New update broke the game with OBS

  • Hi Rare,

i got a little problem with the game latest update. I was always able to stream the game at 720p 60 fps before this update and everything was working fine, no frame drop or stutter. Since the new cursed update, the game is stuttering SO much it's not playable at all.

    I tried multiple things :

    • Dropping in-game settings and OBS settings.
    • Reinstalling the game
    • Reinstalling Streamlabs OBS
    • Reinstalling Nvidia drivers

Nothing works. All my other games works fine while streaming, CPU intensive games like No Man's Sky works fine. Please help me with this or update the game to correct the problem. I loved streaming this game but right now I can't at all.

  • Have you tried using the standard non-SL version of OBS? I know SL OBS can be a little bit more hungry on resources, so it's worth a shot.

  • I run OBS also, and I don't have any troubles with it. Have you tried disabling the Xbox/Windows Gamebar? It can be a resource hog it's self.

Oh yeah, this too... especially the DVR capture

And turn off Nvidia Shadowplay too, if that's enabled

  • @realstyli I tried using Nvidia experience recording and that worked fine. I check and when i record with obs i still have about 35 to 50% CPU usage left so it should not be the limited factor here...

  • @realstyli I just disabled XBOX DVR and NVIDIA Shadowplay. Problem is still the same. I'll try the normal OBS and see if the problem persist.

  • For anyone wondering, I found the culprit.
Sea of thieves is a multi-core game but it mainly uses the 4 first CPU's. It's seems to REALLY like using only the core 0 and 1 at about 40 to 90% and the others are only at 30-40% stable. So what I did is put in the affinity tab only the CPU 4 to 7 for OBS and I kept all cores for SoT. Now it works fine.

It's probably a change that happened with the new update because like I was saying, before this new update, I did not need to do any modification and the game was running fine while streaming.
