I was under the impression when I first started playing that there would be some sort of commendations for pvp (Sinking ships, Killing other Pirates, Stealing loot). You could even go further to the point of making a new voyage type like sink a ship, steal a chest, kill a crew. I think it would make the game a little more interesting. making the alliances more controversial for chance of betrayl. Maybe new guns, swords, or ship hull and sails after sinking say 50 ships. Or a new outfit all to show that your not one to mess with on the seas.

Your assumptions are incorrect. Despite the fact that every player is a criminal that can kill you at anytime, there is no incentive to do so. No kill count, KDR, ships sunk, awesome titles, or fear inducing pirate attire.
Absolutely no reward for killing players.
Everything Rare puts into the game is designed to bring players together, not separate players.
Since everyone has access to the same gear, the only difference between players is your knowledge of the game.Welcome to SoT.
@barnabas-seadog You are a downer. The game is about Pirates. Pirates are supposed to be “notorious” and “infamous.” This is a Sea of THIEVES. There should be accommodations for killing people, sinking ships, and looting treasure. Stop it with the soft s**t dude. They should change the name of the game to Sea of Voyagers who do nothing but mindless voyages all day.

Pvp for the fight, not the loot or notoriety. If you are pvping for any else other than the fight you're doing it wrong.
I find it interesting that there are assumptions that the game is like other PvP games - CoD, Overwatch, etc - where your score IS (with some game mode exceptions) your kill count.
Rather, in SoT your kill count has nothing to do with the game itself or your 'score'. PvP isn't even something that is guaranteed to happen - unlike a match in Overwatch, where PvP IS the game.
Instead, SoT contains PvP - maybe. If you play with people who want to kill you, or you want to kill other people. But you might go an entire session without encountering it. PvP is a possible thing that may happen in the game on the way to achieving what you want in the game.
There's a sort of philosophical question here... in a game like SoT where PvP is an option but not required... if a PvPer enters the server does the game immediately become a PvP match?
Much like a tree falling in a wood... if there is a PvPer in SoT but no one to fight... is the game even PvP?
@treefittymonsta I completely agree I was just under the impression there would be like titles or commendations for certain aspects of pvp since it is a pirate game
It is very much unpleasant to do a Tall Tales mission, have no loot on you, for 3 hours... only to be sunk by PvPers for no reason other than to be mean. I get stealing a loot laden ship, but where is the spirit of adventure? Incentivising PvP will make a few bloodthirsty happy, but alienate the rest.
Visit The Arena, a mode of play where your kills are recorded.
Adventure mode however is a mixture of all styles of play and whilst killing players and sinking ships is always on the table, it is not solely what the game is about. And there are no rewards for it because Rare have always favoured crews interacting with each other rather than just mindlessly killing one another.
Ahoy maties!
