We Need a Crew Change Notification

  • I'm not sure if this has been suggested or not, but here it is. I would like at least the option to turn on a notification that someone has joined or left the crew. It is frustrating if I am in an open crew talking to someone, wondering why they are not responding, only to find out later that the person has left the crew.

Or if you are in battle and someone decides to bail, it would be nice to know immediately when they leave.

This has been requested many times before & would be a great addition. It's frustrating when a player leaves/disconnects at a vital point & you don't realise for a while!

  • @logansdadtoo @Jonaldinho

Would absolutely love this addition. The other day a friend joined my game. I was on edge because I had just defeated a galleon solo, so I was still a bit full of adrenaline. I turn around, P**F, this random friend joined. Have to admit, I jumped my seat a little. Did not expect anyone to be there.

  • @jonaldinho

Definitely in agreement with this needing to be added to the game. Quality of life stuff right there - invaluable really.

  • @murkrage
'username' has joined/left your crew notification along with an audio cue would be great.
It always makes me jump when you are in a quiet crew & all of a sudden 'HELLLOOOO!' comes booming through the headphones when a new crewmate joins. Gets me everytime ;)

  • @logansdadtoo Oh man I get startled just thinking about it!

    Agreed!

  • I totally want this, as well. Mostly. There is a small part of me that enjoys trying to freak out @Ve111a by just joining on him.

l**o, I almost killed us and the boat one time with a barrel because of it.

  • @jonaldinho ive lost 3 chest of legends to disconnection. My crew mates had no idea i was no longer in game and cashed them in without me Q.Q

I know 3 isnt many but still, its the principle of the matter.

  • Anything that indicates it can be as complex as a discreet banner on the top left/right corner or as simple as a themed sound (like when you align the sails with the wind, or hit another ship with a cannonball) or hell there are 2 bells on the ship... 3 dings player joined, 1 ding player left.

  • @jonaldinho It's been suggested but I will continue to upvote these posts until it's implemented. Give us a notification just like when treasure is sold, message in a bottle is found, player is brigged. Put a picture of a pirate and a message saying "so and so has joined/left the crew."

Maybe give players the option to turn it on/off.

  • @Jonaldinho @xCALYPT0x

It's not the message that got added, but I am incredibly glad I won't be startled anymore when I just want to play solo!

    From the notes:

Joinable Status - Players can now make themselves unjoinable from the new Crew Management tab within Settings. This will mean that even friends can no longer join your session.

  • @hoppentosse There is? I have never heard it, not even when new players join when at an outpost.

  • @murkrage Darn, I was hoping to not read any of the patch notes until tonight when I can record my comments lol. That's a nice change though.

  • @xcalypt0x Terribly sorry mate haha. Where are you posting your recordings :)

  • @murkrage Youtube :) I have only done one so far and it was last patch which was teeny so I'm excited to see how this one goes.

  • @xcalypt0x Can you DM me a link :)?

  • @hoppentosse

I'll have to listen for it later on. Thanks for pointing it out.

  • agree, would be really helpfull

  • Agreed, it would be great to know when crewmates come and go. I can recall many a time where I've been chattering away, only to realise after far too long I've been talking to nowt but the breeze!

Hopefully it wasn't something I said...

A kind of fine, gentle brass fanfare: too-Doo. Short and very, very unobtrusive.

    shun the nonbeliever

    @kyros-in-exile harrumph...
Are you calling me a liar, you... [deckhandsnotice on: irony, blink, blink] Squirt? [deckhandsnotice off] This calls for a drinking duel in the tavern! *

    Aye, challenge accepted! 🍻

  • Yes, great idea and sounds simple. Although not using the same notification for when you sell stuff because that can have a looong lag time to catch up on.

Similar to above, someone on our crew disconnected when his broadband went down yesterday and we had no clue and sold a lot of the fort loot before we got a message from him.

Also if you have slots open and are away from your ship, it would be good to know that someone has joined, just to keep an eye on things in case you have a griefer or new player who sails away with your ship!

  • I would also like a notification system. My connection has a tendency to get dropped and when my loyal crew and I are sailing, I'm always the helmsman. They take care of the sails, the supplies, anchor, everything else. When I get dropped, they don't know it because they aren't always standing with me and see me disappear (also, I tend to lose party chat when it happens). Often the ship comes close to running aground on some rocks or an island because they are preparing to go ashore and don't realize that I got dropped.
