Limited edition headset

  • I know this is meant for game discussion but we have the limited edition controller with matching dock, and a limited edition 2tb hard drive. Since chat is so important in this game it would be wicked to have a limited edition sea of thieves themed headset!!! Maybe a design competition???

  • Why have a headset? When the SoT controllers audio output c***s out within 2 weeks of purchase. That would just build people up for more disappointment.

  • @wiredsolstice I have had my controller since the day it was released and it is still perfectly fine.

If yours stopped working, you should have sent it back for a refund/replacement as it must have been faulty.

  • It'd need to be one hell of a headset to replace my current one.

I could justify the controller, xbox controllers are xbox controllers. Didn't bother with the External HD, no need for such a device, but its a good option for xbox players who have less choice for peripherals.

Headsets though, there's a lot of variables, comfort, sound quality, mic quality. A headset is, for me, one of the peripherals that you should never, ever go for the cheapest option on, unless you have no interest in playing online games where communication is essential.

The difference that a high quality headset, with surround sound and all the fancy extras like Dolby whatsitsname etc. makes to immersion, comfort and clarity of communication is so profound that I wouldn't even consider a downgrade.

If a SoT themed headset was of the highest quality currently available I'd be interested, but I imagine we'd be talking about a headset that cost in the €200 - €250 range and I can't see MS thinking that would be a big seller for them considering the other players in the headset market.

  • I would like a Sea of Thieves themed headset. I am still waiting on a sticker pack to make my headset #morepirate.

  • @lt-swag-johnson interesting. Now that I'd definitely do. Plaster SoT stickers all over my cans so that they match the controller.

Also I'm a vandal and like plastering things with stickers.

  • Cool! I've got the Astro A50. BEST.HEADSET.EVER! But would love one in SoT style. Not with stickers tho, but with a actualy paintjob.

  • @triheadedmonkey Messaged seller and manufacturer a few times. 8 months with no responses.

  • @wiredsolstice Ahoy matey!

Since this is a genuine Microsoft Xbox product you can go directly to Microsoft/Xbox for the repair, regardless of where you bought it from... all you would do after getting a Repair ID is ship it off to Microsoft and they will send you a working product back.

I had a similar issue with a controller purchased via Amazon.

  • @boxcar-squidy How can you justify the controller though since you can get an elite for less than the cost of it? Otherwise definitely agree since you would probably get a far better headset for the cost. Skins are definitely the way to go

  • @muzackmann The SoT controller was £65, an Elite is £110.

  • @triheadedmonkey

SoT controller at Launch was available Amazon at £52.
New on ebay (UK) 'Now' at least £100.

Certainly was a lot more affordable at launch... guess that's the nature of limited edition.

edit: I remember at one stage the controller about 2 weeks in, actually dropped to £48 for a few days... that's the lowest I've seen it.

  • @piratecraggy Yeah, the controller did have a few offers on after launch, but it was extremely popular and sold out very fast!

  • @musicmee

Yeah... it moved around a little from the mid £50's to high £40's... each day it could vary a little.
Guess they were looking at how they could maximise the return on that period, with the limited supply.

I purchased one for a mate of mine about 1-2months in.
    Amazon claimed it was shipped.
Nothing received, 2 weeks in & after a few emails back & forth... I guess they found a whole supply in a warehouse in Italy.
( Postage, packaging, invoice all in Italian ). Thank-you Italy:)

  • @triheadedmonkey That would be why. I only looked into it after a friend had shown me his, at which point they were $160. Sucks too, cause I would have gotten one way back when had I known(and been able to get one before they sold out). Now its just ridiculous at their current pricing even without the ferrymans set.

  • @muzackmann Well, I bought my controller around launch, and I think it was more or less the same price as a regular controller (€80 or so I think), needed a new one for a VR thing (the controller was actually how I found out about SoT in the first place so I have absolutely no regrets).

That's not to say it was a wise money - value decision, but I seem to have been born without the capacity to show restraint or defer gratification when it comes to spending money on things. Thankfully my current missus is as understanding of my game/peripheral expenditure as I am of her need to have enough shoes for 6 centipedes.

  • @boxcar-squidy lol, I was the same way till right about when my 2nd child was born and had to cut back a bit. I honestly would have paid a little more for the SoT controller simply because I loved the way it looked and I still think its best looking one I've seen yet.
