How Discarding Maps should work

  • Ahoy Mates!
A highly requested feature from Both Legends and Sailors alike is the ability to discard Message in a Bottle maps & Barrel Parchments.

    How would this work?
Well, here's how I'd make it work:

    • Alright so, you discard a map buy activating your map Radial Menu.
Go to the map you wish to discard and press X. (And if your on PC you'll have to press some other button)
A notification will come on the screen saying:
"Are you sure you wish to discard this Map? Yes, no."
Press yes and the map will leave your map Radial Menu.

If your playing as a crew you'll have to vote on which Map you wish to discard via the same method I previously described.

And you shouldn't be able to Discard Maps that are part of an active Voyage imo.

Anyways mates, that's my take on how Discarding Maps should work.
Let me know what ya think!
Until then see ya on the seas!

  • Sounds like the way it should work. Confirm you want to remove it and not allow those part of voyages since you can cancel them. Fast and simple process.

Rare needs to give us the ability to do this sooner than later. Would have been nice to include it when they started making them so plentiful.

  • Definitely the way to go. Had this very problem last night. Our first outpost we supplied up and already had a full wheel of bottle voyages. Its ridiculous how many there are. This seems like a great way to do it.

  • There's nothing wrong with this idea, but I think the real problem is that there are way too many random quests now. I personally feel putting them in barrels was a mistake, not to mention a silly idea to begin with. Finding messages in bottles used to feel special. Now it's like, "Oh gawd, not another one." They've unintentionally ruined the system and I wish they'd put it back, or at least greatly decrease the frequency.

  • Everybody knows you don't have to take the missions you find in barrels, right??

Yes you do not have to grab it out of a container. However, you cannot see what you just discovered without removing it. You need to look at it to determine if you want to complete the object or not. Once you look it is part of your menu and no way to remove it. The way the new inventory menu functions you can also be grabbing too fast or all and end up with the item even if you did not want to depending on the situation.

I think @Genuine-Heather is right. The old discovery rate made it more a special find. Now they are just too common.

This. Plus, usually when I raid a barrel, I just spam the F key to quickly get everything in there. I don't waste time picking and choosing.

  • @antagoni-blurr Ya but then I would have to slow down clicking when I'm loading up my ship and thats just not gonna happen....

  • To be honest I don't think Maps in Barrels is a bad idea.
    I like it.
But you get too many maps now, so there's needs to be a way to loose em.
So this idea would probably work.
