I thought this too, and posted about it in another thread.
Someone quickly pointed out to me, that if we could make custom flags,
there would be more

Unpopular opinion: A flag for the 4th of July? Isn't that a thing that only Americans can identify with? I think it is ridiculous that we have a rainbow flag in the world of pirates, but at least that is aimed to be for all players.

For a lot of players it is already rather unclear which flag stands for what intension.

Instead of wasting the developers time with suggestions about flag ideas, that aren't directly applicable to us all, can we just focus on flags that do matter?

I am thinking of:

• Bilge Rat Flag
• Skeleton Fort Hunter
• Flags that identify with the type of voyage you are on (OoS, GH, MA).
• More types of Jolly Rogers

You know, flags that really state your business, instead of the pride you want to impose on everybody else.

If they do this - then they should do it for all countries.

What if, instead, the merchants started selling firework rockets. Still very much a 4th of July staple, but not quite as "in your face" as the straight up "red, white, and blue". Have 'em cost, like, 10-20 gold a piece and let you carry ten or so at a time.

Using it shoots it straight up into the sky and explodes in a random color. Heck, they could add a commendation for getting together with another crew to put on a fireworks show.

Like i have always said. If you are OK with them bringing in something that represents a Real World topic/issue/controversy/.etc then you NEED to be OK with all other forms. Otherwise if you are only OK with 1 but not the others, you are by definition a hypocrite.

Nice black and white view you have there, no wonder you didn't like a colorful flag. The rainbow flag is about inclusion, for everyone playing the game. Nationality is about segregation into groups based on the country you come from.

Everyone is free to have their own opinion, calling hypocrisy because people don't treat different things in a similar matter is very short sighted in my opinion.

Luckily Rare doesn't NEED to be OK with anything but the stuff that they believe in/support/think fits the game. They don't have any obligation to honor any requests as this isn't a game dev democracy.

First let me correct you. Not once have I ever stated that i didn't like the rainbow flag. Feel free to go through all my posts regarding the issue.

Officially, my stance has been and will always be: Real world "items" don't have a place in fantasy games/movies/IP's whatever that are considered disconnected from THE REAL WORLD. (similar to seeing a Pepsi/Coke advertisement in Star Wars. It doesn't belong.)

The issue I have is they bring in to this fantasy game; "a world of its own" something from the Real world(which has represented/stood for "Pride' for the past 40+ years, during a real world recognized celebratory month, while pointing to Article 1 of the pirate code for justification. I am capable of reading between the lines.

Again for Clarification I don't mind that they added this is, but it makes for a slippery slope what what should/could be added later. Also yes, I fully understand this is their game and their choice to add/not add certain things. But I am of the opinion that if you are OK with them adding One real world "thing" into this fantasy game, then you should be OK with idea/possibility of them adding in other "real world things." If you are not? Then yes, I say you are being a hypocrite.

I feel like people also put "LBGTQ" persons into separate "GROUPS" also. So segregation still exists. If flying a "Pride" flag aligns with your opinion, why does someone else flying a country flag conflict with it? One can show pride in a country flag. I just don't understand why people are against the idea of bringing in other "real world things."

Why not bring in other religious symbols, Company logos, Country flags? I know I/this may seem ridiculous, but they (RARE) opened the door imo. So I say why not.

Personally I want to see a Japanese flag. Its simply fantastic.

lol, we're not still bitter about it ye know :) As a UK citizen living in the US I can assure ye there be no hard feelings o'er the war of independance/revolutionary war. At least none from this ole seadog.

@sshteeve I'm perfectly ok with that. If it was the flags that are not... good... for example the one with the swastika, and other terrorist flags then I don't think they should be added. But other flags for countries and religions is completely ok.

I would like to remind you that Swastika's aren't inherently "EVIL." Look up the history and you can see they have deep roots in Celtic/Eurasia history. And often represent Life/birth/luck/divinity etc. Now if it was designed like the more modern N**i propaganda flags, then Yes I would agree.
