Faction Mastery - Added Benefit

  • Other than receiving slightly better voyages the higher your reputation is, there isn't really a benefit to having the individual factions reach level 50 except for when you get all three of them and you become a Pirate Legend. I am suggesting a couple additions that would make use of the individual mastery.

Master Gold Hoarder: Encrypted Maps - Special maps that only a master gold hoarder can view and reveal its secrets. In the end, these aren't protected by lowely skeletons, but an entire crew and possibly their captain!

As a master of the gold hoarders, you have dug up treasure from every corner of the Sea of Thieves. Thoughout your travels you have stumbled upon ruined villages, ancient tombs and had mystic encounters, all of which has increased your knowledge of ancient texts and hyrogliphs. These experiences and ultimately the knowledge earned allows you to decypher maps that cannot be read by those who have not reached rank Master Gold Hoarder.

Master of the Order: Talking Skulls - Instead of glowing green, a skull that glows yellow (or another color) can be encountered and only a master of the order can listen to its whispers and decypher its secrets. These secrets would yield a map of the island where the skull was found!

As a master of the order, you have given your body and soul to the order by battling legions of skeletons. Since the beginning of your mystic journey, you have heard soft sounds eminating from the skulls of the vanquished captains. However, as time passed and your experience in the arts grew, those soft sounds turn into whispers. These whispers often divulge the location of buried treasure but go unnoticed by those who have not reached the title of Master of the Order.

Master Merchant: Smooth Talker - You are able to get an extra percentage (coin, not rep) for items turned in (any faction) due to your connections within the Merchant Alliance.

As a master merchant, you have bartered with everyone from The Ancient Isles, Wilds, and through to the Shores of Plenty. Working your way up from a lowely chicken chaser to a pervayor of fine goods, your reputation preceeds you wherever you go. The knowledge of the seas and the fauna of the lands fetches you a higher percentage than those who have yet to achieve the position of Master Merchant.

These are fairly rough, but I think the point comes across. The different benefits spread to the other factions and require level 50 for that specific faction, but are not only obtainable by a Master per se except for the Master Merchant.

Master Gold Hoarder: A level 50 Gold Hoarder may recieve these encrypted maps from a standard voyage pickup, but anyone below may stumble upon then via books or bottles and would require a Master to look at the map to decypher it.

Master of the Order: A skull glowing yellow and can found randomly by anyone, or from a slain skeleton as normal and turned in without a second thought. However, a Master of the Order can pull the secrets out of the skull before turning it in.

Of course I don't think these should chain together either. You cannot use an encrypted map to get a chest which may have a captain spawn, then get a skull which glows yellow and provides a map when a Master of the Order pulls the secrets from it.

    Thoughts?

EDIT: Adding additional suggestions here to keep them near the top.

Adding this to the Master of the Order could be used for Skeleton Ships. You take out a Skeleton Leader (Non-Captain) and their skull whispers the location of another member of its crew. After a few island hops and extracting the information from the skeleton crews, you are given the location of their ship which would have their captain and remaining crew. But this may limit it to having a Master of the Order on your crew...

Perhaps have these perks start at level 40 and scale up as you get to level 50.

Very nice idea, I like it a lot.

Why not? Sounds like an awesome legendary voyage. I kinda hate how legendary voyages are just more of the same old voyages. This could be a welcome addition.

  • @nebenkuh Thanks!

I have avoided Athena missions until I hit legend, but I have heard they are quite lengthy.

I didn't think much about these being utilized by legends directly, but you are right, this would be a good addition for them as well! The goal was to add something for those with on faction maxed that would give them a bit more variety and the potential to help with the remaining factions before legend.

  • I am not sure how they plan to release the Skeleton Ships into the wild, but I prefer they not be random like the Kraken or the Megaladon and have some other way of being triggered. Preferably through the OOS in some way, whether it be through the system in my original post, or as a rare additional chapter in a chain (Chapter 1, Chapter 2, ..., Final Chapter - The Defeat the Cursed Ship!) to prevent farming the ships.

Sounds awesome. They should have a chance of carrying athenas chests too!

  • @archangel-timmy I love it! With just one exception. These should be quests that have to be purchased from the Mysterious Stranger, but I don't think they should be able to be found by others even if they can't decipher it. Keep it to something only level 50s can get. As of now, many Pirate Legends are upset that there is nothing in the game that only they can earn, since even non PLs can get Athena rep. This would be great for that. :)

P.S. I love the descriptions you came up with for each faction!

  • @archangel-timmy love the descriptions and idea, but the only problem I have with it is by the time you reach mastery on the companies you probably don't want to ever do the voyages ever again.

I only do them now if someone from my crew needs the xp.

But it would be cool if the Athena's voyages was something like this vs the current "do these 8 voyages that you've done a few hundred of times before". And to get what you really want, go and do the final X marks the spot map.

  • I really like this idea. Well conceived.

I just hit legend. Had avoided any info/spoilers about being legend.. tried my first Athena's and was disappointed to see the same old quests as prior to legend. yah the skellies take a few more hits but meh ..

We did all the quests and the even the chest of legends quest was the same old map with an x. Meh.... Hopefully they mix it up a bit in the future. Fight a boss sklly or something to get the chest.

  • @MortarChelle
Pirate Legends definitely need more to do, but I was leaning more towards giving everyone an extra goal with each faction. Once they've reached a specific mastery, it would give them that little bit extra to make the journey more worth while and also carry it into legendary status.

I am not opposed to the contracts and maps being made available only to those who are a Master of the Order or a Master Gold Hoarder, I was just thinking this could perhaps invoke more interactions between players. Anyone who stumbles upon the mysterious skulls or encrypted map would need to seek out a master in order to progress with it. Something more than people begging for an Athenas voyage at least :)

    @Riareth
Once you hit Pirate Legend and Athena 10, their isn't much other than PVP and helping friends for sure. However, this little addition could encourage a PL or even those a mastery in 1 or 2 factions to interact with others a bit by being able to help with something those of a lower level cannot do other than popping in and dropping an athena.

    @KnightX13
    Thank you :)

  • @archangel-timmy Sounds great :) Hopefully something like this could be implemented!

  • @treefittymonsta
I just hit Legend yesterday and purchased a a couple Athena voyages. Honestly, I am not looking forward to the grind, but I enjoy the game more than enough to subject myself to it :)

  • @archangel-timmy
Nice idea. I like it. At this point I would take almost any new content as a win. It feels like the game is missing half of the content it should for normal players and 90% of the content for PL.

  • @archangel-timmy Are you suggesting that instead of posts on LFG of "Please drop me an Athena or open the hideout" you'd get posts of "Looking for a Master of Order to read yellow skull".

Or go to random ships asking for help with it, hopping they just didn't steal it :)

  • @riareth
You would get a little of both :)

Personally I would hop into a server and help out a crew with a skull or a map vs dropping an Athena and dropping out. You get a little more out of it.

Asking in game would definitely be at your own risk, but you do meet some kind hearted pirates as well as the cut-throats. This is where a potential alliance could be formed :)

Yah... I wish u could level Athena's thru pvp. 60% of my levelling was stuff I stole thru Pvp.

  • @archangel-timmy Quite a few Athena drop requests are with an implicit offer to stay and help if you want. Most of the time I bow out.

As for your idea, maybe it would be good at level 40, call it journeyman (journewperson?). So your last 10 levels to legend change a bit.

  • @riareth Level 40 is probably a good idea, as those last 10 levels were the worst part of the grind and it would give people more time to experience the added benefit. It could start at 40 and somehow scale up as you get closer to Master status.
