Gunpowder Batteries on Ships

  • I noticed how everyone places their gunpowder kegs up in the crows nest - what if we had a cannon ball proof room or battery on the ships where we could store them instead? This room can be accessed by anyone.

    I don't think this is how the crows nests were meant to be used - being makeshift storage batteries.

    For instance the brig area on a sloop - pretty pointless area at the moment - can be replaced with a bombproof room;

    2nd deck on a galleon could have a room for the kegs;

    Removing some of the random clutter on a brig to make room for a gunpowder battery which is immune to incoming cannon fire and other kegs but not immune to being shot from the inside with a handgun.

    What do you guys think?

  • This would be perfect but why not store it up there I like jumping of it light in the air land on their ship with out having to go under my deck but that's not for every one its a good idea.

  • This would honestly add so much to the game. On the topic of the crow's nest, I would love to see it more utilized as a platform for snipers and lookouts. In essence i would like the crow's nest to have no ship sway just as the yard arm's don't at the moment.

  • This would be a nice change actually. There's alot of clutter on the Sloop, Brigantine, and Galleon already, so adding something that would be an actual usable space would be nice.

    I'm not sure how much you could really fit in a Sloop though, since it already has alot of space taken up by actual useful things. Unless they added a few big shelves to have your clothes, vanity, snd equipment sitting on instead of on the floor, there's very little space left.

    The Brigantine is super cluttered below deck, so I'd be fine with them making space for the Gunpowder Battery.

    Tge Galleon has a whole extra floor of wasted space. No better place to put this feature than down there honestly.

  • @sir-saltybeard this is an interesting idea. Needs to be expanded on thou.

  • I would put my chickens in there.

  • I would still store most of the kegs up there because it's the best platform to launch drive by keg moves, and it would still be safer from boarders.

    The day the mast can get damaged by kegs up there will be the day I will look for a new storage space.

  • Its a good idea, it has the advantage of being able to safely store kegs away from cannonfire and lightning strikes, but also from a boarding perspective, you wont have to go up to the crows nest to steal one then go down in the belly of an enemy ship, just have to hope they have been stockpiling them in their battery.

    Could i also add a suggestion that if you were to let a gunpowder off on the outside of the hull near to where the battery is located and it is stocked with gunpowder, there would be more damage dealt.

  • Just to be a pedant, I think the word you want is a gunpowder magazine.

    A battery is a group of cannons.

  • How about a raft dragged behind the ship?😀 One crew member could surf the raft tossing barrels as needed. Sure enemies would blow it up but man itd be fun for a bit😀

  • @sir-saltybeard Totaly agreed ... add sails and mast damage also can fix that problem... im for a safe room accesible for every body ... enemy too... and mast and sails damage... like that it give a real challenge... and new gameplay...

  • How about just adding access to one of the empty barrels all over the ships now and just be allowed to store them safely in an empty barrel like you do cannon balls, bananas and planks? So long as they are stored in these barrels they are safe from destruction but can still be accessed by your crew, allies or clever enemies.
    I agree, I have always thought the misuse of the crows nest needed to be evaluated. Honestly, the fact that lightning never seems to miss the gunpowder is pretty funny.

    Great suggestion.
