The Future of Sunken Curse Changes and Content

  • I wanted this to be the first of a few threads, varying in comprehensiveness, regarding what I personally feel Sea of Thieves can benefit from having, beginning with Sunken Curse content after the event ends.

First, I would like to start with just how good the increased spawn rate of washed-up items and other random loot feels. This change really validates exploration-based playstyles, which I am fond of when I just want to play to unwind. If we could keep it, at least in a modified form when the event ends, I feel increased random loot is a major step towards alleviating a bit of the grind, and helps make the world feel a little more exciting and alive.

Secondly, I wanted to touch on the cursed Merfolk statues. These could be an interesting permanent addition to the world, combined with sunken treasure, albeit with a few tweaks. To start, I feel the radius of the "pain field" should scale with the "level" of the shrine. Sapphire shrines would have the smallest field, while Ruby shrines the largest. Besides the increased health pools, they don't feel genuinely more difficult, as much as they feel more tedious. Also, should they carry over after the event, I feel these shrines should spawn with sunken loot around them, like offerings. Naturally, you would need to brave the pain field of the shrine, the ocean depths, and sharks if you wish to steal some shine for yourself.

I hope we can find ways to refine these suggestions, and see them realized in some way in-game. Thanks to those who read, and winds be at your back.

EDIT: @Johnson-Carl Suggests possible loot that spawns around shrines should scale with the "level" of the shrine.

  • Yeah I'd hate to see these statues go to waste once the event is over, they need actual replayability once you complete all the commendations.

I could go over previous Bilge Rat adventures in another thread. It is a shame that those commendations don't at least reward one doubloon for completing them post-event.

  • @blam320 Well thrones would be farmed for doubloons and thus money if that were the case. With gunpowder skeletons I can only see the same outcome. The Sunken Curse offers the best opportunity for replayibility that hasn't been captured. They could literally be loot statues under the sea. Just decrease how often they spawn so it's not too common but still give some loot. Sapphires should give the least and Rubies the most.

Thrones would probably word differently from Gunpowder Skeletons or even the Shrines. As in once you get the commendation, you can't repeat it endlessly for infinite Doubloons. Shrines definitely should have loot around them, as I said above. Scaling with difficulty is a nice addition. Perhaps whenever you actually destroy the statue, you get a Doubloon reward?

  • @blam320 That could work as a small commendation I guess. The way commendations work now is quite similar to gunpowder skeletons, you can't just do it once.
