Remove loot from AI ships until...

  • after the intro campaign is done.

This is supposed to be a community event, not an elaborate version of forts where someone swoops in near the end and kills everyone so that they can claim the loot for themselves and, not only rob others of loot gain, but rob them of community event achievements - that take a very long time to earn. Just saw this happen on a popular SoT YouTuber’s livestream. I thought the aim was to bring the community together to fight the skellie scourge and save the regions from being overtaken?

So, I’d recommend removing loot from the ships until after the event is done. Keep the ability to earn doobloons and achievements, so that there will be little reason to waste hours of someone else’s time during a community event.

No way. This game is called sea of thieves. The title says it all.

  • @treefittymonsta It’s a community event intended to bring ships together for achievements and to defend the world from Warsmith. Yes, it’s called Sea of Thieves, but there’s a war going on and folks are supposed to be allying to win. As I said, the loot just makes this another version of the fort... but this time, you not only lose the loot/rep (which is the theft part), you can lose the achievement and access to the exclusive, time limited gear when someone decides to swoop in and kill you before the final wave is complete. That’s just a jerk move. Removing loot until after the intro campaign is done solves that problem.

  • I agree, I get it ... The point of the game is you have risks , but sometimes it's a lot of work with the waves against the cursed sails and Its already difficult enough getting sunk or dancing up a storm of barfing when you become cursed. We really don't need people to take us down at the end of the battle to steak what everyone has fought for, although if it was only one ship I give them lots of props if they took out more then one crew and stole the booty!! I thought perhaps it would had been an automatic loot and Doubloons added to your account. But.... Of course that's not how it works .. thanks for informing the community tho now we know to keep a weathered eye !!

  • Which YouTuber streamer? I'ma curious to watch the clip.

  • @treefittymonsta Naming and shaming is against the forum rules.

  • @m0ther0fall3vil It just doesn’t fit the lore of what’s going on in the world. We’re all supposed to be fighting to save the world from Warsmith. The event is supposed to bring crews together... not be like the skull forts x 10.

I’m the first to tell people who get robbed that it’s a pirate game, but this is different. There is time-limited exclusive gear... a lot of it. And it’s wrong in my opinion, to rob people of the opportunity to earn it - especially since items not an easy task. The loot is bringing out the absolute worst in some players - the intro campaign should really be a unified effort to get something done like THD campaign and not an elaborate version of the toxicity of forts.

  • I completely agree specially given the fact that the tasks of the cursed sails are in many ways more difficult to beat. Even with x amount of ships helping. We try and keep one person on board of the skelle ship two on our ship and one bouncing back and forth. We've been lucky so far with our alliances... But I'm afraid that it may come to a difficult journey if some jerks come along. The loot really hasn't even been that good for people to come around kill everyone and take it that seems like a lot of work plus I believe they do not get as much gold out of the alliance. So, I believe it's not even worth it to them and double not worth it to the people it's happening to. At least the skull fort is easy enough and you can always head back to it for a fair fight to get your booty back. I full heartedly agree with you I also really believe they need to make it so that you can't kill your fellow allies. I believe I wasn't the only one hoping for this

  • @m0ther0fall3vil With regard to being able to kill allies, it should be that way - it’s supposed to be an uneasy alliance and it also provides a tactic for those defending themselves against an alliance - create crossfire. I hope they don’t make super crews.

And, it really isn’t the loot grabbing that bothers me, it’s the fact that time-limited exclusive gear, and time-limited doobloons are at stake in a “community event” and some jerk could rob you of that. You only get a week to complete some of these battles... next week, the campaign shifts and the doobloons you could earn this week are no longer available.

Add loot to the AI ships when the event is done.

  • I enjoyed the loot. I wasn't expecting anything really. Then I was pleasantly surprised after we fought the skeleton crew to find several chests beneath the waves. No idea how much we earned as I was busy having a blast.

