Weapons Chest on Ferry of the Damned

  • Ok to start I've really been enjoying the game. Got it about 6 weeks ago and been having fun since.

I've read many suggestions on here and agree/ disagree with some, but still like the game very much.

My suggestion is to have the ability to change guns/ weapons on the ferry of the damned. I kept getting spawn killed as they stole my boat and kept theirs next to mine. I was continually harassed for 30 minutes. Not upset about that, it's the game. I could've quit and rejoined but wanted to play it out.

Maybe that would have given me a better chance at fighting to keep them on their toes a bit more.

See you on the seas! Yarrrghhh!!!

  • Rare deliberately made weapons unusable on the Ferry of the Damned. I don't think that should be changed; but I don't mind this idea at all!

After all, a ride on the Ferry does automatically reload your personal ammo supply.

  • @bonko40 While I’m not entirely opposed to the idea, I don’t really think it would work. They would need a place to put it first of all, the only place they could potentially put it is by the door which may look awkward. It also kinda seems unnecessary, I mean I doubt switching from say, a pistol, to a sniper, would do much of anything to help you, but then again I guess I wouldn’t really know until I try it. Props for a unique suggestion.

  • @exeternautical I see what you mean. They could always make it look spooky like the rest of the ship. The reason I thought of this was because I wanted to wield a pistol in place of my cutlass. While being spawn killed, I would usually jump off the boat and it ended up being an underwater shootout most of the time, and having two guns may have given me a better chance.

  • I just wish Rare would fix the death-spawn positioning - it's always in the same darn corner! Give us more death-spawn positions, dagnabbit! I hate seeing through other player's bodies! It's creepy!!!

As for the idea of having an armory box on board the FotD, I think it's an interesting one. Whether it'd be broken or not, I can't really tell. Most players who are expecting and waiting for you to respawn will probably kill you again anyways - for example, I would lie down under the water and wait for you to make repairs to your boat, then stab you in the back. Besides, if you die and they can spawn kill you, it's basically over at that point - you've lost.

  • Yea thats a pritty good idea, could give a little higher Chance to get out of those spawnkilling fights.

  • This is a really cool idea, thumbs up! I also think at least 1 second of invincibility should be granted when spawning back in.

    Pros:

    • Gives players SOMETHING to do on the Ferry of the Damned instead of just running around and waiting for the clock to run down. I think this is helpful for player psychology, and slightly takes away the sting of death.
    • Gives players who are being spawn-camped OPTIONS and lets them feel like they can do something to fight back.
    • Allows players an opportunity to really be thoughtful about their loadout and equip themselves for the current situation. Sometimes the game is moving so fast you don't take a moment to consider your weapon set-up and just die again before changing it.
    • Potentially scares off spawn campers/keeps them on their toes. "That guy I killed had an Eye of Reach and a cutlass, I wonder if he is coming back with a blunderbuss!?"

    Cons:

    • It's a bit strange flavor wise, but hey, so is refilling your ammo when you die.
  • @galactic-geek That's totally true about them probably going to keep killing me. In my case, they were repairing my boat for me so that I would kee spawning right next to them. So I wasn't too worried about patching the holes lol.

In the end they didn't realize they made an alliance with me and I snuck into their crows nest while they cashed in their loot from a skeleton fort LOL. So it was worth all the harassment

  • @gonnableedya Exactly, it's not a guarantee, but at least you can try a different technique after dieing three times

  • I'd say this is a bad idea, and here's why:
Choosing the right loadout is part of preparing for a battle, if you die and start being spawn camped, there is already a fix for this - Scuttle.
You already get full ammo when sent to the Ferry to give you a chance, I don't see why you need more of an advantage. If for whatever reason, you choose not to scuttle, best you can do is to leave the Ferry with your crew all at once so that the enemy doesn't kill you one at a time. If you're sailing solo... Don't complain, it's your fault.

  • @iambenderfearme So if I'm sailing solo, its my fault someone killed me and then continues to keep spawn killing me? Also considering the person camping the spawn spot already has the advantage, i think it would even it up a bit. Coming back on the boat with a blunderbuss vs the EoR or switching to two guns would make a bit of difference getting your ship back.

  • Here's a thought - why not add the clothing, vanity, and tool chests to the Ferry as well? I bet respawning as an entirely different-looking pirate would throw the opposition through a loop! 😆

It would effectively be a take on reincarnation, and besides, who's to say that the dead can't look fabulous!?

  • @muzackmann Actually, even if you have crew mates and you get killed and spawn killed, it's still your fault. 1st, shouldn't have gotten boarded and killed. 2nd Should've scuttled. Also the person camping has the advantage because they took it and you let them.

  • I wasn't even aware of the scuttle feature. Like I said in my original post though, I knew I could've left, but I wanted to try and play it out. It was me against six other pirates. I knew I wasn't going to be the victor, but my whole idea was that if I could've changed weapons that maybe I would've had a chance to kill one or two and get my ship outta there.

  • @iambenderfearme "If you're sailing solo... Don't complain, it's your fault." Maybe some people just enjoy the game and don't want to play with randoms who keep messing their stuff up? You should be able to play any game solo. Everytime I try to join with a random crew, either someone grabs one of my barrels and blows my ship up. Or I'm doing a voyage and they just take the boat and sail somewhere else. Or join and go AFK. You're the kind of person who makes this game not as much fun for people trying to play solo.

  • @unbatedarc35121 Dude, it's a team game. If you get robbed and sunk while playing solo, it is partly your fault, you chose to play a team based game by yourself. I just get tired of seeing solo players posting about how they got sunk or spawn camped and instead of thinking "maybe I should find some teammates", they want systems in the game itself to be changed. It's kind of like going 1v4 in basketball and then complaining about the hoop's height when you lose.

  • @iambenderfearme Ya, but those same people generally complain about lots of things and not just getting sunk. I bet they do the same things getting taken down in other multiplayer games. I hold myself responsible for losing a fight, but not for being griefed. I agree that there shouldn't be a question of balance when its simply they got taken down by a better player, however it does merit looking other options to combat spawn camping other than scuttling.
