Barrel 2.0 - Hold to Open

  • I understand some of this may need more refactoring and maybe doesn't agree with the future plans but I wanted to put what I thought was a clean and scalable solution to inventory issues. I want to keep this post short so will just touch on some key points. Here is link to Imgur where you can find all 10 mockups along with more detailed description for those interested. Full Details

    Hold to Open

Hold to Open. Prevents those accidental opens and with a press of X you get similar action to pre-update which should help remove some of the frustration from combat that was added with the 2.0 changes. Pressing X (or Y on Boat Resource Barrels) offers a take/store all option which would be limited by your inventory capacity and type of resource but bring back quicker access to resources in a pinch.

    Contextual Item Cycling

Contextual Item Cycling. Menu button (Xbox) now allows a player to cycle through each "like" item in their inventory without having to access the full or quick (radial dial) inventory a second time. This could work for maps, cannon balls, musical instruments or food. (depending how you feel about stripping all customizable buttons from Xbox players the L/R D-Pad could also be used to cycle forward/backward instead of Menu button.)

    Barrel ReBalance

Barrel Rebalance. Ship's Resource Barrels used to hold 100 items. Following 2.0 they now hold an insane 1000+ items so I propose to limit the barrel stacks to 10 pieces. With 12 slots this means barrels will return to holding a more balanced 120 max.

    Radial Menu Customization

Full Radial Menu Customization. Allow players to customize what items they want and order on both the RB and LB radial menus. With all 16 spaces available for customization, along with contextual item cycling, the "X - More" option could be eliminated from these radial dials. This would allow for the X button to be repurposed on both these radial menus to open into the full inventory screen freeing up the Menu button.
