Casual Servers

  • A tiny bit about me.
I am a working man, I live with my long-term Girlfriend and my best mate. We have rescue animals and so spend a lot of time tending to them. I work in the games industry and as such only have from 20:00 to 22:30 to play sea of thieves.
We don't have much time to play but adore the game. Between people killing us and volcanoes exploding us which are all a fair part of the game, the issue is we end most nights having put in maybe 2 chests. We have played intermittently since day 1 (betas inc) but are not yet legends, which is cool, we enjoy the journey to earning that title.

We would LOVE servers with other noobs or casuals or working adults (Not that all skilled players aren't working adults). We want to enjoy the DLC but some young lads who had played the DLC already (forsaken) killed us repeatedly, we joined a new server and had the same. While I understand Piracy is fine in a pirate game it des ruin ur nights somewhat.
We find ourselves logging off and playing some Battlefront or offline Co-op games with 2 hours sadly fruitless.

I don't know if you could match us by levels, KD, hours played or something. But an option for casual players would be INCREDIBLE for us. We would play every day and get to enjoy it and come out with nothing but positive words to say on the game.

Thanks for reading my s*b story haha.

  • @cougarhound69 Hey mate, I'm glad to see that this wasn't another "PvE only server request"! I'm not sure if Rare plan on creating a more in depth matchmaking mechanic with regards to player 'Skill' but others have asked for similar things in the past.

In the meantime, do you only play with your girlfriend? It might be beneficial to try and find a more expierienced crew (no insult intended) to help you along the way?

  • @octopus-lime Yeah, she's new to gaming but Id rather play with close friends and gf. I just prefer it :) I don't have fun just with a "hired" crew. used t that on ESO when I was a student but these days are over. My time is precious haha :)

  • @cougarhound69 Fair enough bud, just something to keep in mind. I usually play with my RL mate and then we have a UK discord group we are a part of as well for when we want to do a brig or galleon so we can get extra crew. Have gotten to know them very well now over the months.

The one we use is called 'Grog save the Queen'. Very chill, its not a 'clan' so no weird heirechy stuff or roleplaying, just a chat room and LFG really.

Best of luck for your adventures!

  • @octopus-lime Thank you so much! i will have a think. I am certainly not for PvE servers :)

  • @cougarhound69 Just wanted to comment further on what @Octopus-Lime said; Grog Save The Queen is a great place to find some other pirates with a similar mindset. They're all very friendly and I've always found other players with the same aim as myself.

Also, I think @Octopus-Lime and his RL mate should get a room.

  • Hej @cougarhound69,
42 yo singleparent man with a dog and a job, less money and time here :D

I know what you are describing very well, but fortunately i had also the complete other experience. Volcanos calm like nothing, i wondered a lot, because the first days it was not. Met a lot of friendly people offering an alliance.
But of course you can have the opposite of that and experience an unforgiving environment plus unvorgiving players.
I do it this way: My approach to a gamesession SoT is somewhat like i join an arena game, maybe some sort of Battle Royale Style,
fyi i'm no BR player, in fact i don't like the genre :P
But to spawn in SoT is like an "arena match", the match lasts as long as you live. Your match can go very long and be successfull, but also become very challenging and stressfull and in the end unsuccessfull.
But you are the one who can to some degree influence your match's difficulty.
Sometimes nothing help, but to just take a break.
Sometimes you have bad luck, thats normal.
But sometimes you also have fun, are lucky and successfull.
    Don't stress yourself accomplishing something.
Nothing in SoT needs you to do so. Nothing!!!
You can partake in all aspects of the game from the very first minute and you won't miss anything important regarding gamemechanics, features etc. it's only about cosmetics.
I shure know they are important to some degree, but this is just a matter of time as you one day get what you want.
I'm also no PL, although i play since alpha.
Do you know what we did some days ago, when Volcanos and some PvPirates stressed us?
We did a Fort with peace of mind, because nobody showed up :D

  • @luciansanchez82 haha, awesome. Thanks dude

  • @stundorn Very nice sir! All very well put and fair. I will take some of that advice on board. I really will.

  • @cougarhound69 This is an awesome post..and hopefully the people who want safe zones..or private servers will read this..I think it would be awesome to have an option like this..but I would also still want to keep the random servers we have now of course..lol

  • btw...

Maybe something like this would match people of approximately the same skill or inabiliy :-P together

I'm in the same boat as you
32y/o with a small family, own a business and my playtime hours are from 20:00-23:00

however, I've been gaming long enough to understand that it's bad for games to cater to someone's needs, instead someone's needs should dictate the game they pick...

so, like me, I end up logging off and play something else. This means that Sea of Thieves is not a game for me, I will not demand or suggest the game to change to cater to my needs and lifestyle. Instead I will pick a game that matches my lifestyle. In my case, Warframe/Destiny like games where it's solo friendly, and the multiplayer can last as short or as long as you want/need.

I'm sorry but I won't sugar coat it, I tell it like it is.

  • @squaz05 Hey there,
Fully agreed. But Casual/noob/poor player/working person servers would help both parties.
    Landlubber servers haha

  • @averageheroz Of course. I wouldn't want to ruin the game for others!
Pirate games will have...Pirates. I am not for safe zones or PvE either :)

    how would you measure these?
i mean the noob/vet I will understand and would be ok if players are placed in a "new players only" matchmaking for say the first 10 hours after that they get shoved with the rest of the population.
but how woul dyou measure a casual/hardcore/working person servers?
Rich and poor have no relevance.