Meg was a bit of a challenge in the middle of it all, but after one evening of play with the new release, I don't think I'd change anything. It's challenging and it should be.

  • @gatorwocky I had a blast as well but I didn't have the bad luck some other players are experiencing.. well except for on the second go at the skele ships it'd glitched out and we couldn't finish on the last wave. I agree the meg made it that more intense lol. I strongly believe the only thing that should be changed is not being able to kill your alliance. Like honestly it just got a bit frustrating because some people were accidentally taking jabs at others lol. Like oh you're almost dead !? Well accidentally taste my steel 😂 . It was fun none the less and I did expect loot only bc I'd read about the cursed sails before hand. but I didn't expect them to make it that people can kick you from the alliance and not allow you to get any Doubloons or gold or achievements ... Like I said we haven't experienced that.. and If we do run upon jerks as such we will be the annoying crew coming back for revenge for salty-ness 😂. We had fun even with the miss hap of the glitch and we got lucky at the end because we spotted another battle and made it on time and they were nice enough not to kick us from the alliance... They may not of known that they can tho... But one was complaining that they'd been there fighting more of the waves then us and believed they should get more then us lol.... I was like at least you guys didn't glitch and lose evverryytthiinnggg lol. I do think it's cool how you stay in the alliance and sail together to the out post and everyone gets the loot. We ran into a lot of cool people just within yesterday of playing. Although one crew was completely freaking out during the waves it made it a little more intense 😂 and pretty hilarious to hear men screaming like girls when the meg attacked during it 😂😂 it was fun for sure!

  • @phelim-mcnab "Naming and shaming is against the forum rules."

Unrelated to the request, he wants the name of the streamer, not a call-out against a forum user for some behaviour, post the name and don't try to dodge.

In regards you OP, the alliance system is in place now, form a strong fleet to take out the enemy skelleton ships and to have insurance you wont get bamboozled by pirates, pretty simple.

  • @urihamrayne The “naming and shaming” rule is not limited to forum members, but members of the community as a whole.

  • @phelim-mcnab you dodge the question one more time and I will take your post another direction. Post the name.

  • I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've seen the suggestion to actually remove loot from the game. Most seem to want it to be easier with a greater return.

Interesting. I disagree about removing the loot, but interesting.

  • @urihamrayne As for the rest of your post, it only takes one ship sinking one member of the alliance before the final wave is complete to rob someone of commendations and time-limited doobloons.

  • @gatorwocky I don’t want the loot permanently removed, I think it should be removed from the AI ships during the period where we’re all supposed to be banding together to beat Wanda. And, if there weren’t time-limited loot and doobloons locked behind completing a battle, I’d agree... but it’s robbing players of more than loot... during a “community event.”

  • @m0ther0fall3vil For sure! Friendly fire has to be off. That was the reasonable assumption. So annoyed it's not!

  • I want this because I actually wanted to put my head through a wall after seeing the AI ships and getting so excited to fight alongside this brigatine until they told me to leave and come back in 20 minutes because they wanted to do it by themselves and then proceeded to fire on me like come on?! This is seriously a big step back because the Hungering Deep was soooo much fun
with randoms I was always laughing and met some cool people but this is just lazy and really needs to be fixed ASAP.

  • @phelim-mcnab Nope, it is good as it is.
If they remove the loot, there is no incentive to do any of these encounters again. I only did 2 yesterday, after clearing the 3rd today I'm done for this week and half way to the legendary commendations.

  • waaaaaaaah the megalodon doesn't drop anything there is no incentive to do it more than once

waaaah the ships drop loot pls remove so I don't get robbed

Rare should just close these forums tbh.

  • @crimsonraziel There is absolutely an incentive to do them again... more doobloons and commendations... just as with the last couple community events.

  • @phelim-mcnab nah that is the point of the game..once again it is Sea Of Thieves people seem to forget they are not playing Barbie Wonderland.

