So i was doing a solo voyage, and all of a sudden i hear this weird noise. I look around and see this thing in the water! It was blue and had these green shiny things on it. It looked like some kind of statue of a weird sea monster. It was about as big as me. I inspected it closer and saw that it hurts you when you go near it, and you can shoot it but it didnt really do anything after i shot it a few times. I found this at shark bair cove if thats important. Does anyone know what this is? Thanks.

If you press start and open up your Bilge Rats reputation page it shows you all the little event commendations you can unlock.
If you unlock them during the actual events you get doubloons that you can spend on limited time outfits and weapons, or you can spend the doubloons on gold, or instant level ups in a faction.
Outside of events you unlock them and unlock titles and whatnot.
The next set of event commendations will be on the 27th when Forsaken Shores comes out, and will probably last 3 weeks, so you'll be able to buy some special event cosmetics with the doubloons you get then most likely
@tre-oni @BeanMarioCow Also worthy to note that going forward, commendations from future events will still reward doubloons even after the event ends. This does not apply to events that have already transpired though so you won't be able to get the doubloons from the Sunken Curse event commendations.
@xcoqsone-nl you mean commendations, and yes, you can still get them, but you won't get any rewards, although I believe Rare is going to bring back doubloon rewards for the old commendations, but i'm not sure.

I read this in the preview panel and thought: It sounds like a Pirate Legend in full uniform! :-)

Blue statues = easily destroyed
Green statues = harder to destroy
Red statues = hardest to destroyThey also heal themselves, so you have to keep the damage coming.
Pro Tip:
By inching up to them carefully, you can find a spot where you can hit it with your sword and not take damage. This lets you take out blue and green statues, no problem. You can even destroy red ones solo, if they're out of the water and you have 10 minutes or so to spare.@beanmariocow said in What is this?:

Haha, no worries at all, but I just love the idea of that being someone's experience with these statues.
It was a somewhat strange event, at first, but I was surprised to find I enjoyed that statue hunt (while enjoying exploring the world a bit, and/or doing voyages).
I hope they bring these statues back into play for some reason... maybe when a merfolk update comes our way.
@pdt-mindstream I really enjoyed the cursed mermaid event while it was going. It was fun searching for them and exploring the underwater areas a bit, and they were fairly satisfying to destroy. But after finishing off that last mermaid, I found them simply annoying. Now I tend to kill them just to put an end to that incessant, haunting music. I do wish they'd built in some purpose for destroying them beyond the actual event. Maybe they'll revisit them in the future.

You can still get the title.
I'd love to see an event with a faction of hostile mermaids that show up and start wrecking shop. The story missions would involve finding out why exactly, and would end something like this...
