  • @sshteeve Accommodation - a room, group of rooms, or building in which someone may live or stay.
    (See recommendation).

  • @sshteeve

I don't know if it's really a misspelling but do you know that the Brig has a brig? ;)

  • @skulliah Ever dance a jig in the brig of a Brig?

  • I remember a while back chuckling on...

    "Gold Hoarer"... can't think why.

definition - a person of dubious morality, metallically sprayed

  • Mixing Fletchers Rest with Fetchers Rest named after the pirate 'Fetcher' Farley ;-)

  • Updated with some new ones, thanks for the help so far folks!

  • @sshteeve

I've bookmarked this, if I come across any more I'll send 'em along :D

  • @sshteeve I especially like the Abhoy! mention. Very fine work!

  • @luciansanchez82 thank @PersonalC0ffee for that one lol!

Please, allow me to add to the confusion. A "brig" is also a type of two-masted, square-sailed vessel, but with a slightly different sail arrangement from a "brigantine." The ship we call a brigantine in Sea of Thieves has two masts and square sails, but none of the other features that would distinguish it as either a brig or brigantine. So really, it could be either, or neither.

EDIT: I love this post. :)

  • @personalc0ffee said in Let's Set Things Straight - Pirate Spellings:

@sshteeve It should be noted that a Bosun or a Boatswain is responsible for basically running the ship. They tend to riggintg, sails, and hull I believe in addition to dolling out punishment to crew.

Us boatswain here on the forum are just positive community members that only strive to help our fellow pirates by spreading our knowledge or keeping the place clean.

Allow me to further note that "boatswain" and "bosun" are both pronounced exactly the same, i.e. "bo'sun". They're simply alternate spellings of the same word. :)

  • @genuine-heather cheers Heather! Brig and Brigantine have been causing some issues since they were introduced! I saw a few threads around this in fact when Cursed Sails was released.

  • Great work @sshteeve and crew.

Commendations: The achievements rewarded for completing certain tasks of the bi-weekly events found in your "Reputation" menu. Many write "Acommendation".

And for the Rare employees, "Allmondbeard" although not a true word, it should only have one "l". lol :p

We all make typos, punctuation and spelling mistakes. I am forever giving my posts a touch up even days later. Unfortunately by then it's been quoted and I can't fix that. lol

  • @sshteeve

Blunderbuss: The shotgun type of firearm which fires an array of pellets as opposed to a single bullet projectile that a rifle or pistol discharges.

Doubloons: The alternative currency to gold coins.
I have seen this one written in various ways, "dubloons", "doblooms", "dabloons", etc. All of which I find amusing. :o)

Galleon: The four person, three mast vessel in Sea of Thieves.
    Another that is often misspelled.

P.S. sshteeve, I'd like to see the entire list alphabetized thank you. lol ;o)

LOL, give me some misspellings and I will put them on the list, thinking of what Doblooms might be in real life! Need to rethink my layout for those ones!

  • @sshteeve lol

There is such a thing as a "dobby loom". Close enough. :o)

  • Weary Balls - Sleepy balls
    Wary Balls - Caution balls

  • @sshteeve

    Abhoy...

Oh wait, that's just something I misspelt and am now stuck with forever!

Aww man, i don't think I can add those without getting into trouble for breaking forum rules in my description of them! ;P

  • @sshteeve
Weary cannonballs - The cursed cannonball that makes pirates sleepy.
Wary cannonballs (not in existance, yet) - makes the pirate cautious about those pirates who say they're 'friendly'

  • This is one is more of a misuse more than anything.
I'm guilty of referring to it as....

The Red Sea - is a seawater inlet of the Indian Ocean, lying between Africa and Asia.

The Devil's Shroud - The Devil's Shroud is an area outside the border of the map in Sea of Thieves.
Here, the environment starts to become very dark and ominous with the water turning into a tint of blood red.

There is also the golden nugget of Left & Right, when you should be using Port & Starboard.
It's a sailing vessel not the chorus line :)

  • @piratecraggy

There is also the golden nugget of Left & Right, when you should be using Port & Starboard.

Or, as certain individuals like to call it on one of our crews... There and Over There (as in RIGHT There and of course LEFT Over There) ;-)

    @Cptn-Time @animalrox @hammy-hamstar @c*****r-ghost @Poke-Warrior sounds correct yeah?

  • Good thread. We could have another thread just for mispronounciations in the game. Some I've heard are mardur's (marauder's) chest/arch, villaenious (villainous) skull, and kay (cay/key - which I'm fairly certain are both pronounced as 'kee').

  • @khaleesibot thanks! I'll update tomorrow when on the laptop - trying to edit on mobile makes my head hurt!

Also glad I didn't add Allmond!

    Coined by @Erinom3, popularized by @DrBullhammer. 😉

I got a whole list of nautical terms that are unique to Sea of Thieves and its community (and who coined what) - now @Sshteeve got ahead and made this thread, well done Matey! 😃

  • @drbullhammer Duly noted, will get on it now my friend!

Also... am I being egotistical here, or was Steve's Haven coined on my birthday when I had to cash in the Fortune loot pile?! (that was a great present by the way!)
