer.com/xbox as there is suppose to be an announcement regarding PVP. No other details though. This info came in from Twitchcon from Joe Neat.

  • @seaofthievesit

If they do this like choose pvp or pve u will split player base. This they dont want. All who say PvE will be in PvE server where there not be PvP (or small chance there will be)
Basicly if u choose PvE then the game becomes easymode. All treasure will not be stolen and u can collect as many as u want. There is no more treat.

  • Really ? Are they really considering to import a variation of Battle Royale...Waw, talking about destroying a beautiful day...Mr Chapman, Mr Duncan, your team bursts from inspiration ,dedication and originality , why would you go towards copying things from other games that will only look like Sea of Thieves is a copycat…
Sure , i live on the same planet as you , have seen a lot of complaints during the release but where is the " 60 dollar/ 70 Euro is too much complaint?" .The complaint about " there is not enough content " will soon be pushed into a "Fog" where it never will be heard or seen from again. Both complaints will soon be gone because the whole of Rare kept building towards the road they had planned ...Upstream and against the current ...That why so many of us love and respect you…
But reading that there are plans or considerations to answer a hype that maybe next year get's vomitted upon...Sorry , i know i'm not smart but why do you need this formula from someone else?...You don't need it , keep doing what you did for so long and leave other formula's in the game they were introduced , work and are loved but please no...Whatever comes towards us ,no Battle Royale in the main game...If you make a seperate option , i have nothing to argue ,but keep the main game as beautiful as it is today...Please, You are one of the few developers that search ,and love to bring originality , don't thread off that path ...

  • Throwing in a battle royale mode is usually the last desparate attempt at increasing the playerbase before a game just dies off. Shoehorning it into titles whose design is not a natural fit for it is usually a disaster, and the market is already saturated with BR games that do it better than Sea of Thieves ever could.

    Its a waste of time.

  • 1st off, we know whatever pvp announcement there is won't be battle royal like in pubg. I love the game to hang with folks and maybe do a little pve, maybe a little pvp, maybe a little of both. All parts are good and should be embraced. Pve has been improved and now we are starting to see enhancements to pvp like fog. Also, those folks saying making certain changes to keep a desperate game afloat is partly right. The developers want to continue to enhance the game which makes sense. Desperate is probably the wrong word. Final thought, this game has so much potential as a quest driven, story line, pve eccentric game. BUT, just as much potential in the area of pvp. A proper balance would be great. So many fun game made concepts could be applied to pve. Heck, you can see twitch players have already come up with cool pvp ideas like 4v4 one island, gunpowder in middle of the island. Also, the company behind this game made some of the best pvp games and pve games. Let's expect both!

  • One other thing! When Rare does the live streams, you can tell that the most fun the crew has is when they just go attack ships. It's also the most fun to watch. It also ends in the best jokes. Anyways... suppose I should go back to work.

  • I don’t see why we can’t have a separate 6 galleon free for all mode on the side of the great game we have now. No treasure, no resource gathering or powder kegs just a simple quick death match. Would be great for those with limited time and an experience for those looking to hone in on there pvp skills in a mutual battle for glory.