  • @nebenkuh I wasn't robbed. I never said I was robbed. This isn't about being robbed of loot. If you're going to drop in an unconstructive post, it would help if you knew what you were saying.

  • @bran-the-ent
    Quoted from the OP:

"This is supposed to be a community event, not an elaborate version of forts where someone swoops in near the end and kills everyone so that they can claim the loot for themselves and, not only rob others of loot gain, but rob them of community event achievements - that take a very long time to earn. "

  • @averageheroz Again... (jeez, why can't people pay attention)... if we were simply talking about loot as the reward, I'd be right there with ya. I've long been the first to tell people... hey... pirate game, Sea of Thieves. But this really isn't about the theft of loot, it's about what the desire to steal loot is doing to a community event and access to time-limited doobloons, and, potentially, access to exclusive content.

  • @nebenkuh Yes... and context is important. If you've read the thread, I've very clearly stated that this is about the second half of that statement - hence the "not only" statement. I don't care if someone kills everyone after the last wave is complete in order to get the loot for themselves. It's a pirate game and alliances are meant to be broken. I'm referring to the tactic to kill players just before the final wave is complete in order to claim the loot for themselves and, basically, be jerks. If the loot wasn't in the equation, the event would actually be more about coming together as a community to defeat a common threat. Let the loot be the reason to tackle AI ships in the future. But, the community event has turned into a more elaborate version of forts where there is more at stake for players than simply the loot.

  • @bran-the-ent I am just saying with this being a pirate game..people are always going to be there to troll you and prevent you from doing your limited time stuff..you just have to push through it. It would be no fun and no challenge if we did not have people like that..

  • @averageheroz Huh? The AI ships are not enough of a challenge?

  • @bran-the-ent
If players want to get the loot for themselves, sinking the other ships BEFORE the last wave is the smart way to do it, because it guarantees that they won't get the loot. Even smarter would be to sink them during the last wave when they're busy fighting the skeleships.

If people just want to be jerks, loot being present or not won't make a difference either way.

  • @bran-the-ent said in Remove loot from AI ships until...:

@crimsonraziel There is absolutely an incentive to do them again... more doobloons and commendations... just as with the last couple community events.

No, that's the point. There are 3 battles every week you need to do for the commendations. So 9 in total. After doing 3 the legendary commendations are 50% done. That's it for this for this week, I'll get the other 50% on week 2. If I didn't overlook some commendation, you can easily get every commendation without fighting any skeleton ship crew twice.

  • @bran-the-ent My crew and I take them down just fine..we faught off another galleon, skeleton ships, and the meg at the same time..I enjoy the fight..but most people want it easy. An easy game is a boring game.

  • @nebenkuh EXACTLY. If you remove the loot from the intro campaign, there is no incentive to be a jerk and fewer people would do it. People could work together to vanquish Warsmith... and then we can all go back to robbing one another blind.

  • @averageheroz Nah, I don't want it easy. But, again, the lore behind this event is to battle the skellies, not one another while we're fighting the skellies - especially, when you've got more than simply loot on the line.

I'm fine with pirates being pirates... read my posts in the forums, I like things hard. But, during the community events there's a sense of sportsmanship and fair play that's in order because we aren't dealing with solely with loot - we're dealing with exclusive items that will be gone when the event is done. And, I feel that the inclusion of loot on the AI ships during the event has brought out the worst in some and players are denying others the potential to access things they will never be able to get again. That's vastly different from, and vastly worse than, simply ganking someone of chests and skulls.

I don't even blame the pirates for doing this, I think Rare has made a mistake by including loot on AI ships during the intro campaign. They should rectify it.

  • @crimsonraziel There are the other, open commendations - sink 50 AI ships, for example. You can't sink all the required AI crews on the various required ship types and with the varying sail types without repeating the battles. There will be reasons to repeat battles throughout the entire three weeks. I doubt you have found an entire alliance running the same sails in the battles you've done so far, yeah? That's not an easy task.
