Why people are complaining about pvp in a pvp game?

  • I noticed several players complaining about sea of thieves saying that sot is full of player that wants to kill steal and sink ships...
Thatx a pirate game pvp is the best part of thr game thats whats makes us fell somekind of emotion while playing by the way its a cooperative game. The pirate legend song says. We shall sail togheter. So i see no reason to go solo on the seas im sure you will be stalked to death until sink and die. After that you will leave the game and say that the game sucks.
    Th
Hundreds times i solo players getting crushed and i dont get it why they play solo

  • I don't get it either. Sure, it's annoying to lose treasure when attacked by another ship but that forces you to think ahead and plan your strategy. The thrill of losing eveything is what's makes it extra rewarding when you get to an outpost.

  • I'm not so much annoyed about PvP as I am about people who refuse to move on when they kill someone and have clearly won the battle. Instead they just kill the same person again and again ad infinitum until they quit. That's not playing a pirate game. That's just being a psychopath.

  • @erison-kyle Although PvP is an alternative play-style of the game it is not "a PvP game" as stated in the thread title.

The PvP aspect does bring a certain thrill factor to an otherwise mundane game and perhaps too many try the game as a solo sloopist not realizing that it's the hardest mode of difficulty.

As @R4bbi-the-Shark pointed out, to kill or sink a crew and move on is fine but to spawn camp is an entirely different kettle of fish.

  • @erison-kyle because playing solo and losing everything constantly (only if youre bad) is still better than playing with random squeakers and trolls.
I mainly play solo and I dont have a complaint about the PVP specifically. My complaint would be about the large number of people who play specifically to run around like the genetic hybrid dinosour in that horrible new jurassic world movie. They care not for their own survival they just want to kill and ruin everyones day.

  • Playing solo is the hard mode,... i like it ;)

  • @erison-kyle Hi, i agree with you on that...going on solo merchant/adventurer missions is very hard....but i was thinking about the same last week and i come up with a "solution" to improve every player experience (solo and crew) while keeping the "you are at sea so it is and should be Dangerous" basic sentence. What if The reapers Mark is just a test for a "temporary and mandatory Wanted Pirate title" ?
I've gathered and explaind my suggestion on this feedback post.
what you think about this ?

  • SoT isn't a PvP game.
PUBG and Fortnite are PvP games if that's all you are looking for!

Played both pubg and fortnite. When sot makes a server specific for Pvp I'll be there. But for now I'll fight/pvp everyone I see in game. If u get sunk by me and I happen to run across u again. I'll sink you again. If you don't like it hop servers.

  • most people play solo because none of their friends are online, their friends have quit sailing the sea, and also that the open crew matchmaking system matches you with complete noobs 99% of the time.

I'm not complaining about combat, just clearing up why some people play solo.

  • Because crews that kill and sink you just for the sake of it without even being interested in stealing your loot annoy me to no end.

I have no problem with being robbed, as those encounters are really thrilling and depending on how you act, they might let you go with only a blue eye. But when you get killed and your ship blown to smithereens despite surrendering immediately without resisting?

I'm pretty sure that's not PvP, but just being a jerk to p**s players off. And whatever you gain by killing someone who has just logged in, remains a mystery to me.

  • also, Sea of Thieves itself is not a PvP game, but it is rather a S.W.A.G. (Shared World Adventure Game) in which the possibilities are limitless. If you want, you can be the saltiest sea dog to ever set sail, or you can be the most friendly pirate the world has ever seen. and changing these up can train you in the art of PvP or let you make new friends and sailing buddies.
I'm am not complaining about PvP, it is still one of my favorite things to do in the game, and people should stop complaining about it.

  • @erison-kyle LOL, I normally do not post anything about Look at me, I can sink any ship, out play any player doing forts, out sail the best of the best, blah blah blah.
But, I did reach legend last week and I really wanted to post and celebrate with the SOT board but decided not to. Maybe because I am one of those fake legends.
Yes, I would love to have a Fake legend tag....You know the people who didn't do any forts, chased chickens, fed pigs all of your bananas, and had to dive into the ocean countless times to wash the spit out of my eyes because of those rootn tootn rotton snake's.
I spent days helping and hunting Meg, doing the thrones, smashing statues, playing bumper boats with skellies and ducking cursed cannon balls.
So if having a hell of a great time while working my way to legend if considered a fake legend and doing the first two Athena's voyages SOLO, Yes, It took around six hours the first time and I just finished the second one and it took about five hours or maybe just a little less. It is doable, not because I am a great player or anything.......I just keep using my spotting scope at all times.

Use your spotting scope while on the island, on the boat, swimming in the water, always. And run if you even think that ship in the far distance is even looking like its trying to work its way toward you.
Sorry, long day long rant but I'm happy now.

  • What makes you think this is a "PvP Game"?

The Rare team at EGX was asked about their favorite piece of equipment in Sea of Thieves.

    Mike Chapman said:

I would... probably say the concertina. I think it represents what Sea of Thieves is, in a nutshell.
The concertina was a mechanic we implemented very early on. It was in our early E3 demos. And it was, I guess, at the time, a symbol of how Sea of Thieves was different.
At the time... we didn't have blunderbusses or pistols. We just had people boarding other ships and playing music together.
The concertina is just that great symbol of Sea of Thieves: of bringing people together: the music harmonising when they play together in that pirate band.
I still love it, to this day.

Others on the panel mentioned Grog, the Speaking Trumpet, and Chests. Weapons were only mentioned by Joe Neate in the context of the serendipitous discovery of the "sword lunge" as a way of moving fast across the water, and effecting a "dolphin dive".

No one talked about killing people, sinking ships, or powder kegs.

Perhaps, from the very start, it was meant to be Sea of Friends!

lol. Your approach to the game along with flexing your muscles and stroking your ego still doesn't make SoT a PvP game. The best times I've had in the game involved no PvP at all.
It's a "SWAG" with both PvP and PvE elements.

Not flexing my muscles or stroking my ego. Just informing you how I play the game.

  • yes, lets just rename it "sea of pirates who dont like to steal treasure from other crews and want to avoid any danger what so ever whilst sailing"

  • @surveyorpete "sea of friends" a game like cookie clicker where you just grind money, get bored and then forget about the game....

  • @erison-kyle I solo. Almost exclusively. I'll sometimes do the random open crew hop in my Sailor noob outfit just to mess with people in a friendly way. (Dropping Athena's quest in a crew of lvl20 and below, slaughtering a ship of PL's so the noob crew can get away and sell, ect...) Part of the fun when I solo, for me that is, is using all that I know to not be boarded and sunk. I enjoy using my sailing skill to keep just out of reach of the hungry pirates, all the while turning in what I have on me. Making them rage quit because they want to be murder-hobos and I won't let them makes my night. I guess it's all about how you "play" the game.

  • @surveyorpete yeah but they did put cannonballs and sink ships mechanics in the game

  • @erison-kyle

yeah but they did put cannonballs and sink ships mechanics in the game

... and the speaking trumpet and alliance flags.

But, yeah, they did add cannonballs and stuff; so clearly Mike Chapman was wrong when he said "The concertina is just that great symbol of Sea of Thieves: of bringing people together..."

He, and the other members of the Rare team, obviously do not understand what this game is about.

I have never bothered to lose treasures no matter how big they are, I know that with that I only buy Skins, but I try to let the game tell me what to do together with my friends.

  • Actually I solo all the time, and although it adds a tenseness to the game, I don’t mind it. In fact I tend to enjoy being attacked, it has rendered some amusing results.
