Oars and Rowing

  • I was hoping that with the new row boats coming in the next update that perhaps in the future the Galleon will have Oars that come out of the 12 lower portholes of the ship which would help with the speed and manoeuvrability. Also having an oar in your inventory as a tool would be fantastic. You could use it to push other ships away if they get into a boarding stalemate and also you'd be able to push your ship out of areas where it would otherwise be stuck and have to respawn.
With regards to the Galleon having Oars, I would then recommend increasing the Galleon crew size to 6, therefore having 2 free sailors to man an oar each with the potential of sailors from other ships banding together on the galleon to man the other 10 oars. Personally I think the design of the galleon should be altered slightly so that it has less than 6 portholes on each side. I don't know what the stats would be but you'd almost expect the ship to be going at light speed with that many sailors aboard. I'd advise 8 total portholes, 4 on each side like with the cannons. Apart from it being an advantageous way to pursue enemy vessels, it would be a good way for different crews to team up on the same ship as this give more activities to a visiting crew. (I feel like sometimes there are not nearly enough jobs for all the people on a ship when 2 crews band together)
As a risk involved with joining a different ship than your own could be you spawn on your original ship if you die. This would prevent the problem of having an overpowered large crew vs a smaller crew.
The cooperation involved with rowing in sync would be good to get crews to work together also. Maybe have a special tune to play by a drummer to set the pace.
I think to keep the balance a different ship should be added to the fleet to fill the gap between the new Galleon and the Brig. Something like a Frigate.
The brig and the Sloop are too small for that kind of thing I think and I like where they stand at them moment.

  • Ships are already very fast. Not sure how an oar system for them would be needed or implemented. I however want one thing out of the oars. I wanna bash sharks with then as they attack my rowboat. Give me that and the rowboat experience will be complete. Edit: Maybe to get upwind. Oh and they're gun ports by the way not portholes. Fake gun ports for... Some reason. You don't even see them on the interior. Seriously Rare can we make the gun ports on the galleon simple interactive objects we can open and close? And whatever comes after that is fine. Be it oars or just more cannons to shoot.

  • @celestron90 I did always think ships were too fast. So, slow them down and then add this haha. Thanks for the response

  • @fuffud stopped reading after the suggestion for 6 people on a galleon...just no
